Federal law needs to be required to both define immigration policy and set how immigrants of every ilk will be dealt with pending any amnesty request ... under federal observation. One of those large open federally owned spaces in middle America could become a "village" for that where those that might become legal residents could be required to at least learn some basic English, etc.

the reason the US military cannot just go to the border is that there is a 2.5 mile DMZ, so only the border patrol and national guard can be in that DMZ, so why not make up whatever amount of border patrol badges and decals for the military personnel and equipment, so they don't violate the DMZ, but at this point in time, maybe, just maybe, its time to merge Mexico and USA borders, thus extending a southern border to south of Mexico, at least for a few years, then the military from both countries could deal with the cartels allowing Mexico and its people to regain control, there really isn't another way other than to invade Mexico and drive back the cartels to the southern border of Mexico, but then you still have central America and South America, and china has control of both sides of the Panama canal too, we need to make canals from Mississippi and great lakes towards the desert areas of the USA for shipping and to detour flooding waters to desert states
