So grateful to these type of videos. I have a terrible memory and Brain fog issues so I get worried I will forget everything I learnt at hair school one day. So having these vids to brush up on so I know I am not forgetting things makes me happy. Thank you. I have not been doing hair daily like I used to so that’s what worries me as I have noticed I am starting to forget important things I learnt at cosmo school. Can you please keep making these kinds of vids 🙏 Tysm

@Jenny Stiles We don't have a 9NA, but you could always do 1/2 9N 1/2 9A and 20 volume. Or you could even try 1/2 9N 1/4 10SM 1/4 8SM and 20 volume for maximum warmth control.

The Demi color is recommended 1:2 mixing ratio for the enhancing, equalizing,toning and clear services. The reason for the 1:2 mixing ratio is our combination of direct and indirect pigments used in Kenra color, no ammonia, which makes it a deposit only Demi. The Kenra Demi gives you great pigment deposit with this mixing ratio. Please keep in mind the porosity, texture of the hair this Demi is being applied to. The 1:1 grey blending mixing ratio will give you maximum color deposit.

Also, if I am lowlighting, I was thinking I would use the permanent line with just 10 volume since I'm depositing only and not lifting. Is this correct? I know another stylist that uses 20 vol to deposit her lowlights, but to me, this strength of developer isn't necessary since there is no lift involved in lowlights. Any advice or suggestions?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 9 лет назад
Mrs O L Glad you enjoy our videos! Permanent with 10volume is a good choice. 20 volume may be selected in certain situations as well. Kenra Professional thank you for such a quick response! Also, if I am taking a client from a 5 to a 5rb, can I use 10vol? The video says 20, but I'm hesitant to use that strength risking exposing too much underlying pigment. Thank you!
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 9 лет назад
Mrs O L We would suggest 20volume with Kenra Color. Our developers are very gently formulated. Also, you typically won't be exposing underlying pigment unless you are lifting more than 2 levels. Hope that helps. Thanks!

@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 10 лет назад
hellocindee . Thanks for your question. The Kenra Color Natural series should be incorporated into all gray coverage formulations. For example, if your client is 25% gray, you would use 25% of our Natural series + 75% of your desired color. 1/4oz 5N+ 3/4oz 5B + 1oz Developer. Yes, process 40 minutes. Does the direct dye bleed onto highlights that were just put in ? With the red and browns? I've had problems with that in other lines in the past. Thank you!😁
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 3 года назад
We always recommend rinsing quickly and trying to isolate highlights that you don't want affected by direct dyes in the RR series. Our other shade families do not contain enough direct dyes to affect other pre-lightened hair that is being rinsed at the bowl and shampooed. Hope this helps!

Does the tonality of the existing hair matter when formulating? For example- person is a 4RB with no gray and wants to go to a 6NB. Do I just need to add 6NB + 6A to remove the red tones of the 4RB?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 2 года назад
Hi George! If the client's natural, virgin hair is 4RB, then yes, you can add some Ash or other cool shade families (ex: 6NA, 6NUA) to compensate for underlying pigment that may become visible in the lifting process-- as well as to negate warm tones in the natural hair. If her hair was previously colored with 4RB, lightener will be needed to lift multiple levels through previous artificial color. We hope that helps!

Hello I have a question, for demi permanent color for gray hair 1:1 is 25 min, does it matter the percentage on gray hair? does it still being 1:1?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 2 года назад
Hi there! For superior gray blending using demi-permanent color, we recommend using a 1:1 ratio with Kenra Color 9vol Activator. If you prefer a very soft or low impact blend, feel free to use a 1:2 ratio. Results may vary from client to client based on the texture, density, and porosity of that person's hair.

Excellent education. Thank you! I have a few questions: 1. What is the risk or using a developer that is too high for the hair? Say, there is regrowth and the client needs 2 levels of lift. However, the ends are still lighter than the roots. So if I use vol 30 on the whole head, would her ends appear different from regrowth on the roots? Does this mean I would need to separate and choose a different developer for different parts of the hair? 2. If we have level 3 dark hair and would like to lift it to a creative color, say a pink. What would the steps be to reduce the UP? Is there any difference we using dyes on pre-dyed hair versus virgin hair? Is there any chance of hair damage if the hair is already too light? TIA!

What if I use the hi lift 40 vol 1:1? Can you add boosters to the hi lift?? My client is a level 3/4, virgin hair, and wants a 7n. Can I just use color? 40, blue booster and 7??
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 2 года назад
Hi Angela! We recommend doing a test strand of 7SM with 40vol to see if it will provide the result you are looking for. We no longer make the High Lifts in this video and have replaced them with Simply Blonde Ultra Lifts. Those, like the High Lifts, are ideal for natural levels 6 and above at a 1:2 ratio. We hope this helps!

