Tiffany's version was just a cover, although it did reach number one on the charts in 1987. Tommy James and the Shondells had the original hit. It reached number 4 on the charts in 1967.

Indeed. I assumed crediting Tiffany meant this was meant to be a precise recreation of Tiffany's version, but nope, their social media is just managed by someone who doesn't know much musical history.

Tiffany's cover was the second Tommy James and the Shondells song to hit number one in 1987. Earlier in the year, Billy Idol released his cover of 'Mony Mony'. It reached number one while the original reached number 3 in 1968.

And more people scrolling RU-vid are likely to recognize the song with her name attached than with the original band, and her name is much shorter so works better in a video title. It’s also the version Kelly is likely to be more familiar with. That’s all just my theory as to why Tiffany is in the title, though. (And I don’t mean it as trying to take anything away from the original band.)

Just remember that it was composted by Ritchie Cordell for Tommy James and the Shondells way back in 1967. The song is 57 years old and still holds up today.

I love how she sings it simple and straight almost all the way through. She could riff all over it, but holds it in reserve. You know it's coming, and you can't wait, and then just a couple of lines she goes off like you we all know she can, and even then it's not more than it needs to be. She can sing and she knows it, we know it, she doesn't have to prove it any more. Classy.

Tiffany recorded it when she was about 14 and this song reached no. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 when she was 16 in 1987!!! Also no. 1 over UK. Despite it being a cover of TJ & S, she took the song to the next level not only in US, UK but worldwide. Even TJ acknowledged that in his interviews👏❤
