Kenny Barron - Body and Soul (live Jazz Festival in Marciac) Kenny Barron - piano David Sanchez - saxophones Darryl Hall - double-bass Jonathan Blake - drums Kenny Barron Jazz Festival in Marciac 2010
I'm glad I got to hear this rendition of one of my favorite songs. I have heard Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt, Chris Potter, Dexter Gordon and more. But I love this one too.
Kenny is my favorite "living" piano player - his phrasing is impeccable no matter who he is playing with - "KEEP ENJOYING THE SOUNDS OF JAZZ" (especially Kenny Barron)
David's soulful, sultry, smooth and silky playing, interspersed with subtle tempo changes, makes this a wonderful version of this tune..I wonder if this is an old Keilworth sax he's playing?
Music to make love to on an evening before closing time with a sultry wench you've been eyeing at the bar all evening. Doesn't get better when you've got this trio helping you unwind.
Go do yourself a favor and listen to the eternal Master himself, Barry Harris play this tune too. Kenny and Barry bring out such different colors from the same instrument and song, really worth checking out!
"GREAT COMMENT" - now that you mentioned it, Kenny Barron (my favorite living jazz piano player) does have Errol Garner-like influences in his playing at times - maybe that's why he is so great! - "KEEP ENJOYING THE SOUNDS OF JAZZ"
