from what we know so far, natlan is a region that mixes africa, america and oceania. as "the land of war", the central (unifying) theme is something like 'the constant fight to defent their land against foreign forces that threaten to destroy everything'

Foreign forces = Abyss
@Yvonne-Bella
@Yvonne-Bella Месяц назад
@@samirSchI never thought about those similarities to colonialism.
@samirSch
@samirSch Месяц назад
@@Yvonne-Bella Because there is absolutely NONE. Natlan is fighting against the Abyss, which is a force of nature. Nothing to do with colonialism. I don't know/understand the concept very well, but in the "Hoyoverse" there's like two realms expanding at the expense of each other, both seeking to anihilate each other but always kept in equilibrium. Like the Ying-Yang thing, in an eternal "Ouroboros" struggle. This is what they call the "Honkai", where the Imaginary Tree where all things exist struggle to not get crushed by the Sea of Quanta which envolves them, which manifests itself in the form of Abyss. The world (universe) of Teyvat is like a leaf in that tree, there's many others like the whole universe of Star Rail and whatever continuation they decide to come in next games. Or in another words, its like Teyvat is a star and the Abyss is the gravity force trying to make it collapse.
@samirSch
@samirSch Месяц назад
I just finished the story so far today, without spoiling the unifying thing is because they need every able hero to fight against the forces of the Abyss because the leylines in Natlan aren't as deep rooted as other nations, so they're more vulnerable to Abyss rifts and subsequent invasions. It has nothing to do with colonialism. Genshin is a chinese name and Hoyo tends to avoid any politicizing issue to not draw the attention of Xi Jing Pooh or the communist dictatorship in general.

Nice to see your friends here too. 😊 Some thoughts to help understand the game's world: actually some of Genshin's nations are inspired by not just one country/culture but multiple different ones. For example Liyue is based on China, Inazuma is based on Japan; but Fontaine is based mainly on France, but there are also some other Southwestern-European influences like Spanish. Mondstadt has many German influence, but also other Northern-European cultures. Sumeru is also a mixed one, India, Egypt and other Arabic cultures, Persia, and Middle East in general. As for Natlan, besides the African-inspired things there are also Aztec and other native American, and also Hawaiian and Maori influences. So this is why you saw some native American musicians and instruments too in this performance. These inspirations and influences can be seen everywhere in a specific nation, like the names of the characters, the style of buildings, the geography (like Inazuma is a group of islands like the real world Japan) and many times also the lore and history of that nation.

In case you missed or can't find it, there is also a concert/orchestra for the soundtrack of Liyue, the nation that came before Inazuma and was inspired by China, over here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pFrKZxStL_U.html Since Mondstadt and Liyue were the first 2 nations in Genshin and the game was still in its early stages then, they didn't have full fledged live symphony performances like the other nations you've seen so far, though Liyue still has an orchestra recording, in the link that I pasted. After watching all the national live symphonies, I would definitely recommend watching the Boss battle OSTs as well. Like the national symphonies, they also incorporate a lot of cultural and modern musical elements together. Other than that for each national symphony orchestra like the Natlan live symphony, Genshin actually releases the behind the scenes of their making as well, u might be interested since they go into the details of how they made the soundtracks and the processes and people involved. Here are the different regional ones: Sumeru: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ps8oa3CRNfk.html Inazuma: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-avmFhel0ky4.html Fontaine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WaNJ20OY8Bs.html Liyue: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JsDRUNFAcyo.html Mondstadt: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NWttfnCIX5E.html Natlan symphony behind the scenes is also expected to be uploaded by genshin soon.

I think with the reason why the pronunciation sounds different is also because it's a choir, and choirs typically sing/pronounce their words differently from the language they sing in.
@amandaslough125
@amandaslough125 Месяц назад
That's a good point to bring up actually. Commonly in English certain words are changed for clarity for the audience. "The" for example is commonly sung as "thee" and words with various slang changes get emphasized different to avoid those slang sounds. Christmas is a good example. Pronouncing the "mas" syllable as the typical "miss" makes the S come out too strong, so choirs typically change it to emphasize an "ah" sound in "mahss".

@gyannunez
@gyannunez 2 месяца назад
This is actually supported by the fact that in-game hot springs are canonically from Natlan, so the onsen in Inazuma were artificially created by Snezhnayans because Inazumans liked the hot springs in Natlan so much they wanted them at home. The same NPC who says this also says that Inazuma doesn’t have volcanic activity, unlike Japan which is part of the ring of fire.

