I don't know if someone can answer me, I would like to understand this sentence : "I can barely afford to eat much more red meat" . It is an expression to say that she is sad because she lost her love so she no longer eats meat or its expression from USA ? I am French. thank you
I always thought it was meant to be taken literally and left it at that, but your comment made me think deeper on it and I think I've got it. It is meant to be taken literally but for a reason, as in "I can barely afford to eat much more red [meat]" because that's when they usually tell you to quit when you have a... bad heart. But given her age, although these days it's beginning to change, her bad heart wouldn't be caused by a heart disease but a heart ache as you've pointed out. Thanks for making me think this one through.