@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 5 лет назад
Hi Makayla, Here are some guidelines for levels of deposit or lift for Kenra Color: • 10 Volume - provides tone on tone or level on level deposit.* • 20 Volume - provides deposit going darker and grey coverage, in addition to 1 level of lift. * • 30 Volume - provides 2-3 levels of lift.* • 40 Volume - provides 3-4 levels of lift.* *based on texture, density and porosity

could you use a 7nb with those formulations instead of 7n and 7b separately and will it give you the complete gray coverage?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 8 лет назад
Hi, Natalia. Yes, you could, as long as you are incorporating the correct amount of 7N based on % of gray. (Example, client is 75% gray, you would need 75% 7N and 25% 7B.) Check out our color manual on www.kenracolor.com for the gray chart. Thanks!

@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 5 лет назад
Hi Tam! The color change you’re inquiring about will require a two-step color process. First, you must fill the mid lengths and ends. We might recommend using a demi-permanent formula with 5N and 9 Volume. After processing 25 minutes, shampoo and dry the hair to 100%. The second process will require two formulas. We might recommend 50% 4N and 50% 4R with 20 Volume. Don’t forget to process 40 minutes for grey coverage. We might recommend 4R and 20 Volume for the mid-lengths and ends, processing for 30 minutes. We hope these formula suggestions are helpful in creating your desired result.

What products would you recommend from this line to lift dark hair to a blonde under level 5natural? I have virgin, low porosity (normal porosity in the front of my head),medium-high density, type 4 coarse curly afro texture hair that is naturally jet black. I want to ombre my hair with my ends being a minimum level six blonde with no red undertones, do not mind orange undertones. I want keep my base color which is my natural hair colors the same. Only want to do this drastic hair change with professional hair products only and I think this line may possibly be the right one to try out. What do you recommend?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 9 лет назад
Hi,@Diva Natural Wuan. There are a couple of options that you can do. I am basing this on level 3 natural hair. If you want to get to a level 6, that would be 3 levels of lift, I would suggest using a 6A, which would neutralize warmth. If you need more neutralization, you could use 6AA. Another option would be to use our high lift series. I would suggest using the high lift ash, which is really meant for levels 5 or 6, but could be used on a dark level. Just keep in mind that there might be more warmth. This high lift series is mixed 1 to 2 (one part color to two part developer). Hope that helps! Let us know if you have other questions. Thanks.

How do I go from a level 5 with 25% grey to a level 7 ash? I have tried everything and it stays orange/gold?

@KenraProfessional 9 лет назад
Terri G Hi! I would try the following formulations: 0.5oz 7NA 1.5oz 7AA 2oz 30vol. 40min OR 0.5oz 7NA 1.5oz 7SM 2oz 30vol. 40min. If these formulations have been tried, you can always add Violet or Blue Booster to the formulation. However, I do not believe it should be needed since you are only lifting 2 levels and providing maximum neutralization using AA or SM. Let us know if you have questions. Thanks.

I am so sorry to ask again, for example, you have a client and she is a 4N and her DL is 7CG the formula is 2oz. 30vol\ 1oz. 7C and half oz. of copper and half oz. of gold for 30 min?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 2 года назад
Hello! No need for apologies; that's why we are here! For the record, Kenra Color 7CG was discontinued, but the look can still be achieved by combining tones from other shades families. For someone wanting to be 7CG from a level 4, you would need 3 levels of lift, and if their hair is fine to medium, 30vol would be the developer to use. The formulation would ultimately be .75oz 8G + .25oz 6C + 1 oz 30vol for 30 minutes. Hope this helps!

What formula would you recommend for a person with level 10 haircolour (it's more on the yellow side) wanting to go back to her natural colour of a level 8 without it looking orange, red, or yellow? She also likes the look of Taylor Swift's colour. (cool sandy blonde) Any help is greatly appreciated! This video was very helpful, by the way! I love using your line of products.

If the customer NL 3 grey 25-50%, DL is 8 GB , what is the formula for that and what peroxide should I use? As 20v is for cover grey, but it lift 5 level. Is that possible?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 8 лет назад
Hi. I would recommend the Simply Blonde Ultra Lift Natural, 1:2, + Simply Blonde 40 Volume. If after the Ultra Lift the hair is at least a level 8, I would recommend using Demi Permanent 8GB, 9 Volume, damp or dry hair, 1:2 for up to 25 minutes. If they hair only lifts to a level 7, I would then recommend Permanent 8GB + 20 Volume for 30 minutes on dry hair. Let us know if you have further questions. Thanks.

