Good stock footage - must have been used by Monty Berman or others on the likes of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) which has some filming in similar areas
The internet and globalisation has killed the independent retailer, for better or worse. But London was grimy in its own way then also, and was riddled with bomb damage.
The film doesnt really show the underground station , and I was trying to remember the department stores of the area, Derry and Toms used to get mentioned by Agatha Christie's Miss Marple, and Barkers of Kensington existed until some time later, but there was another that escapes me for the moment.
1953 this was the queens coronation year, I wonder if this was practice for external filming of the expected upcoming events (but would have to be before may and this appears to be more summer). the red of the London Buses at first sight appears too dark, but i feel the colour of the buses as it appears in sunlight has changed with pigment and contents changes - not that I was around to see them in reality but even in the 60s London Buses seemed a little darker - maybe because for a while the grey/white/cream relief band was narrow, or on some , non-existant.
@@TheUndergroundMap A lot of stills colour is a bit more washed out, obviously prints from transparancies or negatives can be adjusted, film unless really scaled in digitial is as you see it.
Not many people owned cars and these cars are expensive ones. They were very comfortable but much less reliable than cars today. You could park almost anywhere. I was a child at the time and remember how crotchety people could be. The van driver’s attitude to the camera is typical.
