I have been enjoying Kenpo Karate since the age of 20 and now that I just turned 75, the thrill of stepping into my own home gym and Karate Studio each day has kept me young and alert on the streets where the unbelievable quickness of Kenpo hand to hand fighting has saved my life twice against knife attacks. This is something I learned from my mother about street fighting that will alert you to what is about to happen as you are being sized up. She said that Satan walks up to you with a smile, it could be a woman or a man, they both are after the same thing, your life. In my first encounter with knives heading my way and the prime attacker smiling, her words flashed across my mind as I set my stance and never gave him the chance to push in with his knife because I had blinded him for life all within three seconds. I have enjoyed Mr. Tatum's knowledge for over 15 years.
@@MasterSly10 you have no idea dude! Kenpo Karate is the offensive form of Karate Do. It is for fighting and killing hand-to-hand style of martial arts! Back in the day when in Okinawa the people were allowed no weapons and no swords by the samurai rulers and their Shogun! This is where the bo staff, the quarter staff, the nunchaku, and the escrima sticks originated from! It is a form of fighting against swords with an open hand! That is literally the definition of Karate Do! And it is a very effective form of self-defense and attack! Just look at Conor McGregor, Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, and many other MMA fighters to this day use Karate Do stances! That's how effective they are and this shit is 100% real don't think it's not! Every block is a strike every strike is a block! Karate Do is over 2,000 years old and originated in China from Kung Fu as you can clearly see in the stances they use! Horse stance, twisting horse stance, cat stance, etc!!! They knew over 2,000 years ago that the triangle was the most solid shape in geometry in the universe, and this is where Jujitsu and Judo, and many others comes from, it's called Bushido! "The way of the warrior."
@@Michael-xp5mw I took Kempo spelled with an M, and was not always clear as to the original origins of this martial art, are you saying it started in China as Kung Fu but then was later picked up by the Okinawan's as a defense because of the banning of weapons? Do you know if Ed Parker added or changed the original art, I believe Tatum was trained by Parker?
Great video and the knowledge shared in this video is priceless if you can't understand it! Especially about synchronicity!!! Something you would hear Bruce Lee talk about, everyday!!!💯 Practice practice practice or your blocks and punches and kicks and footworks will never sound anything like what you heard in this video... And I do not mean that added sound effects they were pathetic! 🥋
Michael I'm a jka shotokan 4 Dan so I'm not biased when I tell u that this man, Larry Tatum is a 10th dan grandmaster today. He is a living legend. He is the most senior Kēnpo master alive today. He is infinitum brilliant. Look up a few of his videos on you tube. He moves like LIGHTNING and strikes like THUNDER
@@ajshaw2169 yes i think Ed Parker created this art on pieces of paper and in front of mirrors only, all only in his mind. With obedient attackers that's not too hard to do
@@MasterSly10 Gotta start somewhere. Blocks are good for beginners. Parries are better when you know more. Stance work is best but try teaching that to a beginner.
Raymond Daniels is a monster and he doesn't do a single one of these blocks in any of his glory fights. If the blocks work so well, why doesn't he do a single one of these? Bc they aren't practical. Hed break his hand/wrist blocking a kick. If he did a right inward block hed be wide open and get cracked
What if you’re attacker messes up your hair. I have practiced martial arts for 50 years. Sixty five strikes is bull shit. In the real world great hair styles and sixty defensive techniques leaves you on a slab. In the milli seconds you have in an attack your going to put thi bull shit into action ha ha.Grow up. 4th Dan wado Ryu In the real world.😊
