The writing on pride is absolutely insane. That's the kind of writing that won him a Pulitzer no doubt. It's a perfect song in my opinion. Great video fellas
Blacker The Berry deserved perfect. One of the best rapping performances I’ve ever heard. Also, y’all should do tier lists of the track lists for each of his albums leading up to Mr. Morale.
Its because its in between the art of peer pressure, poetic justice, maad city and swimming pools, it just feels a little less in comparison. Still an absolute banger tho
Good kid is soo underrated, it's one of my favourites on GKMC, the beat sounds pretty much "oriental" idk how to explain it (basically it transcends me into a desert in Africa to be more specific), but it got stuck in my head for over a week after my first listen, the instrumental was very powerful for me, and Kendrick's "non-swearing" lyrics was also a nice touch for a song titled like this
Bro please explain, I really can’t stand this song because of the delivery can you tell me what I’m missing because I know this is one of this most beloved songs
@@50.CalFilms Kendrick is speaking to himself through the perspective of his family members on this track. Hard to explain but when saying loving you is complicated hes talking to himself. His crying delivery on the last verse gives me chills to this day.
@@50.CalFilms I don't get the song either. I like the screaming at the beginning, but in the second half I just wonder why he's pretending to cry. I guess I'll have to pay closer attention to the lyrics
@chillepalmerz Kendrick is mimicking being drunk, sobbing and slurring his words while talking to himself, and he talks about how his alcohol abuse has been an issue throughout the last two verses, but also asks himself if, without the alcohol, could he handle the deep struggles and suicidal thoughts he’s dealing with?
You can't compare every song for How Much a Dollar Cost as a bar for the perfect category, M.A.A.D. City and HMADC are perfect for different reasons, you can't just use one song as a bar for perfection for everything else.
I agree with Lou with maad city and bitch don’t kill my vibe… it’s hard to keep Kendrick’s songs outside of the perfect tier I would have put poetic justice in the amazing or perfect tier… that song is the reason I fell in love with Kendrick’s music
@@NFRPodcast I agree with almost everything y’all did! I would have put king kunta and swimming pools in the perfect tier but that’s probably all I would change… I would love to see videos like this for Kanye and j cole
My Top 10 Kendrick Lamar Songs 1. Sing About Me, I’m Dying Of Thirst 2. Wesley’s Theory 3. Alright 4. The Art Of Peer Pressure 5. m.A.A.d city 6. How Much A Dollar Cost 7. FEAR. 8. u 9. DUCKWORTH 10. Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe
the first Kendrick song i ever heard was Swimming Pools back when i was in high school and i remember telling a friend this guy was going to be one of the GOATs. been amazing to see how his career has progressed since then. also i think Swimming Pools (Extended Version) is perfect, might be biased
Lou’s absolutely right about those perfects especially maad city and bitch don’t kill my vibe there’s lots of people that like those way more than any of tpab
I think what you guys should try for your next tier list video, is both of you should make your own list, and then maybe have the audience vote on who’s makes more sense / agree with. That way you both don’t have to compromise placements, the discussion aspect of these videos is still there, and it makes it more interactive for us in a sense. Not to mention that you guys would still be executing this tier list styled content the same way you are now, it’d just be a little more elevated.
@@MyPimpinAfro14 I was listening to nas one day and I looked at the cover and I was like “wait nah there’s no way” and sure enough it’s the same “i”, like you said just a slightly different dot above the “i” but regardless still an homage to nas which is dope
@@schloopysef679 on the cover of Illmatic where it actually says the word “Illmatic” the white font highlights “ILL” and the i in there is the same “i” that kendrick was wearing from the rollout of TPAB and the “i” single. you can see it on the cover photo for the single. the dot is very slightly different but it’s an obvious homage to nas which is cool
I actually agree with Lu on some of these, if you continue to compare the songs to How Much a Dollar Cost then of course it's not on the same level simply because of the message or topic...
@@NFRPodcast At least like top 3 for sure. That song is probably the closest to flawless song in his discography, that's why I think it's not fair to compare it with every other song, because it wouldn't make a fair comparison (also totally different topics and they have different things going for them on top of that). For example I think DNA. is lyrically one of his best songs since the wordplay and double entendres on it are top notch, it was basically him asserting himself as a lyrical beast in the game, so comparing it to HMADC is not really fair as they are going for different things, one is telling a story and the other is just an impressive but sonically pleasing song, both songs are perfect because they execute what they were going for flawlessly.
@@NFRPodcast I appreciate the list tho cause it was still pretty solid ngl better than most people's list so keep it up, love the channel and I've been watching for a while, I'm happy you are getting more attention these days. Well deserved.
It’s one of Kendrick’s best written songs but I don’t feel I can put it on anytime or anywhere that’s why it’ll stay in my amazing column for me personally
@@beastyboy101bo I agree it doesn't have the replay value of many Kendrick songs but if we rank songs like that it's not really fair since the song itself is basically flawless...a lot of amazing songs of his are not that replayable, SAMIDOT may be one of the best written songs of all time but it doesn't have the best replay value, does that mean it should be put in amazing? I don't know at this point... 😮💨
Such a hard job to do, I applaud y’all. Just shows how great Kendrick is and how long his music will live on. Y’all should totally do this again but with Kendrick features!
