This is a rare demo of a song that Keith co-wrote that never made it on to any of his RCA-era albums. Suzy Bogguss had a hit with her version of the song which was a duet with Lee Greenwood. That version appears here on RU-vid with video from the soap "General Hospital."
Many thanks to my RU-vid friend Brian (BengalsRedsfan4life) for lighting a fire under me and for his continued support.

Although I understand that as human beings, we must understand all about the why and wherefores, but he was a MAN first, a HUMAN BEING second, AND AN ENTERTAINER, LAST.. he was a husband, a father, etc. He had a drinking problem, many people do. Nobody has to be to blame. It happens. He was an excellent writer, performer, and person, nonetheless, and his memory should not depend on what he drank, but what he left as a legacy for his children, maybe a little tarnished, but beautiful, and loving.

Remembering 1992 Lord just give us back Keith Whitley and Chris LeDoux and music will be saved. On a side note, check out Kevin Moon's version of this. He's absolutely amazing

This is a beautiful song! I think they must have loved each other in their own ways to even be together. I like them both as musical artist and the rest is none of my business, just like it is no one else's! No one knows what goes on in a home unless they are in the home!

I can not believe I found this man on you tube. He was my favorite and now I play this over and over. No one has and never will touch him. What a voice. His son looks like him and i hope he hits it big one day. Lorie still sounds good. Just keep up the good work. Miss Keith. God Bless.

People the plain and simple fact is that Keith was an awesome artist with his life in the limelight for all the world to see. Millions of people have addictions but we don't have to worry about being scrutinized by the world. He had an awesome voice and could write damn good songs. Anybody on a high horse judging others needs to realize that everybody is different. If we wasn't then everybody would look alike, sound alike, etc.!!!! Then there would be no such thing as artistry!!

I really liked Keiths music and was privileged to see him in a bar in Pensacola, Fla. There was only a few people there but Keith sang like there were thousands. He was a super gentleman and even took pics with my sister and I. I cherish the picture. I cried when he died. A true talent gone before his time. Its obvious how much Lorrie loved him when you hear her music. God keep Keith in his loving arms. He is at peace.

I lost my other half of 17 years July 5, 2006. He too was an alcoholic. I have an urn necklace with "Hopelessly Yours" engraved on the back, this song just described my feelings perfectly at the time and we were both HUGE Keith fans. If you or someone you love suffer from alcoholism PLEASE seek help, I promise you're worth it and living aint all that bad! God bless.

Keith Whitley was nothing short of INCREDIBLE ! He does this rough demo beautifully. This song was also recorded by the GREAT George Jones many years ago. It might be on an album of George Jones' Duets, titled "Ladies Choice".

No, sadly, this was one of many that didn't make it on any legitimate release. There were some shaky ones, but most of the unreleased material were definitely worthy of legitimate release. And this one was one of them, I agree. Thank you!

It's a statement of the time we live in. Many of us are just so sensitive and take much of what is said to us the wrong way. The last 2 years that I've become really, really involved in the Keith Whitley Country Music Hall of Fame petition drive has also been a crash course in human nature, but I've been a fan of Keith's for 21 years.

Wow, I didn't know Keith Whitley also had a version of this. The Suzy Boggus version came out when I was little and I would get excited every time it came on. You don't hear it played very often, sadly.

Keith Whitley was an amazing talent. He had it all. Good Country Voice, absolutely outstanding song writing ability and a great band. But he was an alcoholic. It was not Lorrie Morgan's fault. It was HIS choice. For gosh sakes folks, quit blaming Lorrie Morgan for his mistakes. Who are you to judge? No one knows the dynamics at home. I expect neither were angels. Okay? Most of us aren't. God Rest his soul and I for one thank him for his music. Wish he was still here.

i had lunch with Kieth's mom also Daisey the county clerck invited my crew when we were wireing the apartment's in Sandy Hook back in the late 80's loved the hospitality of the people in Elliot County

A lot of American records are not even released here. I asked some lads in our local pub...'Who is Garth Brooks'...after being in a huddle for a while, theyy came up with' He's a footballer'.(and at that time he'd sold 60 million records world wide)....best wishes to you and yours.

