That’s so funny, that’s exactly what I said at Sebastian inlet in 1987 watching an ESA contest! My buddy says you don’t know who that is? That kids gonna be a world champ one day his name is Kelly! He was a lil skinny kid 😂 just ripping! Good times! I miss em 😎🤙 aloha from Ft Pierce Fl….
@@emmcey Well, since were not 20 any more, with burning enzymes and hormones to burn through everything,… basically it's this, if you want to be most vital, though individual factors are to be considered case by case: cut out starches, cut out homogenized and pasteurized milk, cut out isolated oils/fats,… and foods made with any of those,…. and instead consume raw-dairy, nose-to-tail animal products (usually cooked, but if you can do raw, and it's safe enough, go for it), fresh fruits in season, raw veggies (low oxalic types), beer (yes really), wine (yes,… all in moderation, don't over do it), water, salt, herbs (culinary,… if cannabis works well for you, ok),… and possible other 'tonics' of whatever sort if you feel to do so. And decide what works for you given all factors,.. and what your body reveals.
Wanna know why? Because it had some resistance. That's the general problem I have with today's boards. everything is too loose, too easy to maneuver. Back in the day, not f long ago, kelly, a/w as everyone else, were surfing on boards with some resistance in them. Where you had to be creating on a wave with way more intention. You can see that on kelly of course, but also think about young kolohe - he would have to put so much power in turns. Today he can lay them the f in as if it was a trick. This thing also is visible now on Colapinto. If you think about felipe, he just pops shit like he surfs a basketball. I think the judges in the wsl have a lot to do with that. It has to do with how they scored everyone through the years, and how the shapers and surfers adapted their game to win. That Y surfing bs, and the I gotta spin the fastest thing. Took surfing to a totallly different place. What's incredible to me is the coincidence between how those loose boards fit the world tour, and at the same time kooks love them because they're so easy to maneuver - although the kooks look even worse now because of course they only think they can move the board better then before, they just look like they surf a god damn roller surfer.
Nasci no mesmo mês e ano desse cara, surfo mais ou menos o mesmo tempo que ele, sou careca...😅...mas não surfo 20% que o Kelly surfa...surfa muito... fã desse surf...
@@kipuchino Can't believe how many folks who don't like that version of animal? So typical comparing it to a recorded version of a band I thought the acoustic/vocal version was great, a perfect song for Kelly's film
Its a shame no one can convince KS to stop experimenting with these different boards. I get the progression aspect but he has sacrificed the smoothness and style that always separated him from the rest. The difference from the first board to the others in this clip is astounding.
Shouldve never strayed from those al merrick hand shapes. Thats when his surfing changed for the worse and has never really recovered. Wizard sleeve, weird quads and 5 fins... about the best i seen him surf since was on an akila aipa hand shape.
@@shacktime brada this was years ago when he started riding some weird boards, "wizard sleeve" at pipe was an early and notable head scratcher. And i get it he was so dominant he needed to mix things up or die of boredom. Hes also always been very forward thinking his whole carreer with an eye towards innovation always.
@@WjB_96792 Pretty sure Al shaped the Wizard Sleeve. And that shape totally changed what people have been riding at Pipe since. It’s why you see so many Pipe guys on shorter, stubbier boards now with those pulled tails and wider noses. Al hasn’t shaped in years and barely shaped at all from 2000 on. Channel Islands was also owned by Burton for many years. They lost a heap of their production shapers after telling them they couldn’t shape under their own labels. CI was recently re-acquired by the Merrick family and it is now employee owned and operated. I have several friends who’ve been working there for some time. It helps to know I grew up in Hawaii (I’m one of Chesser’s peers) and that I’ve lived in Ventura for most of the last two decades. Most of the guys that Kelly grew up riding the shapes of haven’t shaped in a while now. This explains why he’s been on Aipas, Tomos, Woos (Mike’s a friend of mine; known him since ‘89), and others. I think his surfing does look better on polys and with a bit more length but Slater is gonna Slater🤷🏼♂️
@@shacktime thanks man im a couple years younger than chesser and brock them, grew up on oahu. Makakilo but town was my stomping grounds as a kid. Mahalo for the info. Hey ur in ventura u must know el zorb? He still around? Last i heard in mexico? Also i knew davey miller casually when he lived here. Always a huge fan of his surfing. Especially big pipe! Solid jazz drummer and ventura based human!
@@WjB_96792 Yup. Shared a surf with Miller at Point yesterday, in fact. Chatted with him a spell. He’s always had my back from the very beginning of my life here. The old man still rips, too. I mostly surfed the spots from Suis to Wailupe and Country any time I could get it. Been a while. Last time was the winter of 2013/14. Blew my back out in 2019 and was out of the water for most of four years after. Started surfing regularly again a year ago. Hope to get to Country next winter🤙🏼
That was a perfect song for this video! The song had energy! The tempo and the voice were excellent! For this Kelly Slater surfing film. It was pure perfection just like his surfing!
First of all the music sucks. The sound of the ocean with the 11 time world champ would have been so much better. In regards to his surfboards, I never thought he looked the same after leaving Channel Islands. Looks to herky jerky on his boards. While not helping him in the tight pocket formations, would like to see him on a little bit longer boards, with more volume. Something a little more substantial, that would smooth out his surfing. Anyways, my .02 Long Live The Champ !!!!!!!
All he does is cutbacks..surfers need to really become more creative and come up with new moves. He's one of the best ever, yet to the untrained eye he's doing the same shi* on every wave
Your comment is a contradiction. He wasn’t just doing cutbacks, clearly, so to the trained eye wasn’t doing the same “sh*t” on every wave, either. Based on your assertion, you’re the self-admitted untrained eye.
