This answers an eight year old 1977 me's decades long question of what Mego Steve Austin's internals actually looked like. I believe you surgically cutting into and patching back up the world's first bionic man makes you our real life Rudy. Cheers!
Thanks for this video. I am from México. And this is the only video in all youtube to repair this action figure and to look inside the mechanism. Congratulations!
This brings back memories! In 1977 or 1978, I recall disassembling mine to try to fix it....I probably used a butter knife from the kitchen drawer and a hammer (or was it a brick?) to crack that chest open. I faintly recall it not opening all the way so probably pliers or wire cutters or something equally inappropriate was used to finish the job. Then those arm pieces and springs and such fell out and got lost. Then, I think I got pissed and hurled what was left of poor Steve onto the driveway with all my might, then chucking everything into the trash can to get it out of my sight and to keep Dad from seeing what I’d done to my Christmas present from Santa. Then I think I cried because the Six Million Dollar Man was gone. Utter FAIL, LOL!!!
I think lots of old toys had a similar fate. I remember myself and a friend burning his Palitoy Death Star! The folly of youth but many happy memories.. Thank you.
PalOfToys, thanks! After watching your video, I realize I never stood a chance of getting it back together, much less fixing it. All those innards are familiar. When that stuff fell out and immediately got lost in the sofa cushions, it was all over for poor Colonel Steve Austin! BTW, I met Lee Majors at Comic Con about a year ago....handsome son of a gun....I can see why he was a star. I looked like Shreck standing next to that guy!
Lieutenant Miller Lee Majors is a legend! He always looked like a great specimen in the SMDM. I wonder what he thought of the figure. I'd guess that must be one of the highest selling toys of a character ever. Almost certainly at that scale.
I think all of us were rough on Steve Austin when we were kids. I stupidly gave mine away to a girl's kid brother to try and impress her, and she still wanted nothing to do with me. I should have kept it, especially since I found out how much it cost to purchase a used one on Ebay in decent shape. Kenner really should re-issue the whole line. We're all grown ups now with jobs, so we can buy our own and not rely on our parents!
@@mark_beastpriest5539 I’ve been hoping someone would reissue this toy line . Great toy line. I never had one as a kid but lived six million dollar man shows and toys. My neighbor friend had him was awesome. I’m 51 now and finally got my first Steve at 47 and still collecting.
Thank you for your comment at 3:45 - I'd forgotten his arm only works when his head is turned to the right. Thank you! We do indeed have the technology and that technology is RU-vid. Cheers!
Poor Steve, and all without an anaesthetic. I never had the urge to look inside mine when I had him as a child. I did repaint his hair once, but that’s the most I ever did to refurbish him. I’ve just started collecting the Six Million Dollar Man toys again, starting with a Bionic man, Critical Assignment Arms, back pack radio and Oscar Goldman. Need to get a Maskatron next and possibly a Bionic Woman as my Mum would never let me have one as a child as it was considered a girls toy.
