Listening to this for the first time - sounds very similar to the Vienna Concert album, part 2! Anyone else hear it? *Edit:* looks like this concert was recorded 11th July 1991, 2 days before the Vienna concert - clearly had this idea lurking in his brain somewhere around then!
You can hear someone coughing at about 10:50 or so. I remember him stopping too. He said something along the lines of "i don't cough for 45 minutes, you should be able to manage". As if it was deliberate. I felt sorry for the cougher as they'd paid their money and looked forward to the evening only to be berated by KJ.
Freaking amazing. You were right. Thanks! For some reason to me it seemed to have an almost Scottish tone to it. Very cool stuff and you were right about the end.
Oddly enough there is somewhat of ' A Doors' vībe Energy to this with the long duration of the extended underlying 'tonal center' with some tonal colorization of altered harmonic tones within, first 1w minutes. The rhythmic freeflowing unformulated spontaneity of the moment we are fortunate to have it captured as a recording. As a former 'University Classical Pianist dropout' although A.R.C.T. 1979 somewhat akin to Chick Corea, I often wonder if the New kids on the Block ( mainstream Classical Artist's can improvise anything at all ) matching this in musical 'existance, depth and existance. Thank you Keith for being an INNOVATOR and keeping music moving forward and evolving. I hope one day ( if it already isn't ) that your and my improvisations will become part of the Royal School Boards Diploma Curriculum so that we are not just stagnating with all the Old Masterpieces, as great as they are, I believe as musicians we have to keep moving forward and Creating ( as much as I love Chopins four Ballads ) and all the others, Scriabin etc. Eddie de Cazalet Keyboard Artist , improviser
