I walked on the Kekekabic from the East side off the Gunflint Trail (which is a road) up in Northern Minnesota out of Grand Marais.
Never hiked this end of the trail. Interesting to see the burned area coming back. Thought it would be an easy saunter. I thought wrong.
Kekekabic Trail Guide.....shop.northcoun...
Thanks for watching.

Sorry to see the trip didn't go quite as planned, but a little butt kicking from nature once in a while can be good for the soul too, I think. My wife and I hiked the Brule Lake trail in peak bug season this summer after I had to cancel a paddling permit, what a difference from the SHT or a BWCA portage. Very grown over in places and lots of hidden, wet rocks in the tread; really tough to follow in places. Your quote "I thought it would be an easy saunter..." applies to my experience with that trail too. But it felt great to finish together and we were even rewarded with time spent watching a bull moose have breakfast out in Fishhook Lake one morning. Thanks for the video Shug, always enjoy hearing of your adventures.

Great view of that section of trail! BTW, the canoe routes just south of that area of hiking trail are also very rustic and remote if you are ever inclined to paddle it too. The Ham Lake fire really did a number to all of that and won't recover in our lifetimes, but at least with some struggle a guy can still see it. Thanks for the hard work on your videos.

G'day Shug, Yay Team ! That sounds like a great Expedition...; one is very envious..., the best I could do today was 8.4 Km on the eBike - I pedal for a Km and twist the grip-throttle for a Km, so I pedalled half the tripmeter. How did the Nose Repair go, I can't really spot a lot of it - from the Phonescreen - so it looks impressively normal, to me (!). I'm boasting about tiny rides though, on flat bitumen, round and round and up and down the Carpark of Coffs Harbour Hospital, 4 and a half weeks into 7 weeks of putting my head in a Linear Accelerator for 5 minutes per day, at 6.1 Megavolts of Beam Output, 5 days per week. With 70 mg of Cis-Platin on Tuesday mornings. And, the "Evil Twin" which was the size of an Apple poking out of my Neck a month ago (a secondary Tumour from Tonsil Cancer) when treatment started, to now being smaller than the end joint of my thumb - as it was at the start of April - when I took it to the Dr. So, happily enough, Australia has Free Universal Medical Treatment, including a subsidised twin-bed "Motel Room" in a Lodge on Hospital grounds, for people who live more than 100 Km from the Cancer Institute, and I live 300 km away, so with 40 cents per Km of travel Rebate, and 7 weeks in a "Motel" room for $175 total, and the Chemotherapy and 6.1 Megavolt Beam Output for almost 3 Hours in 35 "fractions" - is all free ! I think that as a Pensioner, with no private Health Insurance, I would have been dead by the Equinox next month ; if I lived where you do... And, people do say that Cancer hates Excercise - so between getting my Head cooked, I try to do at least 5 km on the Bike every day... Ah, yeah, at the driving home stage of the Video I saw the result of that Repair on your Nose - it looks very good, mate. Well done..! Keep on keepin' on. Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !
@shugemery
@shugemery 2 года назад
Glad to hear your noggin' is fairing well. Keep on electro-peddling to good health. Do you in Australia pay high taxes? Something has to pay pay for that nice "free" healthcare. Since I am/was an independent contractor for work I have to pay for my Health Insurance. Meg and I pay $678 USD a month apiece!!!! That is really for catastrophic events. Still a $10,000 deductible. No dental included. Burns a hole in the pocket. But when I turn 65 next May I will start receiving Medicare. That will ease my load and make this pensioner a wee bit joyful.
@WarblesOnALot
@WarblesOnALot 2 года назад
@@shugemery Well, everybody who pays Taxes pays a 1.5% Medicare Levy, and if by age 35 they still haven't got sucked into buying Private Health Insurance because they want to skip a waiting list for something which is Elective..., as a lot of Yuppies do...; then the Medicare Levy rises to 2.5 % of Taxable Income, annually. My daughter looked it up, and the numbers are, before the applying the Medicare Levy... The Dole, "Newstart" is $13,000 per year, and the Disability Pension they pay me (1/3 Nurses Back, 1/3 Ultralight Motorglider Test Pilot's Ankle, and 1/3 for the short-circuit - post 2 Head-Injuries..., which causes me to tell the truth in public places) is $25,662 per year (!). People earning less than $18,000 pay no Tax.., but there is a 10% Goods and Services Tax on everything but unprocessed foods, Staple Groceries, and Womens' Sanitary Products, Unemployed and Pensioners get a Concession Card to buy cheaper subsidised Pharmaceuticals..., Discount Public Transport, Free Registration on 1 vehicle but it has to have 3rd Party personal Insurance..., discount Rates and a few goodies... Then, in the Workforce... From $18,000 to $45,000 the Tax on everything over $18,200 is 19%. Those earning from $45,000 to $120,000 pay $5,092 plus 32.5% on everything over $45,000. Those earning $120,00/ to $180,000 pay $29,462, plus 37% of everything over $120,000... And the Tax on anyone earning over $180,000 is $51,667 plus 45% on everything over $180,000. I'm a total outlier. I got spat out of Nursing after lifting one fat old lady too many in 1986, and went down the Worker's