Just a quick little video showing off how easily a Panadaptor / second rx can be added to the Kenwood TS-590SG, using the SDRPlay RSP2. 73, Jarrad VK3BL
Hello, I could use some help. I have a Kenwood 590 and an ACOM 700S amp. I need the correct control cable that will key my amp. I'm guessing I can make one. The ACOM amp has an RCA input that says KEY. What connector do I need on the other end to connect to my Kenwood 590? Thank you much. Mel
This is from the TS-590SG manual when using the DRV output "the receive sensitivity and gain decreases by approximately 3 dB." what would that be in S-points on the RX.
One S point is supposed to be 6db so half is the correct answer, but no manufacturer sticks to the standard and it can even vary with where you are in the range. 3dB from splitting is not worth worrying about as the SNR won’t change and the RX is more than sensitive enough. 73, Jarrad VK3BL
Hi Jarrad (or anyone else reading this), do you know of any other transceivers that have a similar, easy to connect, "DRV" for an SDR as the 590sg? 73 Adrian EI9HAB
@@johnratcliffe6438 You're quite welcome. I use an almost identical setup as depicted here. A couple of notes: 1) If all you're looking for is a panadapter you can use a $24 USB dongle in place of an SDRPlay. If you're looking for a secondary receiver get an SDRPlay or AirSpy. 2) There is better software than SDRUno for doing a panadapter, namely Simon Browne's excellent SDR-Console 3) If you do anything with amateur radio satellites, where you have to have full-duplex (hearing your own signal coming down from the bird in real time) then a decent $100-200 SDR is your best friend. No need to pop for an IC-9100, 910 or an IC-9700. Just get an AirSpy to use as a receiver and let the software sync up your RX/TX and... you're good to go. Whatever you're going to do with all this, enjoy. // Karl, KD9LTQ
@@KarlKrogmann Amazing reply, thanks for taking the time. I'm a new UK operator, and would like to add panadapter functionality to a Kenwood TS590SG. I will look into SDR Console. Thanks again!
I need a friend opinion, I like to do SSB phone contest, I am in doubt to buy a KENWOOD TS 590 SG or ICOM IC 7300 ... can you help me which is the best choice ?? 73
My experience with the dongle panadadapter's> Do they work = Yes Do they work well = No A true SDR transceiver will far outperform these solutions, the difference is pretty huge.
