Terrific carbine. Pretty sure those nice welds are automated. Very impressive factory that's well worth the tour. My wife still brings it up in conversation.
I have a 20”er and it’s a well thought out rifle. If you set your gas adjustment properly, zero issues with functioning and it will run like a scalded ape. Only issue I have run into is zeroing due to the height over bore being more than I am accustomed to, but that’s an easy fix. Great little rifle, compact and well balanced. Cheers.
I have 5 Keltec guns and have had no issues: very innovative and light weight. The plastic they use is very strong and easy to clean. Favorite is the KSG so far but like your video on this RDB !!
Picked up mine yesterday, no rounds through it yet. Fingers crossed! I was a little reluctant based on reliability issues displayed on videos from a few years ago(double loading and such). I'm excited
I think most issues came misadjusted gas or early growing pains with the rifle production.....hell not a gun manufacture to date hasn't had a few lemons on early production models. People just love to hate on Kel Tec no matter what. To be honest if you have a doublefeed with any rifle most are going to find cover to evaluate or transition to a secondary firearm vs troubleshooting in dire moments (which to be honest 99% of people will never experience a critical moment)
Just got a 20 inch rdb and the FIRST thing I did was slap on the extended lucky Irishman rhino rail, it's a MUST have brother and really makes the rifle look and feel great 👍
You're the first channel I've seen that does closeups like this. I really appreciated being able to see up close, even if the camera was focus breathing a bit. (A quick fix to that is when to put your whole palm behind the part you're wanting to highlight. That gives the camera's focus sensor something [bigger] to lock onto.) Also thank you for the non-crotch shot! 🤣 PS: I saw in another comment you're a fabricator and designer by profession. A thought [that you likely have had]: with your specialized knowledge, detailed shots, and love of guns, you could find a niche in RU-vid and make a living off just videos. I mean kids review MAKEUP and make $10k a month! Like I said: I'm not familiar with anyone else doing detailed videos like this. And even if so, you have a unique mix that might do *really* well. With a tripod, solid (white?) background, and a couple nice LED lights, your shots-and perhaps channel-would go to the next level.
I appreciate the comments! Not sure I want to make a living off MY YT videos, but I do enjoy throwing some info out there now and again! Took a little break from everything since I just settled in another state, but I totally plan on throwing a few more RDB videos out there, just because it is such a Love Hate rifle for so many. It does have quite the cult following though and people who want to get in the bullpup game at a reasonable price. Thanks for the focus tips.as well👍
It's not perfect, but I absolutly love mine. My shooting round count has tappered off due to the great 2020 2021ammo famine, but I have yet to have a failire.
Thanks for the video! I highly recommend the Raptor or Rhino handguard and I found the bolt release lever to be handy. I think you'll enjoy shooting it!
Been shooting every few days just to prove the rifle out, and so far no complaints on my part, it has been reliable and a pleasure to shoot. I have looked at the Rhino Rail and Kel Tecs version online, but have not felt the need to purchase as of now (but i am sure i will). Thx for commenting!
@@Welder6131 Removing it is more difficult since there are no captive pins. The front one is replaced with a bushing and screws. That is the benefit of the new rail directly from kel tec. That fits just like the plastic hand guard.
I have a 17" RDB on the way. Wanted the mid-weight barrel without getting too long. Plan on putting a Lucky Irishman rail and Sig Sauer LPVO on it. I've had some shoulder (rotator cuff) issues and I'm hoping this works well with them. I tend to like SBRs.
I got it in today, along with the LPVO. I'm kinda blown away with the engineering. It's like genius level, the way the hammer and trigger assembly work together. Wish they had used a metal trigger, not plastic. Other than that. I'm ready to break in in. 😎👌
@@Welder6131 I've been experimenting with neodymium magnets around the bolt to reduce recoil, I put some on my AR pistol and noticed an immediate difference, I put some on my RDB, I haven't got to shoot it yet but with how small the bolt is it might take away the little bit of recoil that it does have
@@Welder6131 I put magnets on my AR9 and immediately noticed a difference, the casings turn black at the tip from the chamber not opening immediately, it's kind of like a delayed blowback like the MP5, Scorpion and CMMG have, only it's alot cheaper, I can't wait to see if this works with my RDB, I might even try it with my KSG
@@Welder6131 if there was a way to mount magnets and have them actually touch the bolt but not stop it completely, that would probably work even better but the only way to do that would be to take a dremel to the upper and I'm not comfortable drilling into my guns lol, if you could do this to a 3D printed gun and make little spots for the magnets to fit in to that would be even better, I need to invest in a 3D printer
I've got some ideas for some upgrade/after market parts for the rdb that I think would be pretty popular but I'm waiting to put them out there till I have a chance to try them out and see if any of said ideas hold up.
So you’re saying the gas isn’t tuned by default. I’ll guess I’ll have to crack the manual or look out for tubes. I’ll rip mine apart and lube it. Should have it today or Sat.
Yes, the factory does test fire the weapon , but depending on your ammo choice it may require tweaking. 2yrs in and i am still on same gas setting that i originally set, regardless of ammo type.
My round count has tappered off since the great ammo shortage of 2020, but it continues to be my favorite rifle. Aftermarket support continues to grow as well. Glad I bought it!
I think it's just because it's kel tec and a lot of the earlier models had problems I know that's typical with most of their firearms however they' make an original product and I think the RdB was well executed in my opinion. I still shoot mine quite often and it's proven to be a really reliable well thought out firearm
If you want to keep feeling like it's high quality make sure to never fully take apart the receiver...as soon as you separate the two halves and see how flimsy they actually are it kills your confidence. Also be weary of light primer strikes. It's a cool design, but I'd never use my RDB for life-or-death situations.
Meh, as a fabricator and designer by profession, I see flimsy components by themselves all day long. Once assembled or mated with other components that is where they gain the rigidity needed to perform. Its like a stamped ak reciever before assembly. I can twist and bend the reciever to the point of ruin until fully assembled.....then its rock solid. So the proof is in the pudding for me, this gun has been a solid performer through experience with this specific rifle. Thanks for your comment!
