I found 6050 Kenwood Beside the garbage at the curb (And repaired it) It's better than anything else I ever owned and I loved it Vintage Kenwood is so nice , you have to see it to understand, it sounds phenomenal and is a joy to own .

Friend of mine gave me a Realistic STA-2000 1977/78 Model, 4 channels 75 watts/channel. It works mint, sounds really crisp. For space I run 4 Kenwood KS-303HT's 8 0hm 80 watts/speakers..

DeoxIT sprayed into the levers and dials before putting the faceplate back on?

Thanks for the helpful video. It seems likely that the material of the external faceplate (which you described as cleaning with soap and water) and the internal faceplate (which you clean with window cleaner and tissue paper) are made of the same materials, and also that any printed information (letters, numbers, tick marks. etc.) on the two faceplates are of the same material. If that is correct, why do you choose the different cleaning methods (hot soapy water and window cleaner)? I can understand the need for care in avoiding getting water on the internals; but if window cleaner is adequate/preferred, why not use that on both surfaces?

I'm afraid of using cleaners on the face plate. One time I used window cleaner and some of the letters came off. I did not wipe hard. I also use a soft brush to clean with. It gets into the corners good. I have a mint Pioneer rt 909 reel to reel deck. It has some finger prints on the face plate but I'm not sure what to use to clean it without the letters coming off I really enjoy your videos. Have a great day

Thank you for posting this. Very helpful indeed. Can one use any other chemicals on the faceplate to make it shine even more? Or would you recommend sticking with soap and water? Obviously I don’t want to risk removing any of the lettering. Lastly, I suppose there isn’t much one can do about scratches I guess.

Very informative video! However I own the KR 8050! On the back where you remove the four screws, I only have one, located in the center! The two end brackets have no screws, they are just complacent! Any advice on how to maneuver the top so I can remove it? I’m afraid of doing anything wrong! Please respond, I need your help!

Your best bet is to find a SERVICE manual online. If you can't do that, use basic tools and common sense. You should rarely have to really force anything. If you are a little "iffy" then STOP and reevaluate the situation. In my experience, if I can't figure something out on one of these then I'm almost always over thinking it.

Near the end- @ 9:52 & 9:58- you said you had to de-oxit the volume button and clean the spot meter... what does that do, where is the spot meter and what does the cleaning of it do? Eliminate static when you turn the volume knob? Thanks.
@vintagestereo
@vintagestereo 7 лет назад
a potmeter ore a potentiometer, informally a pot, is a three-terminal resistor with a sliding or rotating contact that forms an adjustable voltage divider....just the thing behind the volumeknob, just google and you see a picture. ti remove the cracking sound when you turn the volume/bass/treble/balance knobs you have to spray the potmeters behind them to take away the cracking sound. What receiver do you have?
@ellesnyder942
@ellesnyder942 7 лет назад
a kenwood kr-5010. i just found a video on using deoxit and it showed the pots being cleaned. maybe that will fix it up. will be cleaning it like you showed too. Thanks.

Does anyone know how to remove scratches from the face of the ridged aluminum knobs ?
@03taru
@03taru 3 года назад
Use wet sand paper and start with 400 grit, then go to 600 and finally 1000. That process takes a lot of time... And patience!
