This is important: Antinous might have been señt to trained as a page, there is no indication that he was groomed to be a companion to the Emperor. Antinous ascend to the Emperor's side as his travel & hunting companion & friend was rather based on Antinous' abilities & merits as a hunter, to a large part by force of his personality. He did NOT become Hadrian's lover at age 13, but only became close to Hadrian when he was much older and nearly a young man - the tondo of the Arch of Antinous which depicts Antinous depict him as a young man. He was not the Emperor's buttboy, a minor who was a sexually exploited minor - please STOP making this wrongful assumption and spreading it. Modern Antinous worshippers are having serious problems with people who believe that Hadrian had "claimed" an underaged boy & that a perverse relationship ensued in which Antinous was the passive unquestioning minor victim. This emasculation of Antinous denies him individuality, competence & abilities & don't allow for the probability that he had offered friendship to Hadrian onban equittable basis & because he could even challenge Hadrian in hunting. The 13 year old exploited boy has no historical proof & is a dangerous perception & belief being used as a weapon to discredit modern Antinous worship. Please help eradicate & oppose this notion & allegation wherever you may encounter it. It will even be used to explain Antinous death as a desperate attempt to get away from an abusive & sexually exploiting Hadrian, see? Fight this on all fronts! Ave Antinoe.
