Mr. Tatum has always been one of my favorite Kenpo Stylists to watch and learn from. I have seen Mr. Parker in action and that was impressive. I've seen Mr. Speakman compete with his Goju Ryu Katas and later his Kenpo Katas and it gave me chills but Mr. Tatum I never get tired of watching.

What's amazing about this? It's synchronized combat. How realistic is it to know your attacker is going to throw a 2 piece combo at you? It seems like majority of his videos are for scenarios where the defender knows what attack is coming. The instructor definitely knows and comes up with as much movement and bs as he can possibly make up..

@@uhohspaghettios9966 Correct-A-Mundo, Spaghetti-O. It is completely unrealistic that a violent aggressor is going to throw a punch from FIVE FEET away, while simultaneously stepping forward, and then leaving his punching arm extended with no retraction so that his opponent can retaliate with a tenstring combo. Back in the 80s before the UFC and before the internet, people fell for this crap because the teacher teaching it had so many pretty black belt degrees to “prove” his credibility. The traditional martial arts are loaded with this unrealistic garbage and are like a cult.

@@uhohspaghettios9966 Of course it is rehearsed. The purpose is to teach different rules and principals. Consider learning a language and you learn to put basic grammar together to form a sentence. In a foreign language you will learn different verbs in pre-formed sentences as examples and as you progress you build your own sentences as responses which may vary considerably from the ones you learned. These techniques represent those preformed sentences. Just as you wouldn't respond to a specific question with a standard preformed response so you wouldn't with a self defense move. There are so many what if scenarios in an actual fight. Criticize from a position of knowledge not lack of it.

Quite clear some people have no clue what they are talking about, too many keyboard warriors. Kenpo is taught in a number of phases, first phase is the ideal phase where you learn the technique under ideal circumstances, you learn and drill the technique until it becomes second nature, remember you have to learn to walk before you can run, you can learn a technique if the other person is jumping around the place. Next phase is the what if phase, after the technique is learned THEN you learn how to adapt it to a moving target what needs to be changed to suit your opponent/ environment, do you switch to another technique or move etc etc Final phase is you take the technique break it down take what you need from it or change it to suit you own needs. Too many idiots commenting without having a clue

Left alone the rake-rake nonsense, with 20 years in Okinawa Karate styles this is no proper use of the many mawashi uke/tora guchi applications. This would work on the outside of the arms. On the inside it's way to risky. It's a beginners version - but especially those should be tested and as watertight as possible. Most good techniques would work on the way back home from the eveningclass they were learned. Most of all the other phases our styles teach, are serving me as sensei - the enable me to be a teacher to my students quite longer.

Don’t UFC fighters shadow box, game plan, do situational drills like this?… Speaking as a martial artist and participating in Sport Jujutsu (this is what we did before MMA was legalized in NYS), we do these drills like situational drills (like this) for certain situations. Take wrestling for example, we did ALOT of situational drills. Example: You are anticipating on scoring a blast double leg, the opponent uses not only a sprawl but also a c-grip on the c-spine as well as a means to control and achieves the overbook to accomplish a half Nelson to side mount. From there, the fighter can drill awareness of BOTH bodies, drill circling and other scramble methods. MMA fighters do the same thing: The goal is score a O’ Goshi, retain side mount eventually transition to full mount, rack points and seek out Juji Gatame (arm bar) but they roll up into guard, next phase is maybe Sankaku Jime (triangle choke). Catch the drift? Hope this helped create insight!

Incase you never been inside of a dojo which is probably the case this is how you learn to execute different movements and work on combinations. They know this is not how a real attacker is gonna attack and announce his intentions. And he also isn't going to just stand there with his arm extended and frozen in the air either. This is just for training so you can learn how to fight more effectively instead of just brawling. How about not stating the obvious because it's common sense. Gets really annoying debating with fools and trolls like you because you just don't get it. Also I have a great suggestion. A teacher merely is a guide, and if what they teaches do not give you what you need then seek other instruction. The failure of most systems is why men like Ed Parker created the idea of his system. I further say that watch men like Lee Morrison in his Urban Combatives, on You tube, to see actual application. He trained in a number of traditional methods before learning applications while working as a door man in london. As far as the Gracies go, they are indeed knowledgeable, but they went through alot changes themselves over the years. Not every teacher in the martial arts are experienced in real life.