When I was last in Sandy Hook on Labor Day Weekend '06, my mom & daughter got bored and wanted to take a hike down the nature trail that runs behind the visitors center there. When we came back in from the hike, my friend Jeff (mdgtrpkr) told me I had just missed Jessie by, like, 5 minutes. He said he had been there with his posse to visit with his Grandma Faye. Hey, I feel somewhat differently now than what I did a year ago. Lorrie has proven that she is behind our efforts and has made no attempt to shut us down, because I can assure you, if she wanted to, she'd have done it a long time ago. I don't harbor any hatred towards Lorrie Morgan, but I'm perplexed by some of the decisions she makes. Like selling the Whitbom. That car was a museum piece! The history behind that car... Dottie West was the previous owner before Keith bought it!

She was young ,not even 30 with 2 kids ,she was probably so heart broken and angry with Keith. We don't know what we'd do in those circumstances just try putting yours in her shoes .I've been married to a wonderful man for nearly 30 years he did something 8 years into our marriage that broke my heart but I can tell you this she when we were split it felt like he was dead .there was a whole piece my heart that was missing .I love him with a passion so lorrie was probably hurting had two small kids a son who kept asking when's daddy coming home .What you say oh your dad drank himself to death .we all have demons to deal with .just try to help your fellow man .

If you watch, I believe, part 1 of my video series "The Life & Times of Keith Whitley," you will hear his brother Dwight tell how he thought Keith came into alcohol addiction as a teenager. He said that ppl offered it when you come offstage, & it was readily available. And at that point in his life, he was not mature enough to say no, and Ralph Stanley let him have it. He felt he was responsible for him only to a point. Keith's dad Elmer was a drinker, too, but was not addicted to it like Keith.

Gone at 32, and this recording shows the ravages his voice had already suffered. Just one of the pointless deaths in music due to substance abuse. I came home from a ball game in New York, and heard the bulletin on the news at 2 A.M. It was an awful jolt. I love "Till Each Tear you Cry Becomes a Rose."

Does anyone know exactly when Keith cut this? The earliest version I can find was George Jones' 1986 version, so I assume Keith cut it sometime then, but I cannot verify that hypothesis.

+Dylan Arthur Keith passed away in 1989 - so it was definitely before George cut it. It was cut by John Conlee in 1989 on his "Perfect Strangers" album -- according to Wikipedia. I first heard it on Lee Greenwood's Duet album "A Perfect Ten" in 1991. Fine song - glad to know it was co-written by the late, great Keith.

+Dylan Arthur Did a bit more research - just out of personal curiosity. According to Copyright Encyclopedia, this song was executed (whatever that means) on Feb 4, 1986 and the copyright was recorded Sept 19, 1986. Copyright is held by Claude (Curly) Putnam Jr. ... written by Putnam, Keith Whitley ad and Don Cook.

Talent is secondary to the music industry. It is a business and they'll produce whatever the public will buy..sometimes talent and public taste combine and great singers and songwriters become successful. Keith Whitely was a great artiste who will be remembered . I wonder why so many country artistes have English names..Parton..Nelson..Jones..Strait..Jackson..Black..Cash and of course..Whitley...best wishes to you all from across the 'pond'.

He had alcoholism which was made worse by the fact that he never dealt with the demons of his past. It is unfortunate that a great talent like Keith is gone due to this disease.

@MyTiger44 Keith was born at Kings Daughters Hospital in Ashland, KY on July 1, 1954, and died at his home in Goodlettsville, TN on May 9, 1989. That would make him 34 years of age at the time of death.

I dont think Lori did anything to keith but love him the best she could and he loved her. Keith just struggled with the bottle as many of us have and while tragic you cant always make a conspiricy out of everything. I would rather remember keith in all his glory as a fellow kentuckian.

Thank you for the very nice comment. I agree with everything you said. Keith enjoyed quite a following in Europe, having released his 1st UK single, "Birmingham Turnaround," just before his death. As far as country artists all having English names, that may be because country music was born of old folk tunes that was sung in the Appalachian Mountains by immigrants from Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, England, and other European countries who settled there. But, I should add, to her defense, Lorrie did shut down some not-too-kosher operations that some people tried to start and attached Keith's name to. To that end, I do applaud her for that. We have to always be careful what we say about people before we get all sides to the story.

No, she hasn't. I don't know what her reasoning is, and I try not to speculate. Right now I'm at a place where I just don't understand people. It would seem the ones who you'd expect to get support from are the ones who don't give it. As old as I am, that concept still hasn't dawned on me. It still throws me for a loop.
