My son goes to BAMA. Nate Oates has it great. It’s beautiful, college town, there’s no winter and he’s one of the highest paid coaches in college basketball. I’d love him at KY but I’m happy there are still some who are loyal and won’t leave for piles of money. Proud of Oates.
Beautiful, no winter...someone lied to you 🤣🤣🤣 I've lived in Tuscaloosa, these are all lies lol. You're crazy if you think Oats wouldn't leave bama for a prestigious job like UK.
@@naturallaw3333he already said no dipshit. Bama is about to build a new arena , hes paid top 5 money, his family loves there. Stop being an uppity ass, Lexington isn't any better
Billy is my first pick, but there are logistical problems. He won't bring players with him like a college coach. We have to wait at least a week to get him, and the portal closes early May. He could arrive without enough time to put together a team before Summer.
Breaking: my neighbor has a 2nd cousin who lives in Chicago and he knows a guy that works on the garbage truck that picks up Billy Donovan's garbage. This morning Billy's garbage included a bag full of Bulls coaching shirts and sweats. This obviously points to Billy Donovan making room for new UK coaching attire.
Hey I love Cal & used to live in Osceola Ark but am originally from Ky , huge Ky fan .! It was time , I hate to say but on the other side he will do well at Arkansas I think . Definitely thrust excitement into yalls bball program ! It will b exciting & I love Cal however , if u r a real bball fan , it is gonna drive u NUTS with the in game adjustments or lack there of (NONE actually ) easiest coach to prepare for , doesn’t play anything but man to man defense & runs absolutely NO sets on offense .! If u don’t have players that can play one on one bball , u will b highly disappointed . Will y’all win games , of course u will especially during regular season but when it gets to tournament settings & precise game planning & attacking other teams weaknesses , there is NONE of that & like I said “if” u know the game of bball, u will b highly aggravated that u will most likely come out on the losing end against teams with a good X & O coach with decent talent ! He will have on paper the more talented players & teams but good coaching beats him EVERY time & it got to a point where Ky fans NEVER felt confident going into big time games even if we had superior talent because ultimately we ALWAYS felt like we were gonna b outcoached & lose at the end of big time games .! Don’t get me wrong , have a ton of great memories & great players but unfortunately the past doesn’t win college basketball games .! But there will b energy in your bball program now & I know Hog fans miss those 90s years with the excitement Nolan had & talent , Cal will give y’all that but winning when it matters will b very hard this day n age in college bball for Cal . Talent don’t always win out like it used to . Things have changed but with all that said , I’ll root for Cal & the Hogs except when y’all play Ky . Y’all got at very minimum a fun next 4/5 years & that’s about it , Cal won’t coach past 70 I wouldn’t think .. Good luck
Billy Donovan once being an assistant coach at UK, been in Chicago for the past 9 years or so, I'm sure he and his family would love the idea of moving back to the small town life, and he will also keep Kentucky recruiting at a high level.
Kentucky fan Billy D, would be my first pick. He’s one of 3 that could hit the ground running! If not be ruff next 3-4 years! 1/2 our fans won’t be happy until we become another Indiana!!!
It'll be a rough couple years, whoever you get is gonna get fired because he's not going to be able to implement anything! It's going to take awhile to get players and to integrate them into his system and you fans have no patience for that. UNC fans have been just as bad with Hubert Davis, but we have more people who support him than those who don't. UK fans won't understand that recruiting isn't just a magic wand and changing a coach isn't an insta-cure.
Jay Wright would go back to Villanova or maybe 76ers/knicks before he would ever consider Kentucky Job. Think about why he retired? He doesn't like NIL/transfer portal paradigm - He's a Philly/Jersey Shore guy...loyal to his family roots...not going to Kentucky.
I think there is a personality component for wildcats fans, that seems to be just as important as being a great coach. For what it's worth, I hope Drew would be smart enough to turn down the offer.
Bruce Pearl, Chris Beard, Nate Oats, Billy Donovan, and Jay Wright all said NO 2 The UK job as well. Does anyone else notice the trend here? Smh. It's not about the money, it's about this culture. UK fans are spoiled from winning. Other coaches saw how Cal got handled, good or bad they all saw it!
You do understand NIL and Free Transfers killed his schtick right? So, all those 5 out of the top 10 freshmen were great at one point, then when teams could shore up needs with free transfers, that put him behind the 8-ball. Bama brings in Nelson and Estrada, in past years instead of going 13-5 they would have fallen to like 9-9. He never learned that the transfer of upper classman were more important than one and done freshmen. Also, UK, Kansas, UNC, we know were using the AAU to back door pay players, its just a fact, now with NIL, those days are over. I think hes a bad coach who knew how to game the system.
Yeah he loved watching that NBA contract money from his draftees go up, just so he could tell us (over and over) how much money "he" has made these kids. When in reality he just babysitted these kids for 6 months that were going to the NBA no matter where the hell they went... Meanwhile every one else is improving.
If Rick Pitino would just call Billy Donavan as his mentor, I think that’s all it would take for him to come to Kentucky. Put John Pelphry on the coaching staff.
Nat has already said, he's staying at Alabama. I listened to a couple of Chicago Bulls podcast and they are acting like it's a done deal that Donovan is going to UK because he was most likely, not going to be the coach of the Bulls anyway. The stars at Chicago apparently, want him gone or to be traded.
Billy Donovan isn’t the guy. College basketball vastly different since his hay day. Need an active college coach so we actually have a team next season
I think Billy D would be well suited for the new NIL era. Having GM/coaching experience in the NBA could perhaps transition to UK, with their financial dedication to building a championship program. If he hire assistants that can coach and recruit, it’s a win situation for both parties.
