I can’t believe he’s 49. Almost 50 and he is still not just good, but pro level. It’s incredible. I love it when people defy age barriers. It proves that these barriers are mostly constructs we’ve imposed. Sure a lot of it is lifestyle. But if you can live clean and healthy we have the potential to still be near our best physically much later in life. I’m still surfing much the same as I did 25 years ago. Paddling…not so much. That’s inspiration. Thanks Kelly, I went to Freedom Seven Elementary with you, you sat 2 desks behind me. Competed against you at NKF in menehunes. That’s my claim to fame. Association and proximity.
surfed with Kelly at dreamland in 2004 such a humble guy even back then.. also remember my time surfing medewi such a different feel up there on the west coast.
I agree the he does look comfortable but nothing average with the backhand blasts @2:44. An inspiration to us all and a reminder that nothing else seems to matter when you are in the surf. Been surfing over 40 years now and still get excited when headed for the beach. Very fond memories of this wave back in '86. Thanks for the post
Watching Kelly surf a good hurricane swell in NY about 10 years ago was amazing. During the quicksilver pro. Couldn't have asked for a better swell for long Island
based on the comments most of the viewers have not watched the full clip, 5:30 onwards Slater surfs a heaving beach break and does some of the best turns I've ever seen from any surfer on video
Medewi can be fun but fickle but then can be awesome an not heavy crowd just staying in the villa's on the point is all apart of the experience.. Bagus 🤘
First surfed up there in 1988...there were just cow paddocks. no warungs or accom, we used to drive up from Kuta for a day trip. A couple years later there was a small resto out on the main road called "chew and spew" written on the sign..hilarious. Went back many times over the decades and stayed on the point. people think of Medewi as a soft wave, and it is generally..but wait till its 12-15 foot and breaking way out in the bay. look forward to coming back one day in the future
I miss Slater on a good old AL Merrick surfboard with a quiksilver sticker on the nose. Shit was magic. Regardless, will always love how's he surfs, but I'm just sayin.
I agree he had some magic with Al Merrick good old-fashioned polyurethane surfboards and old style FCS plugs or glass-ons. With that said the boards he rides nowadays are a lot more user friendly.
Me too, Kelly and Tom both surfing for Al for a while was incredible. Tom is still the All Time Stylemaster in my opinion, a wizard who performed magic symphonies on the water. He must have some extra dolphin DNA. And going from trials to title, the only one. Kelly is undoubtedly the Greatest. He raised the bar for decades. In this video, Kelly's board isn't working for him. You know a board is shit if Kelly can't make it work.
Comment les vagues sont plus que pourries au début!!!(pour Bali, pour la Vendée c'est rare et quasi parfait pour nous!!!) Ca doit lui faire tout drôle par rapport à ce qu'il surf d habitude !!!!😲😲😲
Sorry about the matter, vacines, thus the life IS to ALL respect any time broh Go to safety...no individual liberties choices, at the face pandemia mundial, world wide health bill /((
