A doctor at the Kozhikode Medical College, Kerala has been suspended after he accidentally performed the surgery on the tongue of the child instead of the hand. The 4-year old girl was supposed to get a surgery at the medical college to remove the 6th finger in her hand.

Who cuts off the human tongue (speech producing organ, digestion and salivary glands) if a cyst is formed ?! 🤨 What kind of medical sciences is this ??! 🙄 Poor girl ☹️

They didnt remove tongue. From the news paper, it seems that they performed a surgery for removal of tongue-tie( apparently as per parents... the kid didnt have any such issues). Tongue tie is when theres a small extra connection under the tongue. In any case... by indian as well as international medical law , it is a high level of negligence. For eg: if a child has an extra finger on both hands and the parents agreed to do surgery on right then a doctor can be sued for mistakenly doing surgery on left. Here the situation is even more bizzare! The most responsible person would be the OT incharge nurses coz they cover and drape the patient while the doctor comes in aftetr a scrubbing. The doctor should also verify as to who the patient is.
