His fights with Ismael Laguna and Carlos Ortiz are CLASSICS , Buchanan was an excellent Boxer. Duran of course the best lightweight to step in to a ring.
I was a teen and watched the Duran fight on live TV. I've have a fair dollop of Scottish and got fired up with Buchanan's ring walk with all the bagpipes. Well that was the high point of Ken's night. Once the fight started Duran (yet to become an all time great) all but ran my man Buchanan out of the ring. I was so disappointed but over the years became a big Duran fan. And Ken was a very good boxer, so Duran's domination is all that more impressive.
Ken's achievements in winning and defending his titles across the pond mark him out as one of Britain's best of all time, so can is entitled to boast a bit, especially after a "few" drams. I a BBC Sport poll, they rated Kenny Britains' best post-war fighter, ahead of Lennox who was 2nd. It didn't include Hatton or Calzaghe, who were still active at the time, but I wouldn't put Hatton above Buchanan.
Lol !!!!Buchanan won two rounds....maybe...Way behind..10-2 plus a 10-8 for a knockdown. He got his arse kicked. From ring post to ring post. We counted over 100 head snapping right hands alone. Power punch stat rates that fight a massacre. The greatest Duran admirer in the boxing media...the late Gil Clancy....buchanan's cornerman. Buchanan was a truly great fighter..and a tough man. If he didn t lose to guts ishimatsu, he would have gotten his rematch..and another retirement beating.
Try the Alhambra Bar in Leith Walk (Edinburgh) any Friday / Saturday night and there's a fair chance you'll catch him, but don't get there too late as he usually ends up as in the video. Top boxer though and still looks in decent physical shape.
Duran wouldn't fight him again.... because how could they respect him after doing that? The 'punch' to the groin wasn't even a hard punch and I have seen way worse with fighters able to continue easily....he tried to find a way out and that was worth not giving him the rematch.
@BestCanKeanRob2 It was a low blow, but nobody knows that it was hard or not. Buchanan should have stayed on his feet and let the referee give him time to recover. But he went down, putting a good piece of acting together. He knew he was losing.. As of Duran, he has been a clean fighter in all of his over one hundred fights. He was a tough boxer, but never dirty. He was one of the best of all time, he did not need to be dirty to win his fights.
Don't talk such rubbish. Duran feared nobody. He was born fighting, and is considered one of the greatest with very good reason. Ken Buchanan was a decent boxer, but not a fighter.

the low blow by Duran was the ref's fault..not that Duran wasn't nasty, but the ref was out of position and tried to break the fighters at the bell by pulling Duran from behind, guiding Duran's punch south. btw, Buchanan was what we call here across the pond, a 'bad mofo',,,so tough and so skilled
Ken was a good boxer. But not a good fighter. His career was over the minute he stepped in the ring with Duran. He never recovered from that beating. He got the fight beat out of him. After all these years he still can’t tell the truth. He never wanted to fight Duran again
He was 5-6 rounds behind on all 3 referees,but I believe he made a mountain out of a mole hill.Why no REAL protest?--Bert Sugar reckoned it was faked(the injury)???...I AGREE. He WAS offered a rematch but it was in Panama and the fingers in the eye is mentioned on in Japan,Italy and noted by Duran that he was "unlucky" to get so many"accidents" of fingers in the eye! He is Scotlands greatest P4P but a reematch against Duran would not have gone the distance. Sad to see Ken turn out like this
Arguably the greatest British fighter of all time: I still rate Ken Buchanan as MANY TIMES GREATER than Joe Calzaghe. I rate Lennox Lewis in second place to Ken; and maybe in time Carl Froch will turn out as one of British boxing's greats. Froch reminds me of Roberto Duran (in terms of positive mental strength and fighting style).