Money isn’t the primary driver for Hurley. He and his family are very satisfied at UConn and being in the northeast. He’s not a southerner, nor does he want to be. Family is his primary motivator.
Give Billy Donovan 10 million a year, give his assistants 5 million a year. We are Kentucky, we can afford it and failure is not an option. The last 5 years have been so terrible that I’ve had to quit watching to maintain my sanity.
@@jackharrington697 Man, idk what you are talking about with this one..Cal has won 1 tournament game since 2019. It's been half a decade since he's had any sort of tournament success.
“Entitled”…that is a good name to describe a blue blood squad that has 8 National titles! I really like that Jack I might have some tshirts made up, I appreciate that! 😎👍
If Kentucky hires Drew i will never watch another game and I've been a wildcat fan for almost 40 years. Our fans and Barnhart made a huge mistake in running Cal outta Lexington. Wait and see
Ill tell you this, as a business owner and part of a community that supports this team. We will not support this team moving forward, as businesses owners, if Scott Drew, or Mark Few, or Smart or any other diversity hire! The media needs to quit trying to hire our next coach and skew the field. We can all read a stat line. Few or Drew are not built for the sec. Our money leans toward Beard or Wade. These guys are in touch with the sec climate.
Stories that I've heard is Cal went to AZ to talk about who they should hire, and they mentioned him. So there you go with that story to cover his a$$ets for leaving. He went to AZ to interview for the job period just trying not to lose his money. From KY been a fan except for the past couple of years because of CAL. He needed to go. He was not into it anymore and not doing his job. Would be surprise if UK gets hit with recruiting violations since thats how Coach CAL works.
Otzelberger, 47yrs old, good family, great in the community, and man can he coach defence. Every possession, players actually block out on rebounds. Does a great job in the Big 12. He's making probably 3 mil a yr but iowa st has a hefty buyout. He's a good recruiter too without having to be a bs artist!
The NBA is now more of a grind, you play 36 games on the road, in college you play 50% of conference games on the road, so 8-9, a few pre conference, and a few at a place like Hawaii et al. so, 10-12 games a year, most are regional, not cross country flights. Then you have the old problem of recruiting, its not near as tough now, (never was a tough as football via the sheer numbers needed) you can just promise a nice package and more tan likely get your man, if he's interested at all.
I like Cal, but dude's one 1 title as a HC in his entire LIFE!!! If you couldn't get at least 2 outta those kids he had at Kentucky, year in and out, that screams overrated.
I’d take Pearl 100%!! Would KILL IT at Ky !! Has the personality for that chair 100% !! Would love to have him ! Absolutely do NOT want Scott Drew !!!!!! HELL NO !! That is a boring hire , Ky fans don’t need or want that imo!! Almost as boring as Tony Bennett from Virginia ! I would NEVER want either of those 2 as Ky’s coach PERIOD !! I’ll take Donovan , think he could adapt to the way college is now since basically it’s professional pay for play on a slightly lesser degree than the pros . U want a player , pay em & go get em so yeah I think Billy D could adapt & do well so him or Pearl is my picks HOWEVER , I don’t believe there is a list of coaches on Barnharts mind whatsoever ! I think he will not contact any other coach except for his “yes man” Scott Drew & it’s a MISTAKE imo .! I believe that’s who he wants & I believe Drew will jump at the opportunity & that will b that & it will b a sad day to b a Ky fan ,, again imo, just how I feel about it 🤷♂️💯
Billy D or Ricky P they both have NBA contacts which might keep some of the players from jumping off the sinking ship anything else will be a 2-3 yr rebuild
Holy shit Torres went full autistic trying to get his words out. I dont think I understood half of what he said and the stuff i did, he contradicted 30 seconds later. Like he Donovan is immerging as the leader, then he says 30 seconds later "But it's a longshot". Dude enough with the word salad and trying to act like you have all the inside info and knew what was right from the beginning when youre just speculating like everyone else
Do you not know Nate Oats could bring his whole roster with him to any school with the way the transfer portal is now days so saying he would have to start over like he couldn't bring at least some of his team is crazy
0:45 Comon Arron you think Billy D wants any part of this mess at UK you know better bruh if a hall of fame coach takes 500 thousand less to coach another school thats gota be red flag dont it
Why shouldn’t Scott Drew be a top the list? He has a national title Nate Oats does not. Dan Hurley already said no. Jay Wright is retired. Scott Drew should be 1. Nate Oats should be 2.
Rajon Rondo would be an out of the box hire!! He's already been mentoring and training with the alumni and other players in AAU, so relationships are in place.
@palmerdahman Well he's kinda out of the Billy Gillespie coaching tree that likes to be physical and grind you out blue collar attitude which didn't really work when Billie Gillespie was at Kentucky
I'd take Buzz Williams for sure! He outcoached Cal twice this last season and took his team much further than they probably should have went with the talent level they had.
Scott Drew will be the next coach. I’m a Kentucky fan. We are rough on coaches let’s be honest. This is a great job but it’s more than coaching. Scott has a great relationship with Mitch and that will play a major part because Cal and Mitch did NOT like each other
Don’t forget, Billy Donovan has been OUT of CBB for YEARS since leaving Florida. Is he even going to want to understand and handle how the CBB runs right now? Bc just bc you get offered 10 million dollars, DOESN’T MEAN that a coach will already accept it, they have to understand how the CBB game runs NOW. Kentucky fans need to CALM DOWN, bc what if Billy D doesn’t work out?
