For sixteen seasons, Garfield's Nightmare stood as one of the most disliked dark rides of all time, with vocal fans calling for the return of the attraction's previous iteration: the Old Mill. Finally, Kennywood has partnered with local haunted attraction ScareHouse to bring the Old Mill back for a new generation, taking inspiration from the ride's 1990's incarnation: the Haunted Hideaway. Following the misadventures of a skeleton bandit named Harold, will this revamped attraction entertain everyone, or is it a letdown? Take a close look, as there's a lot you might miss on your first ride.

Thank you! We're thrilled to see that you picked up on the reference and intentions of our design and production work on this project, which meant a great deal to all of us at ScareHouse. As you noted, there were some limitations and post-design changes due to Covid19 and other factors - but Kennywood deserves considerable praise for maintaining their commitment to opening and operating this classic tribute to old school dark rides, even in the midst of a pandemic and the many other challenges presented in 2020. As usual, you did an outstanding job. I am always amazed at your extreme attention to detail and your knowledge of Kennywood history for being such a young guy. I could watch your videos all day. If I owned Kennywood, I would hire you specifically to make your Phantom's Revenge changes from your other video.

Great video man! I’ll miss Garfield’s Nightmare since that’s the version I grew up with but it’s cool to see these changes. Also loved the use of the Sonic Hero’s Soundtrack in the video as well. Good work man!

My thoughts are exactly the same, I still really do miss the outdoor sections as it made the original unique. But overall, I feel it is a really great ride, as the old mill of the 90s was my favorite ride in the park, and still would be today. Though I think the outdoor was scrapped beacuse of safety concerns or something with them blocking it off when they made Garfields nightmare. But honestly the ride looks great! Can't wait to ride it after the virus.

I kind of feel the same way. Even though it wasn't great, I spent a decent portion of my childhood riding it and I will miss it. That being said, I'm also happy to have this new version of the Haunted Hideaway back.

Great video man! Since they are going to continue adding more props to the ride, does anyone think they might add the giant spider from gold rusher? I know it's in ghostwood estates right now, but I think it would be awesome if it dropped towards people after the hallway with the spiders. That thing scared the shit out of me as a kid!

I believe that train front is the same one from The Gold Rusher. I saw a video on RU-vid where they used the big spider from The Gold Rusher on this new version of the ride, but i don't see it in these P.O.V. videos. The link to get in was in the front about 30 to 20 years ago, and not in the middle of it.

Some of my first memories of Kennywood are riding the Haunted Hideaway so it's nice to a return to form for one of the oldest rides in the park. I am however severally saddened by the loss of the Kangaroo, Bryan's Kurve, and the Paratrooper the two former especially because it makes nervous for other classic rides in the park like The Turtle for example.

8:35 Old Mill was the first dark ride I've ever ridden and it never scared me either, Old Mill was always meant to be one of Kennywood's tame dark rides.

Lovely video! I'm hoping to get out to Kennywood someday when the pandemic is over! I've never been much for dark rides (I've done probably one dark ride in my entire life lol), but I've heard a ton of secondhand hate for Garfield's Nightmare. Nevertheless, you've managed to make yet another interesting video about something I didn't realize I cared about until now! Thanks for the great content as always! Also, I've gotta ask - what OST is that very last song from? It's tickling something in the back of my memory, but I cannot for the life of me remember what it is. Either way, I dig it!

I do think the ride's intro video should say "Old Mill Presents..." before saying "Harold's Hideaway!" but I otherwise think the ride is fine the way it is.

Did you get to ride The Exterminator this year? Nearly all the effects have been fixed. I was actually scared riding it because I was thinking "who knows what else they fixed?"

The coyotes were never a part of the Old Mill from the past. They were always in Gold Rusher, then used as props for Phantom Fright Nights. I’m glad to see them being reused in the “new” Old Mill. The train is also the original from the Gold Rusher by the way. It too was used as part of the theming for Fright Nights as well as a decorative backdrop near the 3D theater for when they showed The Polar Express during Holiday Lights.

Do you think scarehouse and kennywood will change it out of the blacklight theme eventually and make it closer to the original with outdoor scenes? I know they were short on time because of Covid. I just wonder if they had another plan for this attraction but couldn’t do it because of time

On another note, I have not ridden this ride yet. While its definitely better than Garfield, I was expecting a bit more with technology. I would not say I am disappointed and admire the tributes but for some reason I was hoping for more/

Compared to the Old Mill I grew up with in the 90s, this is not as good. But It's 10,000% better than the Garfield ride. That thing was atrocious. Though I still think Gold Rusher and Le Cachot were better dark rides...
