Thanks for posting this. I had a different issue but needed to remove the top of my Kenmore gas stove. Like you, every video I saw kept telling me to release those darned, nonexistent clips!!! I kept thinking...there's GOT to be a simple way to do this. There was - I stopped looking for the nonexistent clips! Haha - thank you!!
I know this is a late comment but I hope you see it. This was an extremely helpful video. I’m helping a friend fix a stove with the same problem as yours. I’m pretty good with appliances but I’ve never taken one of these apart so it was really helpful to see where all the screws and tabs are. Thanks a lot!
I found your video VERY helpful, after watching many others that weren't. I had been gone for 3 weeks and when I returned, I had no click or flame on any of the burners or the oven. I could light the burners manually. The stove is 20 yrs old so I was prepared for replacement of something. This is a project my late husband would have done, so the good news for me was learning how to take everything apart. Your directions were very clear and I gave it a good cleaning as I went. My neighbor suggested unplugging it and letting it sit for a few hours before replacing anything. In my case, that was enough! I put it all back together and everything works. Thank you for the most excellent video. If something goes wrong again, I'll be more confident in troubleshooting!
thank you for making this video. I'm trying to work up the courage to fix my stove. Like you, I want to order the parts on Amazon but even that is undaunting because I live in Trinidad so the shipping is a lot. Also I need to get one of those bits to open the hexagon screw. Happy you did this.
Hi my name is Victor and I'm new to the new electric stoves. So I went to RU-vid to learn a bit of info on these new stoves, they are very unique to the old gas ones.your vedeo was quite impressive you did claim you are not a professional, but you should be proud of your abilities. Now I'm a great technician ,thanks to your very well made instructional vedeo on how to troubleshoot an electric stove! Thank you for your tip I even subscribed.
Best Video EVER....I found this video after watching a few others, but since your stove is almost like our rentals, I was able to go right down to my local appliance store, buy the spark module and replace it all by myself 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾It sparked right up on the 1st go around
Thank you for the great video. It’s just what I needed.. I followed your instructions and it took care of my problem. The only issue was a few screws on the burners where rusted and broke off. Burners work perfectly now. I had to order the igniter module from Parts Direct for $40.00 plus shipping.
Great presentation. I really enjoyed your pre job prep and your analysis of the problem. When I ever do a job it's an adventure. You didn't get bummed out when you tried the first burner test and it didn't lite. You just crossed your fingers closed it all up and hoped for the best. Nice call, you just needed the ground. Got just one burner not lighting on my stove. Once again, nice job. Dick Slakes
This helped a lot. Made for some bad news though lol. My girlfriend spilled a bunch of oil down the range top and I was hoping I could clean it but seeing it only being insulation i think I have a bigger job. Thank you though. Couldn’t figure out how it opened.
A good place for parts, especially for Kenmore, is Sears Parts Direct. I was able to get a spark module for my 25 year old Sears Kenmore range from them.
When fastening the top, the galvanized tabs go above the black painted edge of the top. Your screws only went into the tabs but the top is still loose. Also, the screws at the burners break very easily. I would put my gun on the lowest torque setting, or better yet, use hand nut drivers. Ask me how I know these things!😎
Good advice jbmando. When I was taqking the screws off, I was using the minimum pressure required out of my drill (pressing the trigger softly until the screw started turning); but you are correct that doing it by hand is a safer way.
You’re right those screws on the burners twist the heads right off my Kenmore that is only five years old I live alone second time I’ve ever taken them off head of the screw burner twisted right off now I’m stuck with the threads in the burner head the second screw came off but looks slightly bent your right to use a nut driver only on those!! Tnks. I’ll never touch it again and let it just be secured with the one screw it tight enough beans the threads of the other head are still holding it down tight.I can always replace the module or igniter I think without taking those burners off
Great video. But geez, what a pita just to get under the stove top! Imagine having to go through a task like this just to add a quart of oil to your car. Dang...
Subrata Djajaputra I entered the word “spark module” along with the model of my stove into google and amazon, and got results that were a good match, ad the part worked. If this is not what your problem was, please describe in more detail what your problem is.
My Whirlpool WFG515S0EW1 is almost identical to your Kenmore. It, too lights the front burners only intermittently. Replacing the spark module did not fix this problem. There appear to be at least two design flaws. Low spark voltage and too rich gas mixture at the front burners. It was genius of Whirlpool to rebadge these inexcusable Sears prototypes so that people would be fooled into purchasing them. Good one, Whirlpool!
So far, replacing the spark module has worked for me. It may be a cheap peice, but so far, aside from having to replace the spark module, the stove has worked for me (fingers crossed for the future longevity!).
Yes, all four of my burners would not ignite, and after some internet research, the spark module seemed the most likely culprit. I am not sure if a faulty spark module would disable only two igniters or not. I would definitely do some more research on the internet and see what you find. Good luck!
Hi, Robert. I am not sure what is turning off. Can you be more specific about your issue. Without any more information, I would guess the spark ignition switch (what connects to the knobs) would be bad. To answer your question, after I replaced the spark module, my burners worked fine without any other problems.
i watched this video.and in this video he change the spark module.and he only lite one burner .but you think he would of lite the other 3 burner .but he did not .who to say if the other 3 burner worked or not . but we don't know that .and he did not showed that in the video .i would of make sure that all 4 burner worked . 3/4/2020
I should have shown that, Leo, but did not think of it. I assure you all four burners worked after this video, and still do today. Thanks for the suggestion.
No. When I got mine, I think I googled the model number and "spark module" and then looked it up on amazon. The one I got has been working great since I installed in in this video. Good luck!
The oven and rear burners are on the same output as the front burners. The oven and rear burners light reliably so I figured all 5 loads were too much for the weak spark module to light off the front burners. My parts supplier advised that the spark module is the #1 cause of this symptom. Those were my two data points. My parts supplier sold me a spark module that was just as weak as the original Sears part. I have a workaround but I’m tired of pouring money into this inexcusable piece.
fheeman There’s a primary harness powering the spark module and individual wires going to each “Spark plug”. In the first case, a broken wire would take out the whole ignition system. In the second case, only one burner might be affected.
psmith85 channel Needs troubleshooting. Could be a broken connection or broken part. This is high voltage circuitry and will leave you seriously dead if you are not very careful. There’s a paper schematic taped to the back of the appliance. If it looks the slightest bit confusing, please re-fold it, put it back and call a good repair guy. Please be safe. -Len
The top still doesn’t come off you have the exact same fucking stove as I do and I’ve been screwed everything you did get it still won’t come off the screws I cannot absolutely cannot get to Kenmore needs to learn how to make a fucking stove
