Onya Alan. Love the backstories and so good to see Kenny getting dome airtime. He has some fabulous albums so please dig into them also. Cheers mate from Oz
Notes from the control booth: “Max, a little less Chinese New Year dragon parade, if you would.” You can dine out on that line for a while, I think, Allan. Another great episode on another terrific LP.
Great review - again. Your work is consistently entertaining, insightful, and educational. Can’t see why you aren’t getting more views! And, by the way, I agree with you on Max Roach’s style. Often over the top.
Great record! Interestingly, Coltrane’s tune “Like Sonny” is inspired by a melodic cell played by Rollins on the version of “My Old Flame” that is on this album.
There's also a wonderful mono remaster by the ubiquitous Kevin Gray, issued by New Land in 2023. A bit spendy perhaps, but it's a record that deserves to get this kind of attention.
@@mortofonperhaps a deal though when you see what early pressings go for. I found this one for $25 in a shop locally. A bit stunned when I looked it up!
@@TenMinuteRecordReviews The rule of thumb with OJCs seems to be, anything below OJC-150 is going to be all-analogue and a pretty safe bet for good sonics. After 150 in the series (usually with a barcode on the back), it's hit or miss.
