This video shows how to set up the Kelty Discovery 2 tent. I also review the Kelty Discovery 2 tent and talk about some of its features. The Kelty Discovery 2 tent is a solid tent, and it's super quick and easy to set up. Overall, I like the Kelty Discovery 2 tent, but if you're over 6' tall like me, it may not be the best fit for you.
If you have any questions, drop a comment and I'll reply to it.

Nice video, thanks. Did your girlfriend keep it? Does she like it?

Thanks! And yeah, she loved it, but we ended up returning both tents and decided to get a tent that would fit the two of us.

@@adrianofthewest Thanks. I am still undecided about getting it or not, but your video was good and provided me with some things to think about. I like how clearly you explain and show everything. Thanks again

I’ve been using this tent for myself in the Olympics in Washington State. I love it. Small footprint, easily packable. It’s always damp in the Olympics and I’ve always been comfortable…never wet (I’m about 6’ tall)…although I haven’t been out in a downpour yet. Zippers do catch just like you said, so I just go slow and easy. I always use a ground cloth as Kelty doesn’t make a footprint for this tent. I bought a $5 5x7 blue tarp from Walmart and fold the excess under so it doesn’t channel any water under me. I pack the poles on the outside of my pack, so you can really compress the tent down in the backpack it self. But yeah, I love it…and you can’t beat the price.

Real appreciate your detailed review brother! It definitely has a couple of setbacks but REI has it on sale for $39 right now. Might just go get one (I’m only 5’10”) 🤜🏼💥🤛🏼

Got a 100 dollar gift card from work just used it to buy this tent including shipping. Hope it's not too cheap or that my head will hit but I'm only 5-9. Plan on using it for harley camping. I wanted to get The REI tent in a tan cause I've had one for 25 years but the coating is peeling and it stinks. Tried to do a lifetime warranty on it but of course without a receipt they wouldn't do anything for me. So I decided to try this kelty. Hoping its enough to change and move around in comfortably. Colors are a little blingy for my taste but looks like it sets up very fast. Packs nice..

At 5' 9" you should be solid. I recommend getting a footprint for the tent (like a tarp or something) for an extra layer of protection underneath because the floor is not a strong material and seemed like it would tear easily. But that's not something against the tent; all the tents I've reviewed have been basically the same in this regard, except the Kodiak.

Can two people actually sleep in that tent? Both 5'7" and about 160lbs
@adrianofthewest

If both people sleep like mummies and don’t move all night, then yes. I really don’t know why they call this a two-person tent.

I ended up returning the tent, and I don’t remember if the poles were fiberglass or not. But it did come with poles.

I would say this a decent setup video but it is not a review! You mentioned that it was raining outside with snow on the ground. Why didn't you take the tent outside and review it? I did all this setup stuff in the REI store on the same tent. Sometimes you have to setup the tent outside in the wind and the rain and camp in it and see how it works! REI has relatively liberal return policies and they let you return merchandise up to a year ! I even taken out cheaper tents and set them up within Walmart and noone said anything to me about it!

Thanks! And yeah, I see your point. It would have been better to set it up outside in the rain/snow(actually would have been better to use it for 11 months then do a real review lol), but I was most concerned with the dims and setup, so inside was good enough for me. Despite the review not being as thorough as it could have been, I figured it would still help people learn about the tent who were assessing different options.

The rain fly itself fits securely and I think would do a good job, but it might not be a bad idea to get a rain fly that covers the whole tent top to bottom on all sides, especially given where you're going and how long you'll be there. I think the tent/fly as it comes would do the job, but if you're ok with the extra weight, taking a something larger would give you better protection from wind and rain. You will for sure want a footprint that is durable because the bottom of the tent will tear easily--not that it's a bad material, it just the consequence of saving weight/cost on the tent. Hope that helps!
