Kellie Harper out as Tennessee women’s basketball coach 

She wasn't given enough time to bring the program back! 😢 At least Kellie brought them back to the tournament.

If we keep using Pat Summit as the yardstick, we'll never keep the position filled for very long. Kelli Harper is one of the best coaches currently and won't be unemployed for long.

You will never recruit a Summit and find instant gratification. Not sure VOLS Admin understands the building process. I don’t watch VOLS WBB but they sure looked like they were on the right track. Someone will pick up a good coach.

I knew Kellie would regret ever taking the head coaching job. She was building a program. I hope the best & a lot of success for Kellie & her famoly.

I’m a Texas Longhorn fan and does follow this team. Dumb move by the university. Texas did the same to Rick Barnes. They need someone to take the program in a different direction. Kellie did an excellent job with what she had to deal with. She will hopefully get a new job soon.

Compare Pat Summit's first 5 years win/loss percentage with Kelli Harper's first 5 years at UTK. They're pretty much the same (Summit- .706/Harper- .675), taking into account COVID-19 shortening the 2019 - 2020 season during Harper's term. Summit didn't show her future promise until her sixth year, and then she quickly advanced to become a Hall of Fame-level coach. If White was AD back then, Summit would have had to become Hall of Fame level somewhere else.

I agree with the sentiment from most of the comments on the thread. You either need to get a big time coach (Staley, Geno, Vanderveer, etc) or you need to get a coach that's passionate as fuck about the program. You just fired the latter. And you're not going to draw those big names away from where they're established and already having success. Tennessee needs to realize the parity in women's sports. It's not just yall anymore. Need a new strategy

Mrs pat summit i love her ❤️ 😢but one thing people have realized coaches are different i understand noone will ever mrs pat my opinion i feel coach for tennessee was amazing just don't give up on coach things takes time i like the team cause i loved mrs summit one of best coach besides mrs dawn mr geno love my uconn women's basketball team praying for coach they let go wishing her best ❤😊

Wes Moore could be a great pick. If he wants to leave NC State. Wes Moore was a powerhouse at UT Chattanooga. And he’s doing a great job at NC State.

It’s very difficult to replace Pat Summit. There just aren’t that many good coaches to replace her.

LIKE someone else has said, There will NEVER be another Pat Summit, & programs have to go through the hard shift just like SC did I’m sure other schools too, She was a decent coach, you will see her again & a championship May follow.

Tennessee needs to get Southern Cal. Coach or try to get Baylor coach.

Feel bad for Kellie. When she was hired really hope she was the one. Unfortunately she was not very good at recruiting, regardless of NIL available to Lady Vols. Next coach needs to be big name and able to recruit HS & Transfer Portal.

Bad decision

Many Volunteer fans (and I'm one of them) were shocked and dismayed by the injustice of Kelli's dismissal and like Pat Summitt remain proud of her on and off the hardwood. With significant athletic accomplishments in her resume both as a fierce three peat national champion player and winning coach she is a role model for young women and an ambassador for the sport and Kellie will land on her feet to coach again. But in my opinion the future of women's basketball at UT is not as bright or certain. What sane coach would want to coach there doomed by high expectations from the Pat Summitt era at Tennessee? Kellie made the NCAA Tournament four out of her five seasons coaching Rocky Top and the Lady Vols have been in the Sweet 16 in each of the past two seasons! And injuries for key players which kept them on the sidelines prevented even better results. Few active college coaches in women's basketball today can boast a better record. UT needs to seriously consider that if not carefully managed the biggest enemy of excellence in college sports can be unreasonable demands by the alumni association for perfection.
