Apparently this song was dedicated to Kenny’s dad who was struggling with suicide at the time. Such a powerful song, a beautiful moment between father and son.
@@lauracat33 His dad was about to undergo surgery and this song was Kenny's wish for his dad to fight the cancer. He spoke of it this morning (5/22/22) on Sunday Morning.
This song was my song to my dad when he first got diagnosed with cancer. From the time he decided to fight it until the end when he couldn't fight it anymore and decided to enter hospice. He passed away Feb 8th with his children by his side, holding him. Miss him everyday.
Whether dedicated to Kenny's father or not, the song is not about cancer or alcoholism. If you read the lyrics and watch the original video, it's about a married woman having an affair and stringing a guy along. He's giving her an ultimatum. THIS IS IT. You're going no further, time to decide. It's him or me. Let your friends believe what they want. Leave him behind. First verse, "don't wait for some miracle"...Second verse, "Here's your miracle, it's ME, dummy". Perfect marriage of lyrics and music.
Still loving this awesome song in 2022, 43 years after it's debut. I LOVE Kenny Loggins' voice and his look. "You think that maybe it's over. Only if you want it to be." Michael McDonald co-writing and singing backing vocals further explains why the song is so great. 🔥 💛
This song is in my top 20 songs of ALL times, and I am a huge R&B fan. Those changes, violins and Michael McDonald background harmonies are tight as hell. Kenny and Michael are a hit making machine.
This song is pure MAGIC!!!! Best song Kenny ever did. Timeless. Michael McDonald's MAGICAL voice in the background makes this an all time classic & unforgettable song. Shoulda been a waaaaaay bigger hit. So underrated. Never get tired of it. Still sounds great 40 years after it came out. The 49ers played it b4 winning their 1st Super Bowl. Powerful song.
x0539p 🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️ Right HERE, I am. This song was used as part of a radio station commercial in Chicago, Q101. What a time that was, the memories & the music. And OF COURSE, Kenny Loggins 🙌👏
His dad was battling alcoholism like me. Fortunately he bounced back to a normal healthy life. Like me. Thank you Kenny for this uplifting song I love you so much

This reminds me of 1980 NCAA men's basketball tournament. The Louisville Cardinals were high flying that year. Before Houston had Phi Slamma Jamma Louisville had the Doctors of Dunk!...with Darrel Griffith! They were the first team to use athleticism on the defensive side of the court. They were pinning shots to the backboard! They also won the national championship that year. It's amazing how one song can generate so many memories...
Wow I was only 6yrs old but this was one of my very first sports memories along with the first 49ers superbowl and the Bird v Magic college hoops matchup.
This song has a very powerful message. Kenny Loggins wrote it for his father, who was discouraged and losing hope because of his serious illness. Even though the lyrics have a universal message, if you listen to it thinking of Kenny telling his father to fight for his life you may get a whole new appreciation for the song's urgency.
This song played in the store today, and I didn’t mean to, but I was dancing...didn’t even care! Love it. Now I’ve been listening to it off and on the rest of the evening.
The history of this song is Kenny wrote it to his father, when his father was diagnosed with the need for surgery and his father was adamantly refusing to get it. Kenny won the day though and his father's surgery was a success.
@@sheashea4622 Thanks you for following me and my page all this year's and for the support you've showered to me dear fan, I really appreciate it and I hope you never stop listening to my lyrics.... Where are you streaming from?
I didn't realize how versatile of a singer Kenny Loggins is. In Loggins and Messina he was more of a country/rock singer. On "This Is It" he's dabbling into funk and soul, and in the mid 80's he's was doing high octane pop rock. He was the soundtrack king in the 80's.
I’m listening to Kenny Loggins! This is a great song and his lyrics are timeless. Kirk Franklin made a great gospel song called The Fight of your Life from this song! Kenny has a great voice!!! I love this song!
You’ve been without your Mother for quite some time now. Because we never truly heal; my condolences for your loss. Small cells Lung cancer took my “Star” in 2003. Her death left a crater in my Soul! These songs transport me back to my childhood, where she was healthy, beautiful and filled with the promise of long-life. I miss her every second. To both of our Mothers; Rest In Peace🖤
I am sorry for your painful loss at the time. The music of our youth bookmarks key events with healing solace, soothing balm, and memories of the heart.
Kenny Loggin and Michael Macdonald sang this blockbuster song the lyrics was on the money because nobody knows what you know and knows what f the future holds THIS IS DEFINITELY IT !!! GOOD JOB WELL DONE !!! Richard and
Wow, where do I start, this song is absolutely awesome from the musicians to the instruments and lyrics. This was my anthem in the 80s. I played this song every morning reflecting on my life and my relationships with all wow praising God for providing all of us with love and talents to inspire others. I would love to hear a instrumental version of this Song. Thank you Loggins and McDonald for your imagination, creativity and inspiration and work you put in to make this song. This is it. 🙏🏾
Just watched the video of Kenny Loggins and Shanice that popped up in my recommended videos. I had to come and listen to this song. It’s always been one that touches my soul. Now I just want to listen and watch Kenny Loggins all night before I go to sleep🥰

Jeez this legend has made so many songs I like and I didn’t even know. I’m so happy my parents show me songs like this while I’m growing up with a lot of this crap on the radio. Okay that’s a little too harsh there are good songs from now.
I agree, however George is a spinto tenor and Kenny is a light lyric tenor, so they're physiologically and tonally quite different. I 'd imagine George took some influence from Kenny's vocal style though. Especially with the breathy whispery thing they both do.
Gran canción, una composición que fluye por diferentes cambios de intensidad, ritmos y melodías, un viaje dentro de una canción. Excelente interpretacion , una de mis favoritas.
