I know people have been asking you to react to other recent artists, but now that you have more knowledge in rap I think you should try to react to some classic albums that were landmarks to the hip hop game. I'm going to list some The Notorious B.I.G. - Ready to die 2 Pac - Me Against the World and All Eyez on Me Wu Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) N.W.A. - Straight Outta Compton Dr. Dre - The Chronic Mobb Deep - The Infamous Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory Big Pun - Capital Punishment Outkast - Aquemini, ATLiens and Stankonia The Fugees - The Score Mos Def - Black on Both Sides MF Doom - Mm.. Food Madvillian - Madvillainy Nas - Ilmatic, Stillmatic and It Was written Eminem - The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Matters LP and The Eminem Show Jay Z - Resonable Doubt, The black album and The Blueprint (Also 4:44 but that's recent) 50 Cent - Get rich or die trying Ja Rule - Pain is Love DMX - It's Dark and Hell is Hot Lil Wayne - All 3 "The Carter" but specially the last one Nelly - Country Grammar Common - Be The Game - The Documentary T.I - King Lupe Fiasco - Food and Liquor Btw, I think the artist that could surpass the experience you went with Kendrick is Kanye. From the College Dropout to the album released last year it's quite a journey to see how he morphed every single time. And also will help you understand why so many claims he's been so impactful to the rap game. It's something you should totally do.
@@bennybob4211 I don't recall him saying he's listenig to Kanye albums. I'm sure he knew about his hit songs, but not sure he actually listened to albums prior MBDTF
FEEL is literally MY FAV off the whole album but in terms of witch As a complete song is best its duckworth, fear then feel 4 me, but yea my FAV is def FEEL
I listen to Kendrick daily He’s hasn’t dropped anything new in 4 yrs and I’m getting more upset 😡😡 his new music is going to be a Classic and he’s just taking his sweet time.
Don't give too much weight to what Genius says. It's like Wikipedia. Sometimes it's great... Sometimes not so much. There is a lot in there that I don't agree with when it comes to interpretation.
@@robinvolpi I wouldn't go as far as to say "often", at least in my own experience and the songs I've looked up, but definitely miss the mark sometimes.
NAF1138 I mean music is very open to interpretation so I wouldn’t say that they’re WRONG but you can choose to agree or disagree. Wikipedia is strictly factual.
The "wickedness or weakness" theme goes throughout the entire album and it has major role in the album conceptually. Kendrick implores his listeners to determine whether his lifestyle and actions are a sign either wickedness or weakness. Also notice how every other track is rooted in his wickedness, meanwhile the every other track is rooted from his weakness. For instance: BLOOD., YAH., FEEL., PRIDE., LUST., XXX., GOD. are songs on the album which reveals his weakness. On the other hand, every other track aside from those are DNA., ELEMENT., LOYALTY., HUMBLE., LOVE., FEAR., DUCKWORTH., which are songs rooted in his wickedness. If you play the album from track 1-14 Kendrick dies from a gunshot on DUCKWORTH. because of his wickedness. As a result of Top Dawg shooting his father in the outcome of the story of DUCKWORTH., he would probably die young in a gunfight, presumably over something drug or gang related if you play the album from 14-1 Kendrick dies from a gunshot on BLOOD., because of his weakness. The blind woman in BLOOD. represents the consequences of disobeying God, which will result in death, which happens in this case because of Kendrick's wicked lifestyle. No matter if you play the album from 1-14, or 14-1, Kendrick will dies nonetheless. Kendrick gives the listeners the chance to choose if he dies from his wickedness or weakness. The album tells the story and two different characters: Wicked Kendrick and Weak Kendrick- "It was always me vs. me" The two can be seen on the album covers: on the front there's wicked Kendrick whose staring at fearless. while the back cover there's weak Kendrick whose afraid of us. (Wickedness story 1-14) is him being fearless boasting character who lives an empty life. He only cares about "making it look sexy" with the fancy cars and making money, so he searching for LOYALTY., LOVE. becomes a HUMBLE. man and start to FEAR. GOD. Turning into a weak character. Weak Kendrick is fearful, has a weak spirit, and feels abandoned by GOD. calls him on YAH. (Yahweh God's name in Hebrew) by his family and friends, and start to fall into LUST., On PRIDE. ("I can't fake HUMBLE. because your ass is insecure" is a key line) At the end he feels like a GOD. talking face to face with GOD. himself showing no FEAR., so he turns into wicked character. Interestingly, the original version of DAMN. was released on Good Friday, the day Jesus Christ died on the cross. The Collector’s Edition was released on the date of the Immaculate Conception, when Mary was conceived. The Conception mirrors a line on “DNA.”: I was born like this, since one like this, immaculate conception I transform like this, perform like this, was Yeshua new weapon ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2sNJHEGEZNs.html HUMBLE., DNA., ELEMENT., and LOYALTY. music videos are interwoven narrative about Kendrick Lamar's death. The whole weakness and wickedness theme isn’t exactly interchanging every two tracks, since LUST is actually from his wickedness, being a sinful emotion while LOVE is him opening up to his wife and being vulnerable.
