The Shek are my favorite race by far, I love their philosophy so much. In my first Kenshi playthrough, I settled in crab territory and I started to get shredded by the daily waves of crab tournament. At some point, I sent all my remaining people on a last assault to destroy my ennemies as I would’ve been wiped anyway over time. This was the last march. DESTROY THOSE WHO OPPOSE YOU OR DIE TRYING
I believe its also worth noting that the Shek have no established agriculture due to non-fighting jobs not being in their mainstream To supply the kingdom with food the shek can rely on 3 things, hunting, raiding, and trading Hunting is a dangerous thing to rely on solely as they can end up killing off the their local animal population(since ranching is also not something they are shown to do) They are at peace with the UC so they likely trade with them and raiding is also done by them as they will demand the player faction pays a food tribute if their outpost is in SK territory
The age old "what do they eat" question. Rarely has a good answer, perhaps some illicit trading of agricultural is being done through squin by the traders guild?
I think the shek were trading and getting tributes from the western hive for far longer than the Sone Golems reign due to there being no ruined hive villages. They could have been giving the shek meat as tribute and considering the western hives size, and beak thing population it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to say the western hive is doing a significant amount of hunting for the shek Kingdom.
Gnue... I believe rhe Shek were first created to bolister the Skeleton Army trying to hold back the Cannibal incerson and later also used as a policing force. Watched, Scribed and 👍 Liked
I always imagined Kenshi being a space colony by the high tech human civilisation of the planet that can be seen at night, abandoned dozens of millenia ago. Some colonists failed or refused to evacuate and built what would become the "first Empire" with the help of AI driven robots over centuries, at some point something went wrong, probably a civil war and in it's aftermath we got a moon wide ban on behemoths which led to Obedience. This ticked off the AI and Cat-Lon started his uprising trying to virus bomb the humans, Stobe saved them, Cat-Lon saw reason and founded the "second Empire" tolerating humans but putting the Skeletons in charge. The Cannibal wars happened and, having lost the means to produce new robots, they augmented some humans into Enforcers and others into Labourers. It all went to hell again thanks to the Holy Nation and the augmented humans de- or evolved into the Shek and Hivers over another couple millenia.