Compensation track, which took 4 years and halfway through that I married a divorcee with 2 kids at foot, so when the Hospital's Insurance settled out of Court I got half their first offer from 3 & a half years earlier. My lesson in greed, they subtracted EVERYTHING which they had paid me in Workers' Comp, and Travel to Doctors, and all their Court Costs preparing to defend against me. I bought a hundred acres for an Ultralight Airstrip, a prefab Hangar, a Shed, a 3/4 finished VJ-24w Scratch-build Project, & a Lawn Locker (in which I still live.) We had added 2 Elective Homebirths to the Brady Bunch, and after completing the Aeroplane I spent 10 hours of taxiing and hops before 6 hours of careful Test Flying, I carved two Propellers and flew behind them, and overconfidence kicked in at 6 & 1/2 hours and I crashed trying a downwind takeoff in a paddock too short. And when I could walk again, when I went back to the Block to try and concrete rocks into a house(it's a Bassalt Traprock Ridge, Rocks I have a surplus of...) my missus acquired a new boyfriend and sued me for Custody - which took me 9 years on a typewriter on the Dole to sort out, self represented. In the final spasm she lost 4 Cases in 4 Jurisdictions in 4 weeks (Local, District, Federal Family, and State Children's Courts) and two weeks after the Court rescued my two kids, my eldest stepson hanged himself 6 weeks before he would have turned 21 - my kids were 11 & 12 - and suddenly people understood why I had not quit. On my 14th wedding anniversary I heard both my stepsons were in separate Psyche Hospitals. That was about 6 months after they put me on the Pension. However, I give away my best work, so in 1995 when I realised that a mate who got me to help him Aerotow Hang Gliders behind his 3-Axis Ultralight, 500 times, illegally, were kinda "World Leaders" after watching Bill Moyes tow a Hangie into the Runway, rescuscitating him with the Ambulance crew (I was still Registered as a General Nurse) but he only lived for 3 days...; and when I wrote an Operations Manual for Aerotow Launch Controllers, and gave it to Moyes, they declined to adopt my methods - in case him using Radio like we did was seen as a "Post Facto Admission Of Negligence... " ! So in 1997 I wrote to CASA sending ALL my (illegal) R&D Results of our 500 Aerotows, and my Crash Analysis of the dead Quentin, and my Teaching-Materials for the Lockout Index, suggesting they invite me to the next Coroners' Inquest, or make my method mandatory. They then made my method Mandatory Industry Standard for all Aerotowing Training Operations, after 5 months, in 1997 - and 6 months later Bill managed to kill the President of the Canowindra Hang Gliding Club - very experienced but still dead. So since 1998 my way is mandatory. It prevents some 10 Takeoff Crashes per year ever since, and at 1 Fatal, 2 high Quadriplegiacs, 3 Paraplegiacs in Wheelchairs, and 4 more fractured Yuppies who could afford a $25,000 Hang Glider with which to frighten themselves - all too broken to pay Tax for 6 months or 2 years. Centrelink told me they're delighted to pay me 25 grand to feed Swamp Wallabies and Kangaroos on my Endangered Species Sanctuary, because they sa my bloodyminded stubborn interference saves Oz $31,000,000 worth of Not dead and Not broken Hang Glider Pilot/Taxpayers per year, for 24 years. In my "Personal Aeroplanology " playlist there's one titled "Aerotow-Launcing Rogallo Hang Gliders ; Development & Implementation Of The Lockout Index...!" Which shows the photos and Magazine articles. Also, a month ago I posted "National Transport Museum ; Visiting My First Aeroplane !" And at the other end of that Playlist, 10 years earlier I posted a Slideshow Video of the same Plane, titled, "The 8-Hp, 1975, Red Baron Skycraft Scout ; World's 1st Legal Minimum Aircraft !" It took me for my first Solo, I was it's 3rd owner - from 1978 to '82, so I did nothing actually "pioneering" because it was obsolete when I got it. But I didn't crash it, and I'm the last person to have ever flown it - of which I'm inordinately proud. You could have a lot of fun in that playlist. A good combination is, first, "Armidale Airshow 17. The PhotoSniper's View!" to overview the World's Stormiest Airshow - and thus decide if you want to watch all the preceeding videos of the buildup, or merely the "Armidale Airshow 16. Wirraway, Harvard, Avenger...!" somehow I omitted the CAC Boomerang from that title. They all 4 took off into a Storm with a 500 ft Ceiling, to Display - a WW-2 Pacific Theatre Tribute, with Pyrotechnics on the ground..., which I PhotoSnipered in 35mm/300mm Telephoto , and then1 more Line-Astern low pass which I videoed, and as they landed the Avenger - the Rain began. I kid you not... It was Insane, but if they failed to display then the Ferry Flight Fees would not break-even on their attendance..., I guess (?)! So, yeah, my kids are now 32 & 33, my daughter moved back to my place in a 6-metre Yurt, before my Cancer was diagnosed, she's a Team Leader Traffic Controller at Roadworks, and arrived with a Kit-Home Flatpack to build before the Yurt falls to bits, my son owns his business, he's the Town Auto-Electrician and a Group Officer in the (Volunteer) Rural Fire Service, commanding 6 Brigades... So the Custody fight was well worth it. My stepsons' father left his kids with a woman he could not stand to live with, and I was not goanna do that. So, long answer. Such is life, Have a good one... Stay safe, ;-p Ciao !