JON! I know you said you aren't religious, but on your own time, just check "God" out again. It's the first verse coming from Kendrick to us, and the 2nd from Kendrick to someone trying to challenge him. Flip it, with all of his double entendres, the whole song changes to Kendrick boasting he knows what God feels like, while God comes in on the second verse to put him in his place. Thanks fo the reactions! Love em!
I highly recommend you consider adding *Cilvia Demo* to your list of album reviews. It's Isaiah Rashad's debut EP, and it was highly critically acclaimed. Rashad is part of TDE label, so you can be reassured that he is a quality artist. Shawn Cee even claimed it was his favorite album he's reacted to so far. Rashad has a unique flow and sound, using production heavily influenced by Southern rap and sprinkled with some West coast vibes. Cilvia Demo is a great overall cohesive project.
@@mr.bigweld8138 maybe but it sucks that 95 percent of the comments on here aren't even about the music he's listening to, it's all what other people want him to listen to. Like let the music sink in jesus christ
The first reaction video I saw was Mallory Bros’ Damn reaction as well and I fell in love with these videos 😭 I’m thankful for you and the rest of the great reaction channels for delivering great content consistently
We made it! Another great reaction. Given how you treated to Kendrick's catalog, I think you should do an Outkast season soon. I don't know how familiar your are with their music outside of the radio hits, but they go all over the place musically (and hardly have make a misstep with it) and their lyrics are almost always insanely dense.
so cool seeing how much you liked "FEEL" as this is one of my favorite tracks on the album and it didn't hit me how much I liked it until a couple listens in. the lyrics are just so good and the beat compliments Kendrick perfectly and it really just hits deep and creeps up on you how good it is.
@@jonahlossiah4513 I felt that way about KRIT for the longest time, but that album finally got me into his music. I think there's so much variety on it that there's bound to be an entry point somewhere.
Yes Jon! As usual you delivered the goods!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️ it’s been so great watching you react to Kendrick Lamar. I have been a massive fan of Kendrick’s stuff for a very very long time and it brings me so much joy watching you react to it all. I know they aren’t going to be requested as heavily as others but I think you would like Flatbush zombies : vacation in hell! If you get the chance give them a listen.
That’s a great list. I’d switch section 80 and uu but man looking at Kendrick’s discovery just listed out just proves how brilliant he is as a musician. Everything that man has made has been absolutely spectacular. When overly dedicated is at the bottom of a list like this you know you are hearing pure genius.

I'd recommend going back on your own time and rewatching the Big Quint and Mallory Bros reactions you mentioned in the beginning. I started watching reaction videos with DAMN as well, always puts a smile on my face whenever I go back and give those a watch
Lust, GOD, and XXX are my favorites off this album and near the top overall of any of his songs. For the reasons you described for LUST. Not the most lyrical, but I need more than just lyrics, and those songs have a great balance.
Hey JD! Loved the Kendrick Review series! You reacted pretty strongly to "LUST." musically, I would check out Outkast, specifically Stankonia and Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. I'm sure KL has drawn some of the inspiration from their sound in that song especially.
I feel as though part of what Kendrick did with this album was to show that he could make radio hits with the best of them like Drake, considering his older works weren’t exactly full of radio bangers (with some exceptions of course). So I think that’s the place that songs like loyalty and humble occupy
Actually the pioneers of hip hop reviews on youtube is Dead End Hip Hop they are experts on hip hop, veterans, and a very complex and funny group of guys
Another irony of XXX is that it features U2. And U2 is from Ireland which has a history of violence involving guns. Kendrick was wise to feature them in this song.
I feel like him putting LUST and LOVE right next to each other was intentional. I also think the musicality of both songs paint a picture: the distorted and chaotic beat of LUST show exactly how lust can feel. it’s ugly and can leave you confused and drained. however, the melodic and cleanliness of LOVE shows how love makes everything clear. It’s beautiful, peaceful, and harmonious. the two songs are meant to contrast each other.
Made it to the end those ads was crazy lol but this was a amazing ride I love album reviews cause some artist like kendrick have a full story also love mal bros yall should collab
Watching this reaction, i forgot that there were some differences between the CD version of the album vs. the Spotify version of the album (the commentary between the tracks and less "Kung FU Kenny" shout outs by Kid Capri on the CD version). Especially on that U2 track and no voice mails on the Fear track
Love your content Jon. As you guys are getting into more lyrical stuff, you’ve gotta do 2Pac season, more Jay-Z and Nas (especially) and my personal favorites, The Roots. Acoustic rap group that you especially would enjoy.
This was the first album that introduced me to the music review/ reaction channels. I think it’s about to get harder for everyone as far as copyright but the audience is there now. Like the new age radio djs. RU-vid so stupid for not building on reaction channels.
Loyalty is an important track because Rihanna manger who she was loyalty to for years stealing millions from her. Make you question who to trust and bring you back to your day ones. Connecting back to xxx and fear
LMAO, loved his reaction to FEEL. He went from saying it wasn't his favorite and a minute later it was. FEEL. Is easily one of Kenny's best and most underrated tracks, one of my favs as well.
Some albums I would love for you to react to are Wolf by Tyler the Creator, The Life of Pablo by kanye, and At Long Last ASAP by ASAP rocky. Love the reactions btw!