I disagree with Lu on his “perfect” & “amazing” selections but only because there are gonna be at least 2-3 songs that are gonna be added to that tier after “mr. morale & the big steppers”
Wow.....Kendrick Does have some of the greatest hip hop songs and I believe the best Discography and this video just shows it! My top 5 songs by Kendrick based on lyrical Ability 1. Sing About me 2. Fear 3. Alright 4. How much a dollar Cost 5. Mortal Man
Sorry I didn't catch your names, but dude in the red sweatshirt I think approached this much better. If a song is perfect/amazing etc., that's what it is. Maad City and Blacker the Berry are very similar in quality, and while I also think Maad City is the better song, Blacker the Berry is a perfect song too, can't knock it for that. I think we can all agree though that Kendrick has an absolutely absurd catalog, and with the release of his last album, has cemented himself as a top 5 Rapper of All Time, regardless of what he does for the rest of his career going forward
I’m sorry I fw the list even with all the hard choices but untitled 3 is seriously underrated and deserves atleast a great rating.Him going through those stereotypes and the paths that each race thinks is the right way just is next level for that to be a scrapped song 💯
I love y'all guys content, I'm still watching the video as we speak, currently on LOYALTY but I want to see where y'all place Hiipower Great to know that there's people who still care about the music
Dope list guys Love how u included tracks of untitled Think U shuld have included: Black Boy Fly ,Compton , poe man's , Dreams , Mortal Man ,world N egatives and the heart part 2 some of his most overlooked tracks
I came to your channel over the Shorts, and really love the energy and knowledge you guys have. Soo i was starting the video with the following mind set, if "sing about me i'm dying of thirst" is not perfect i will no longer listen to your podcast. You made the right decision and luckily i can still enjoy your content. Keep it going, you will definetly grow to a big Channel.
I’d also put The Heart Part 5, Mother I Sober and United In Grief in PERFECT as well as The Blacker the Berry and I’d put Count Me Out and We Cry Together in AMAZING
Have you two ever made your own list and then compare and explain why what is placed where? I think that’s be a nice idea. Great video, keep it up. Can’t wait to hear y’all thoughts on the new one.
You can definitely tell he is an amazing artist when your having a hard time comparing his own work to itself. Blacker the berry should have been perfect tho.
You guys are correct. SAMDOT is the best Kendrick song hands down. Top 3 song I've ever heard. EDIT: Just heard the rest of the list. Ignorance is Bliss is Amazing tier at the least. So underrated. But still think you guys did a great job👍
I first heard kendrick when he dropped swimming pools But when I heard him on bitch don't kill my vibe remix I was a fan.. My top 5 kendrick songs Fear Poe man's dream I hate you Blow my high members only Sing about me Honorable mention : Feel
Boys, I think this video wasn’t very good. Coming from someone that always enjoys your content. Anthony was saying that “this song isn’t as perfect as this song, so it should go in amazing.” And Luca was saying “well the song is perfect though so it should obviously go in perfect, duh” So its not even that you guys were disagreeing, its that you guys were using different systems to actually rank where each track should go. It got me uninvested in the video as a whole. I’m sure next vid will be more organized and cohesive. Always loving the content, hope this can help
I think you guys did well! I would recommend diving deeper into untitled 08 I think it should be on the Amazing level. I also believe you left out 3 of his best written songs being Hood politics and Institutionalized which I would rate perfect and also Momma which is another Amazing song. I agreed with you guys on most of it!! Nice work 👍🏼
I strongly agree with the list. I’m just saying tho people sleep heavily on LOVE. I remember when DAMN. first dropped that song gave me chills and is still one of my all time favorite songs to this day
In the context of listening front to back, To Pimp a Butterfly is Perfect, Good Kid Maad City is amazing, & Damn is Great. Section 80 & untitled Unmastered are Good.
It’s all relative obviously, but this is Kendrick’s tier list. If you put these songs on a bracket with all songs most of these would be in the top 2 tiers.
Hol Up is a top 40 Kendrick song IMO…his mind state was literally up in the clouds as he says he wrote it while 30k feet in the air…the metaphors and lyrics are abstract but still worded them in a way where you can visualize the lyrics easily. “Tire mark gave you evidence that I'm easily peddlin' with the speed of a lightnin' bolt As a kid I killed two adults, I'm too advanced I live my twenties at two years old, the wiser man Truth be told, I'm like eighty-seven Wicked as eighty reverends in a pool of fire wit' devils holdin' hands From the distance, don't know which one is a Christian, damn Who can I trust in 2012? There's no one Not even myself, a Gemini screamin' for help, somebody”
The Heart Part 3 is so much better than part 4 the way they throw bars to each other is so amazing and the black hippy chemistry is perfect also part 2 Kendrick just flowing like a psycho
I agree with Mr. red hoodie on his perfect placements, I think they should be relative, I mean we arent music critics so judging a song based on if it has a message on par with some of his other perfect songs is stepping away from just rankings based on being fans. If it is a perfect banger, then its perfect, doesnt matter if the message is deep or not for us at least haha. Not to be an asshole but I think you should put name bars at the beginning of the video or just say your names at the beginning of the videos or at least mention the name of the podcast. I mean this video is great but I have no idea what your names or what this podcast is.