This is very interesting, thanks to the first reaction video you uploaded, from this and the video game in general I have learned something totally new. And is what one of the companions says, that the language sounds a bit strange but apparently it is because it is spoken differently depending on the place or the tribe? (Or so I understood). Also, before Natlan's Video, the only place where I had heard that language was precisely in the Lion King Movie. so it's interesting to see how they use it here. Well, many of the names in Natlan (I play Genshin) sounded familiar to me due to the Mayans, Aztecs and Incas (I'm from Latin America) so it was a surprise to hear the theme in an African language. 🤔🧐

So of course, when non-natives speak Kiswahili it would sound different to us because our accent and pronunciation. Even at the Coast of Kenya, they speak way more fluent Kiswahili than us. i would recommend to watch characters teasers/trailers next(just a warning theres a LOT so itll take a while to get through it all). i also suggest watching the trevail trailer, its one of the first vids made by genshin made before the games release and outlines the journey you take throughout the game and gives a quick preview of each nation and their roles in the story.

I watched your translation video, and the comments of your friends also pointed it out - are there dialects of Swahili? That could explain why some of it is odd cause they are using a different dialect maybe. Like, in Japanese and English there are different dialects that some people use where it could be harder to understand them or what they say because of the words they use for stuff is different. For Japanese, Tokyo-ben is like "Standard" Japanese but Kansai-ben, Hokkaido-ben are some of the other dialects that "Standard" speakers of Tokyo-ben will say it's hard to understand or won't even know what some words are. They are all still speaking Japanese but, you know, from the outside people might not think each could be distinct enough to be it's own dialect. In English, like just American English, alone has many dialects. One of the ones I grew up hearing about but not speaking myself (I grew up with Appalachian dialect in the mountains of my state) was Tidewater dialect which is the coastal dialect of my state. While we both speak English, it's hard for me to understand Tidewater and they use a lot of words I don't so I'd have to ask what they mean a lot.

China is infamous for having many many dialects that technically can count as their own language because of how different they are. For example, my family is from Fu Zhou and the spoken version of Fu Zhou is considered a dialect but understanding to Fu Zhou dialect is near impossible for someone who only knows mandarin Chinese because of how different they are. My grandma only understands and speaks Fu Zhou but she cannot understand much Mandarin anymore.

There are. I’m not a Swahili speaker or a linguist but I know a bit about linguistics and I did look into this topic. There are multiple dialects of Swahili, and it’s mainly spoken across Kenya, Mozambique, and Tanzania. It’s sorta the common language in parts of East Africa. Each country has their own dialect, and different groups within those countries have dialects as well. I know that his tribe, the Kikuyu, pronounce things in a notably different way from other Kenyans. Tanzania has the highest number of Swahili speakers because it’s the country where the Swahili people (or WaSwahili) live. From what I know, I think the singers are going for a more Tanzanian Swahili dialect. Their pronunciation of Shujaa in the second song is more like the Tanzanian pronunciation than the Kenyan pronunciation, but not exact because most of not all of the choir does not consist of native or second language speakers. Some things like the “Ukuu Ukuu” pronunciation in the song are wrong regardless of the dialect, but other things are just dialectal differences plus a result of them not actually speaking the language. There’s also probably some changing of sounds to make it fit better with the music, like he mentioned in his lyric breakdown video. People even do that when they actually speak the language they’re singing in just to make the song flow better.

Yes, as you move from region to region across East Africa, or even in Kenya, Kiswahili can sound different due to accent and word selection while talking. Words wouldn't change meaning but some speakers may use a larger vocabulary of words or speak more formal Kiswahili while some people (like me and my friends) would speak more Informal Kiswahili known as "Sheng" There are words in the Natlan symphony like "matkwa" (which means wants / desires/ wishes) that a regular Kenyan would rarely use in a normal spoken conversation. "Matakwa" is a word you'd hear in a speech or composition but a regular Kenyan in the village would never speak that way. Maybe someone in the Coast would say "Matakwa" because they speak more formal Kiswahili

7:20 we had the same by the german words, they had in another part of Genshin. They sounded like an english man would say them. A bit different. And as you heard them you were like: Wait! I know that word. They only used them for some names, while the rest of the said words was english all along. So that was like a big surprise :D

Also something you might consider is the fact that the prononciation is not very important in opera singing. They sometime make word sound odd to have a sonority that fits better the piece. We have a lot of that in french even when its done by natives

Natlan by the story actually inspired by Maya, Inca and Aztec, but the music vibes is African. 7 region in genshin inspired by real nation. Mondstadt = Germany-Netherland Liyue = China Inazuma = Japan Sumeru = India-Middle East Fontaine = France Natlan = Ancient Latin American-African Szneshnaya = Slavia (Ex-Uni Soviet) - Italy, release at 6.0 But the disclaimer : Genshin is a fiction....etc, you know.

@@renatomarelli4199I just don’t feel the same for other hoyo music. There are some soundtracks by artists hoyo hired but unlike genshin they are done by outside companies and studios. Hoyo mix is just their production studio like Sony would be. That’s why for example the animations in Genshin are so good and a step above honkai since one is dome by themselves. And honkai is paid 3rd company. That’s said I am not even sure about Natlan music now.
