There are not too many singers that can sustain notes as high or as consistently as a prime Patti Labelle. Her songs are vocally demanding. That’s why when they give her tributes they key of the song is brought down to accommodate the singers tributing to her due to them not having a tessitura that sits as high as her’s or the vocal technique/stamina. Keke is over singing this song. And she lacks the unbridled passion, emotion and energy of the song. I also noticed Keke can't hit some of the highs in full voice. She is using her falsetto and here top notes aren't as strong. Patti and even Coko are singing in full voice and don't have to use falsetto to hit highs. I actually love Keke's voice.. But I just think Coko does a better job on this song. And Coko doesn't over sing it. And the people that compare Keke to Patti are clinically insane. Patti in her prime was from another planet.

I personally only heard Patti's voice first live in like 1993 and boy her voice was literally unimaginable and beyond description. I cant even imaging like a 1985 Patti on a stage! I've heard keke live (2006) and her voice is great but patti up to her late 60s at least would slaughter her without a sweat. And thats saying a lot.
