I started my musical journey in 1990. I was 4/5 years old listening to the radio, watching music videos and going through my parents' record collection. They had boxes of records which included everything from Stevie Wonder to Grover Washington to Rick James to Depeche Mode, etcetera. In 1990, I was sorta getting my feet wet and listening. In 1991, I started getting into cassettes and appreciating different genres. In 1992-1993, my obsession began. I was buying cassettes and CDs. In 1994-1995, it felt more natural and I bought everything that wasn't nailed down. In 1996-1997, I'm going to the flea market w/ my grandparents and I'm hearing reggae, salsa and just beautiful tropical music. In 1998, I'm back on my r&b kick, heavily. In 1999, I became jaded and burned out and I basically started listening to bubblegum pop, rock, etcetera. Now, as far as 'acknowledgements' are concerned...I mean... Look, if you're on record talking (singing) through auto-tune, Melodyne and reverb, do you really have to know Ms. Aretha Franklin records? If you're 20 years old and mumbling on a record, do you really have to know Big Daddy Kane and Rakim and them? Even w/ the internet right at these kids' fingertips, they still won't do the research. There's a reason to that. They're simply uninterested and only care about what's current. I'm speaking in majority terms. I'm a 20 year old auto-tune act, you _cain't_ expect me to know songs by Mr. James Ingram. You just _cain't._ These kids are taking it back to the mid 90's and that's about as far as they'll go. Y'all want these kids to acknowledge the legends every single time they step foot out on that stage. Unrealistic. Disrespect goes both ways. We say these kids _cain't_ sing and they say we're old and washed up. That's a fair exchange, if you ask me. This is they generation right now. We've had our fun. I've seen the best that music has to offer so I'm satisfied. I don't like lip-syncing at all. Whatever you done did on that record, you best do it live and on the spot. No silly excuses. One of the biggest selling female artists of the 90's almost never sounds as good as her records. There's a reason to that. Mr. Keith Sweat, stop making new music. Don't nobody care no more. Just sing the classics and keep it movin'. Folks my age (34) and older aren't necessarily interested in hearing new music from you. You release a new record and we go right back to _Twisted._ It happens every single time. Just sayin'...

All the artists in this generation always talking about hits i laugh because they not timeless,classics and impactful hits and albums they only got just for the moments,average,bad and just not good songs and albums at all

Hip hop definitely negatively affected rnb music. 1, because record labels were used to 1 type of black music, so they treated the genres as if they couldn't coexist, just because hip hop was booming and bringing in lots of money. So Keith and them stopped being supported and pomoted. Even more detrimental, hip hop created a narrative where black men constantly had to prove they were hard. Even though rnb singers existed long before rappers and no one questioned their manhood, rnb singers today are the only ppl who now have to let you know that they 'ain't soft' and that they're 'from the streets', in every interview. I'm surprised one of them didn't let us know that they were stapped during the interview. Smh.
