Good video. I have one in OD Green and I love it. Lightweight, compact and accurate. When I first bought mine I bought four different brands of ammo, some Remington golden bullet, some Winchester, Herters and CCI. It really didn't like the Herters so I've avoided buying any more of that. I've stuck with CCI since that's recommended in the manual, and it seems to like both the Mini Mags and Stingers, though the Stingers are under recommended weight. Plenty of fun for a day at the range!
Mine is like a fat kid in a candy store, It'll eat what I give it. I've fed it from the top of the line, to the bottom of the barrel and it just eats away. I find the trigger to be OUTSTANDING, I hardly have to touch it. When I first got it, I broke it down and cleaned it, then oiled and lubed it, even the underside of the slide. Took it to the range with old and kinda new ammo, and except for 5 duds, it ran like clock work. For a "cheaply" priced pistol, it really made me wonder why I waited so long in buying it. Before buying it, I thought it was a ugly POC and I'd NEVER EVER own one. What a dummy I was. After all my research on RU-vid from people who own em (good and no so good) I ordered one. I surprises me every time I shoot it. Those magazines need a little breaking in though, but other than that, it's a gem.
I took some 1000 grit wet/dry sand paper, took the slide off and rubbed / cleaned up the under side of the slide a little bit. Then I used CLP to coat it. My P17 runs flawlessly now, even if I use the slide stop to chamber a round. With this said, I believe Kel-Tec says to always slingshot the slide in order to chamber the round? Thanks for doing the video :)
Thank you for the video. The P-17 is a good and fun little pistol. I have one and it does not like federal automatch and browning pro-22. But runs everything else i have put in it. 🙂👍
Read the book, it’s not a slide release, it’s a slide stop, if you slingshot the slide it will load first round just fine. Using slide as slide release will wear it out, then you won’t have a slide catch.
lol. This seems like a conversation I’ve had several times. ru-vid.comikAd8mkCIUM?feature=shared Watch till the end. Photos of “the book” from 3 different manufacturers, including Kel-Tec.
@@kentuckyrangetime nowhere in Keltecs P17 manual does it say to use the slide lock to chamber a round. It specifically says to slingshot the slide to chamber the round
@@kentuckyrangetime My page 13 item 6 last sentence has NOTHING to do with the slide, that entire paragraph has nothing to do with the slide. It talks about the handgrip and mag release. When i found that section about how to chamber a round, it says to manually sling shot the slide so that the slide has the proper momentum to chamber a round. Remember how physics works, when you drop the slide lock, the slide is only going to move forward so much and be restricted by the spring tension rate in that spot. When you sling shot the slide, you are pulling the slide back another few mm's which compresses the spring more which means more force forward to chamber a round. You will get more force forward for chambering when you sling shot it. That extra force can be the difference between battery and out of battery as those that find out by not sling shotting it and wonder why its out of battery. I sling shot mine and it always fully chambers a round. I have done the slide release and i have had quite a few times where it didnt go into battery.
I have two of them and they both eat all ammo I have used from 36 grain to 40 grain copper clad ammo with No Issues in over 1000 rounds shot in each! I just don't shoot Lead ammo!
Got mine yesterday, nothing but issues. 16th round is a pita to get in, end up putting a ding in the 15th round just to get that 16th round in. Then then the mag won't lock into place unless the slide is open, then when you release the slide, it wont chamber that 16th round at all, ever, i have to push it into battery and half the time it wont let me, it just jams on that 16th round. When i use 15 rounds, the mag will lock in with a closed slide and will chamber that 15th round with no issue. Then i get failure to eject or feed every 2-3 shots. Im using the CCI AR Tactical 40 grain 1200 fps which is high velocity and the manual claims it needs high velocity. Maybe it needs more who know ?? I have to go back this weekend and keep messing with it, otherwsie im calling Keltec.
@@kentuckyrangetime ALL 3 yes. That 16th round will not let me insert the mag to lock it, there is def something holding it back. The only way to latch it in is to lock the slide back. Then when you sling shot the slide, it jams upon trying to chamber that 16th round every time and i cant even push or force it to chamber.
@@ACommenterOnRU-vid I’d try to message Kel-Tek’s customer support and see what they say. Sounds like a possible production issue with the magazines..??
@@kentuckyrangetime Today i took the P17 and used CCI Mini mags, all 150 rounds fired perfectly. All cycled with NO issues. i think i had maybe 2 or 3 times where the slide had an issue chambering that 16th round but with a little push, it chambered fine. Filled up 3 mags about 9 times and 100% of the rounds fired off. I even got some CCI Stingers to test and all those 50 fired off with ease.
No shooter should ever chamber a round with the slide stop ever, now you can chamber the first round by taping the bottom of the mag if your so lazy you don’t want to pull the slide and the factory says tapping the bottom of mag is an acceptable method
@@reelnative01 So let me say this since you’re doubling down on something you obviously have little or no experience with. You could better inform yourself with firsthand information instead of repeating false information you got from someone else’s incorrect opinion about how to operate and manipulate handguns. I’ll leave your personal growth moment to your own recognizance, but I will not have you posting incorrect information on my channel without calling you out on it.