Can you please give me insight into how to utilize the Kenra color wheel? The one with the shade numbers (ex: 9N) and where they lie? Being new to Kenra and this color chart/wheel, how can I best utilize it for my Kenra color formulations, please? TIA!
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 5 лет назад
That's a great question! The color wheel provides a spectrum of shades from natural to dramatic. The Kenra Color level system ranges from 1-10 with 1 representing the darkest form of brown(black) and 10 representing the lightest(extra light blonde). The Kenra color wheel explains where a specific color level and shade lives, as well as the representation of pigment it will provide. For example, all colors with an N or the ones that are located in the inner brown circle, will have a perfect calibration of red, yellow, and blue(the primary colors). Depending on the level, there will be more or less of the primary colors to create that shade of brown. The colors located on the outer circle will have less of the three primary colors and more of a specific primary color in order to enhance that specific color series. For example, the RedRed series lives entirely in the red zone. The Gold series lives entirely in the yellow zone. Where you begin to find colors that are on the edge of color zones are typically more ash based. Think back to the underlying pigments within hair color. Between levels 4-6 you will see red-orange underlying pigments. Between levels 7-9, you will see more orange-gold underlying pigments. For any of the ash shades, you will see the perfect calibration of ash for that specific level. Meaning green-blue for natural red-orange levels and blue-violet for naturally orange-gold levels. For your specific example with 9N, you will see that it lives near the yellow zone. That means it has more of the yellow primary and less of the red or blue primary. However, it still contains a perfect calibration of the three primaries in order to create brown. Another example we'll use 4NUA, you will see that it lives near the blue-green zone. While this color has the perfect calibration of primary colors, it has a stronger influence of blue rather than red or yellow.
@gypsyviolin8685
@gypsyviolin8685 5 лет назад
@@KenraProfessional So, for instance; 7N is located under the yellow/gold zone, because those are the undertones in that level and that's what the N is balancing? Whereas the 7NB is located more under the yellow zone, because of the B - which would give it a warmer, golden tone, because of the brown (secondary tone?)
@gypsyviolin8685
@gypsyviolin8685 5 лет назад
And THANK YOU for this, it is very helpful. You guys are THE BEST! I love Kenra Professional!!
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 5 лет назад
@@gypsyviolin8685 You are on the right track! For a natural level 7, you will see more gold tones because of the natural underlying pigment. However, to be a true natural level 7 medium blonde, you will still have some red and blue pigments. Hence the reason 7N lives in the yellow-orange zone. The brown series has warm tones for levels 4-7 and beige tones for 8-10. When using NB, keep in mind the natural series is perfectly calibrated, so you'll have the appropriate amount of yellow, red, and blue pigments for that level in addition to the brown color pigments. When you combine N & B, your result will be a natural medium blonde color with an extra dose of warm gold in the reflection. 7NB lives within the yellow zone because of the extra yellow pigments.

Hi, I am new to Kenra color, switching from Wella. One of my go to colors in Wella has been the /71 series, which is a brown ash. I saw the Kenra conversion chart and it makes absolutely no sense to me for the conversion of this series! I have been racking my brain, and the best I can come up with in conversion would be to do a NA with a B or NB to make a /71. Would this work? What do you suggest? Any help and input is greatly appreciated. ANd....I am loving Kenra color, BTW! :)

Hi Melissa! Welcome to the Kenra Color family, we're so happy you're loving it! We recommend trying B (Brown) + Ash or B (Brown) + SM (Silver Metallic). If you're looking for gray coverage, we recommend NA (Natural Ash) or NUA (Natural Ultra Ash) + B(Brown). Please let us know if you have any other questions! Thank you!

wanting to use blue booster as the color on pre lightened hair how can i make more permanent?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 9 лет назад
Therese Betina Call You can use the blue booster alone with the appropriate developer. The hair must be pre-lightened to the lightest blonde, however the booster blue is a much darker pigment. If any underlying pigment is exposed, it will make the color even darker yet. We would recommend using Kenra Color Creatives on pre-lightened hair for a more vibrant result. Process for a full 20 minutes under heat for maximum longevity. Let us know if you have other questions. Thanks!

what toner can I use if I lift the hair and looks yellow? sv or pv?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 9 лет назад
+Silvia Morales That would depend on what you want the results to be. With the SV, it gives a lighter blonde, pale yellow look. The 9PV is more for a darker blonde. The VP toner is great for a beige blonde.

About the boosters: Kenra says color boosters can be used for "special effect" coloring on pre-lightened hair. I don't really know what this means. What would the Kenra Violet Booster + Developer do to medium brown hair (my lightened hair color)?
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 9 лет назад
+Christine Nguyen Special effects color would be similar to what a creative color would do...i.e: using 1oz Violet Booster + 1oz Developer on pre-lightened hair would create a violet shade. Using the booster within a formulation increases that particular shade within the formula, i.e: 1oz 6C + 1/4oz Copper Booster + 1oz Developer. The Copper Booster will intensify the copper tone. If you are looking for an intense purple shade, we recommend pre-lightening your medium brown hair further.

+Kenra Professional What effect, if any, would a 1:1 booster developer mix have on level? I just used 8SM with some violet booster. The red in the violet covered up a green tinge from past semi-permanent color use. The red in the violet did a lovely job of covering up the green, leaving a steely blue silver. It's lovely, but now I'd like to up the violet. I'm trying to decide if another application of 8SM with increased violet booster or an application of just violet booster would be better. Very little info is out there on the "special effect" of a booster and developer straight application referenced in the Kenra Color Manual, so any insight would be fantastic!
@KenraProfessional
@KenraProfessional 9 лет назад
+Kate Collins I would recommend using the 8SM and adding more violet booster. The boosters alone would likely be too dark for what you are looking for. (1:1 they create special effects hair similar to a fashion/vivid color.)
