Kelsey Grammer describes turning to alcohol, cocaine, and dangerous behavior after the murder of his younger sister, Karen. The award-winning actor would walk the streets of Manhattan, looking for trouble, but felt that something was protecting him when he found none. Grammer says he was carrying his grief, and describes how he turned it off. The men convicted of her murder originally faced the death penalty, but ultimately ended up serving life in prison, being up for parole each year. Grammer returns to Colorado Springs each year to speak against the remaining offender’s release.

It's crazy that his father was murdered, his sister was murdered, his 2 half brothers died in a scuba diving accident and his grandfather passed from cancer when he was 12. He had so much tragedy in his life.

Kelsey, I’m a state’s attorney and wish to express my gratitude for speaking so eloquently about your grief. For those of us who deal with victims of crime, the pain of loved ones is literally unimaginable. Your beautiful sister’s story sadly illustrates that no matter how hard our justice system may work, there never really is true justice that we mere mortals can ever achieve. All of us in government and law enforcement must nonetheless keep working hard to achieve that which we can. I’m heartbroken upon reading about your sister. There are no words. May you continue to live in as much peace as you humanly can.

Yup. It’s incredibly easy to fall into because during the first part of it, the euphoria of getting ripped or getting geeked like a lab rat and the numbness it brings is actually awesome. Better than cumming. If you can mix the two, HOLY SHIT! Then, after those feelings really stop appearing, you’re just doing it hoping to achieve some semblance of those feelings and trying to fill the immense hole in your heart. Ironically enough, after enough time, you actually try to analyze the pain your trying to escape by getting fucked up WHILE you’re fucked up. Also during those times, you either honestly identify your issues(but seldom is an addict able to rectify the cause/effect triggers of the addiction) or you start laying blame on anyone/everyone that has even been in the remotest, minuscule part of your life. Addiction and addictive behavior is a fascinating study but a terrible thing.

This sheds a bit more light on the episode of "Frazier" where Martin Crane goes to the parole hearing for the guy who shot him and interacts with the convict's mother. That episode gets a lot of hate for the structuring, but I thought it really allowed John Mahoney to develop one of his character's central life events. Knowing about Kelsey's personal grief makes that moment even more poignant.
@randomfullywonderful
@randomfullywonderful 2 года назад
He wanted him to stay in prison for his full term. Martin may not think about the punk everyday, but he did change the course of his life. When Martin sits there, he thinks of everything he lost, and you think of it as someone familiar with the series, too. He wanted to retire, go golfing, go fishing, live independently, things that were taken from him by one selfish prick.

OMG! I just saw the episode 'Animal Nature' on Homicide Hunter and I thought I was mistaken when I read this was Kelsey Grammar's SISTER!! I watched just about every Homicide Hunter episode but this was truly the most disturbing. Now I understand what Joe Kenda meant when he said he decided to end the show because some of his remaining cases were too gruesome for television. While I was watching this I literally jumped in my chair and I was stunned and I couldn't finish watching it. I was so blindsided by this story that I experienced some chest pains (I frequently have those anyway when I am stressed). I don't have the courage or the stomach to finish watching the episode so I don't know how this ended but I did hear that one of these criminals has died. Good Riddance!! I now admire Kelsey Grammar more than I ever did before. I had no idea that this happened to his family. My heart goes out to them and I am praying for them. This tragedy happened years ago but I don't think you get over these things. I also appreciate Joe Kenda more than ever before. I thought I always knew the reason he became a police officer but until I saw this episode I really understand now. God bless anyone who had to deal with this horrible crime.

My heart breaks for him , his sister , their mother & grandmother. I saw this episode on Joe Kenda, I was one year old when this happened. Time never diminished his pain, you can see it in his eyes, that episode of Homicide Hunter was incredibly horrific & disturbing for many of us to watch...imagine Karen going thru that nightmare. All I could think of was please God I pray you were with her to bring her to Heaven & stop her pain asap. As a girl, that’s one of our biggest fears right there. And Karen dealt with not one but three animals taking turns raping her. One of the detectives on the show said any which way u can rape someone, they did that to her & that’s all he said he’ll say about that. It still horrified him , u could see it. I could barely take listening to it I cannot imagine that level of cold fear she had to have felt. Jesus..taken back to one of their nasty apartments, put into a bedroom & made to wait for each one to take their turn hurting you. Not one of those pieces of filth stopped for one second and said no, this is wrong. I hope each one of those animals burns in hell. One is left..tick tock you POS. I pray Kelsey finds full peace, I did hear his interview on here but still..he hurts & who wouldn’t? I would be heartbroken forever. My heart hurts for the Grammer family, I wouldn’t know how to deal with that. I cried watching that episode, how my heart hurts for Karen & Kelsey, my God. Evil, pure low down evil .

If originally they were given a death sentence and then later commuted to life, that's what it should be life with no parole. Many victim's families have to fight to keep these bum's in jail, and that's adding insult to injury. Letting out a criminal for good behavior is a travesty of justice.

If Jesus was real he wouldn’t have let that young girl suffer and be brutally murdered like that

@@jimmykray9583 a silly, surface level argument based on childish assumptions vs. actually seeking the One True God for answers to life's questions. The world is more complex than that. Any suffering we endure is less than nothing compared to the magnitude of glory that is about to be unveiled within us. Evil is in the world because of Satan and the evil decisions of humans who follow Satan and their own desires.

The comments here are drastically different than the ones left on the video of his abusive relationship. It’s hard to be one sided with Grammer. Dude dealt with some shit... :/

You never get over the death of a loved one (especially in circumstances where their life was violently and deliberately taken away). You do with the passage of time learn to adjust and adapt as best you can to life without them. But there will always be that void there. A void that only that person can fill. More than four decades have passed since his younger sister's brutal murder. He will always love and miss her for the rest of his life. He's left with memories of their time together and the heartache of dreams and hopes that were never realized and a life that might have been.........

His dad was murdered too, that’s why Kelsey was so protective of his sister - he had to protect her as their dad had been murdered.

According to the 9th season episode 18 of Homicide Hunter one of the murderers was arrested in New Orleans for some other crime and he got immuity from prosecution for testifing against his fellow murderers. Karen's co-worker got a good look at the faces of all 3 killers. I think the investigators should have put that guy in a photo lineup and after a positive ID they could have given him the good news and made a counter offer of 30 years instead of life. With his photo they probably could have gotten the IDs of the rest from the criminal investigators at the Colorado Springs Army Base.1975 was ages ago so I don't think such a deal would be made today.
