Favorite Keith Moon moment?
@Neil-pv8pw
@Neil-pv8pw Год назад
thats the right answer but his enternment side as wat sold him on me, over the yars i have detested playing with serious musos, they r no fun and no one cares about their stupid runs. music=harmony and rhythm in other words the drummer and vocalists singing lyrics harmony are the two most important and also the two egos likely to destroy a band. van halen bros versus dave lee roth, daltry and moon, and the list goes on, but the odd one is bonham and plant, they were great friends. dave grohl killed taylor hawkins etc

Drum moment: Cliché when he put explotion in the drums. Song: Both sides of the moon has several songs that you have to relisten. Story: He stayed over at Alice Cooper, and Coop's wife didn't know him, she came home and found Keith in maid's clothes cleaning the house ha ha ha. Person: I've read allot about his drugs of course, but who he really was is best portrayed in Pam's book imo.

Nicely done! I was 12 when he died, and reports pretty much just said "overdose". Poor guy was just trying to get control over his rampant alcoholism. He asked for MEDICAL help and was given a type of sedative that should only be given in the hospital. Damn.

Ever noticed?.... Keith Moon's drum solo on "Won't Get Fooled Again" is basically Ringo's drum solo on "The End".

Starkey is the closest you will get. Saw the who in 2013 and I thought this is the closest to moon I have ever heard. Turns out Keith Moon bought Ringo's kid his first drum set. I am sure you all know this.

one of the most insane drummers, I just love how intense he is, he was always so happy, he used to break snares with how hard he was going!

Well done! This is the best concise overview of his style that I've yet heard. And I completely agree with your take on his importance to the early sound of The Who.

Great video - never seen anyone nail that WGFA solo so perfectly. More, please! I could watch (and listen to) Keith Moon playing drums for the rest of my life. So much life and joy and magic in his playing. And I really love all the tiny things! That impossible fill at around 0:53 in Amazing Journey. How he f**ks up and goes to the tom break a measure early at 1:07 in Sensation but is so cool you don’t notice it until the 673rd time you’ve heard the song. His entire drum part on Song is Over, particularly the cymbal crashes during the solo and that beautiful circular swirl at the very end. That insane kick work starting at 4:15 in Bargain that just builds and builds. He managed to reinvent the drums on almost every song he played. I love Keith Moon and his drumming so, so much. Pure magic. What a legacy.

Moon liked to use the double bass as a flam slightly doubling what would normally be a single bass drum pedal hit. It's weird but effective and it's often overlooked in terms of folks trying to emulate his playing or play in his "style".

As much as i love Bonham, nobody teaches me musical aggression and as much emotional feeling as Moon. He was the best. Listen to Roger Daltrey talking about his genius as he played lead alongside the vocals, as was mentioned here by the host.

In the 00’s I knew a drummer who was obsessed with Moon, like he was his bastard child, but only angry about it when he played. For sure he brought Moon Power to his London art rock punk band called IKARA COLT. If you like it fast and raw - check them out!

He sure was crazy, when he used the double bass he would change to a left foot lead, but always lead with his right when he was using a single pedal.

Moonie and Charlie Watts are the inner and outer limits...every other virtuoso falls in between...love both of them, and none in-between...both of them cant be replaced, all in-between can be easily replaced nowadays, many talented kids out there.

Charlie was a jazz drummer and loved how he freezes the hi-hat stick ready to hit the snare ... no moonie was just organised chaos ... love them both ... then you had ginger, then Neil Peart ... all brilliant in there own ways ... and of course loads more ... wish I had skills like those guys ... cheers

I feel like most drummers either adopt a Keith Moon style of drumming, or a John Bonham style. For example, Tre Cool reminds me of Moon; Dave Grohl reminds me of Bonham. Another great video 🍻
@GiovanniBR1234
@GiovanniBR1234 Год назад
I agree. Usually Bonham is a groove (bluesy, jazzy) or heavier sound and Moon is the crazy fills, fast and loose, entertainer. They didn't create the sounds from scratch, but rather adapted to rock. And usually Ringo is the one that everyone copies, but nobody admits lol

Curious about your insights as to what pattern he's playing on the album version of Baba O'Riley under the violin solo. It sounds to me like it's a train beat that steadily grows into what eventually because a chaotic storm of 16th notes.

I can tell you as a bass player. I sent an audition video for the Quadrophenia tour about 12 years ago. I used the 1973 live from Toronto has the music tracks. These videos are still on my channel. Playing who music all my life and then playing in a live situation with Keith Moon was maddening it first. But after a couple of weeks I started to fall into it and it was quite the thrill indeed. And exhausting. It raised my playing endurance by four levels. It may sound funny, but I think John should have actually paid a little more attention to him.

another important factor was his nailing his bass drums to the stage, also you mention in harmony with roger, i disagree roger and keith werent good friends and its a common confluict drummer v vocalist and keith wud play over roger as to make him strain to be heard also his cotant 8s during fills on his bass drums really drove the band. many drummers doing fills dont play bass drums and hi hat wise he wudnt use them live as they were too quite but wud use them in the studio
@whofan1967
@whofan1967 Год назад
They were much closer after their early struggles and Roger has been trying to make a Moon movie since the 90's. Roger was one of the only remaining stable things in his life. Roger really admired his drumming and felt he was the missing piece, that the band just took off the moment he sat in the very first time.

great job showing us Keith’s style, but to go the extra distance you really should have blown up your drum kid with some improvised explosives. Nothing quite captures his innovative sound like a thunderous bass drum being blown to bits, sending cymbal shrapnel flying through the air at high speed.
