Kelly Park is one of the Orange County Parks. Rock Springs is located just outside of Orlando in Apopka, Florida. Beautiful Rock springs, the tubing run is a 3/4 mile loop right inside Kelly Park. The Campground has 26 sites, very spacious and great shade with many having a wooded view!

Rock Springs used to be a much more natural place. You parked about 50 yards from the head spring. No tubes, you used a snorkel, or not, and just went with the current. Lots of fish, big fish too. Never saw gators did see snakes. You could also walk in to the tree lines and see underground springs as they bubbled up. The thing I remembered most was the clear water and how cold it was which felt so good on those hot, humid, summer afternoons.

Gators do occasionally make their way up the river and into the main swimming hole... My brothers and I helped remove a 7ft gator from the water near the diving platform in 1984.. Haven't been to the park in 30 years since I moved to the midwest but I will be back next year..

Growing up in apopka Florida as a kid I loved this place and would spend all day swimming... Back in the mid 80s there was nothing better than being at rock springs / Kelly park as a kid just exploring... They also have hot springs or we called them boils just off the trail at the very beginning of the river and you sit in them felt awesome.. you can also look for sharks teeth because they come up from the underground rivers located under the park... pretty cool sinkholes in the park as well... wekiva springs state park is another great place to explore in central Florida...

Kelly Park is one of the hidden gems in Florida! A natural 3/4 mile lazy river that you can keep doing, major kayaking right there, and nice hiking trails! Kelly Park isn't far from Mt. Dora for a day trip either! Hope that was enough to get you to go lol.

@@CampTravelExplore When we were kids ( early 70s) a cage covered the spring but you could get under it and explore the limestone caves including a large underwater cave. Not the smartest thing. Also a while ago a boy was killed by an alligator when canoeing with his father. My understanding is that they were a few miles down from the spring.

I used to live in Mt. Dora but never heard of this park. Knew of Wekeiva Springs St. Park but not this. Looks soo inviting. What is the rental like for kiaks? Tubbing? Is there gators?
@CampTravelExplore
@CampTravelExplore 5 лет назад
It is a very popular park, the tubing run is great and you can get out walk back up the boardwalk and keep doing it, one of the only natural lazy rivers I know of! Gators are not ever really a problem at the spring and tubing run, they stay out on the river, so if kayaking you may get a look at them. Thanks for subscribing!

I would say closer to the spring the water would be to cold for the Gators but down the river where the water gets warmer I would say yes.

I don't want to assume anything, as I'm not a diver myself, but I would think it would be a little disappointing to scuba dive- even if it was allowed. The spring isn't all that deep. Aside from a small area at the very beginning (which usually has a line of folks just waiting to jump in) and the swimming area, it's maybe 2-3 feet. It's great to snorkel, I don't know that I'd want to lug around scuba gear for it though.
