Thank you for making these videos, i cant tell you how hard i've searched the internet for curly girls with keratin treated hair and barely found anything. Please continue to keep us updated and perhaps make videos on how you style it in between treatments, products you use etc.

Aww thank you! I completely agree- I've used keratin treatments on and off for 6 years and spent so much time trying to find other girls with curly hair who would get it done on RU-vid but I couldn't really find any good ones besides Lisette's videos from years ago! That's one of the reasons I started this channel, and I would love for more people to share their experiences in the comments as well as so interested in how other people have found them as I've seen mixed experiences online!

I want to thank you for your channel. I watched all of your videos and took the leap. I absolutely love the keratin treatment on my type 3C/4A curls. It looks like my stretched wash and go with lots of movement and soooooo soft! I took it out of the pineapple and shook it down. No additional water. No additional products. No additional manipulation. This is actually really good for my hair.

Ugh. I just had a whole comment almost typed out ... and then it disappeared 😒 so hopefully this isnt a duplicate comment. Butttttt i came here to say thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Your videos may have changed my daughters (and my own) life forever!!! My daughter is biracial... half black and white and try as we might... we have never been able to manage the frizz and dryness of her natural hair and achieve truly smooth and defined curls. Unfortunately I am a low income single parent so i cant afford to take her to the salon to have her hair professionally done ... but i have researched this topic for literally dayssss on end... trying to find the magic product or magic routine that would solve all her natural hair issuss and find a way to style her hair ... where we can show off her beautiful curls in all their glory. We can get them looking pretty good most of the time ... but as soon as her hair FULLY dries ... the frizz and poofy volume comes back and the shine and defined curls disappear. She is so self conscious of her natural hair and now being 12 ... she has become almost obsessed about finding the solution.... the solution ive been obsessed trying to find her for the last 12 years myself ... and at least the last 24 to 22 years for myself even .... and i think these keratin smoothing treatments... might be our new holygrail. For the last few years now .. ive spent countless hours/days/weeks even dedicated to finding long lasting styles and learning how to do them myself. For the last 2 years its been box braids and faux locs etc. She would refuseeee to go to school without her hair done in some type of singles look like that .... and man my hands have really been put thru it ... keeping up on making sure we are redoing her braidd every 5 to 7 weeks and we have to strictly plan it out since im really not super fast braider and she likes them on the smaller end with extrasaa long braiding hair. Butttt i do it for her ... because I know the torment her peers would put her thru, when she rocked her natural fro. So for years now her peers had not seen her real, natural hair. Only it done wirh box braids. Or diff crochet in locs styles. And before that we did cornrow looks and and when she was very little .. we did cute twist ponies. Anyways im rambling. My point is. We always steered clear of these kinds of treatments or relaxers and stuff of that nature because we didn't want to ruin her curl pattern or hair and try as i might to give her a good silk press ... i could neverr nail that either. Her hair wouldalways end up feeling sorts course and stiff despite my best efforts .. and small fortunes spent on products sworn to give her that soft, sleek and flexible look so many girls of color are able to achieve. Ive felt like i failed her. Like i doomed her to have hair insecurities her whole life because i just couldn't figure out the trick. And i never knew about these kinds of treatments. I just assumed they were basically like straighten perms ... and to do one would mean sacrificing her curls for a time... and if done wrong or botched... sven permanently. Buttttt seeing your curls here and that these treatments wont semi-permanently take her curls ... but instead give her the curls we have been dreaming up. Sooooo thank you. Thank you. Thank you . This video gives me hope. And i am officially going down the rabbit hole to learn how do these myself. Wish me luck. It really could not gone at bstter time ... since the last couple weekends .. we have not had time for braids. Or crochet in ... nothing. So she has had to wear it natural ish. One way shs does that .. is by wearing a clip on ponytail. Welll last week a boy made a point to rip it off her head every embarrassing chance he could ... whenever tons of people we around to circle her and point and laugh and make fun of her "wearing a weaveeeee" this happened 5 or 6 times before i finally got the school to step in. She was mortified and has sworn off wearing her ponytails .... so i am just over the moon rn to have found this video ... and knowledge and now ... despite the fact its nearly 5 am. I am officially on a mission to find out more. Watch videos. Learn how to do it. Find the treatment products i need and hopefullyyyyy tomorrow after school ... she will be getting her first ever keratin treatment and If her results are only half as good as yours.... then i hope you come across this comment and can smile ... knowing your content may literally change a little girls life ... and her relationship with her hair. I will absolutely keep this video saved and update as soon as its done and how it works out. Again ty ty ty ... and not just for my baby ... but me too even. This could benefit my whole family of frizzy girl hair. Anyways stay tuned and i will update If this works as well as we hope it will. 🥰

I’m happy for you that your hair came out pretty good. You stated the treatment prior to this one had a better effect. Technique is everything!! You can detangle with some oil or conditioner prior to shampooing, but make sure to clarify your hair about 3X to get out all the old & new residue on your hair & ensure great Keratin penetration. After you wash & are ready to apply the keratin use a small tooth comb as you apply the keratin. The keratin will soften & detangle the hair on contact & combing should be easy. Using a small tooth comb helps to distribute the Keratin for a even & more thorough smoothing results. Another issue I saw was your blow drying technique. A round brush with some tension, on smaller pieces of hair gives excellent results if you know how to use a round brush. The straighter you blow dry, the easier the flat ironing will be. Lastly, use the chase method with the comb or the implement you used in the video positioned in front of the flat iron, not at the back. You started our correctly, but I guess you got tired & switched the chase implement behind the flat iron. Straighten smaller sections of hair @ a time. Make sure you use a heat protectant. I am not familiar with the bran of keratin you used so I have no advice on that. There are many different brands & different techniques that go along with a particular brand. Just make sure to follow the instructions exactly. Try to get someone to assist you the next time you apply the keratin, it is so much easier, faster & less tiring. Enjoy your smooth, frizz free, manageable hair. You should know the porosity of your hair to help you decide how often you can use Keratin. Usually it’s no more than 3X/year. Low porosity hair can get protein overload if your not careful. Low porosity - the cuticle is tightly closed & it takes more work getting product into the cuticle: however it’s also a very slow process to lose moisture & protein, although @ some point you will. If your hair ever gets hard, brittle after a treatment it could be protein overload!! I think you are safe because you used the keratin only twice in a year. High porosity loses & receives moisture & protein easily. This type of hair loves moisture &!protein. Be aware that you can have different hair porosity on the same head of hair. Chemical treatments, IE bleaching, dying, permanents, etc & damaged hair will have impaired cuticles & therefore a different porosity than you usually have. Keep those ends & colored hair moisturized & conditioned. If you tend towards dryness seal in moisture with a very light oil.

Great vid and gorgeous hair! Thanks so much for sharing! Curious to know what flat iron you use as well as styling products please. While I absolutely loved the results, I will be trying to do my own keratin treatment at home, as here in Canada when I had it done, I was charged almost $500 for the treatment in the salon. Also, it is still relatively straight and stringy after my first shampoo since having it done about a week and a half ago. My coils didn't bounce back like they said it would. I'm hoping this isn't due to heat damage. UGH. The stylist said she used low heat because I have porous, fine hair also with highlights. We will see what it looks like after my next shampoo. It did change the colour of my hair as well! Much lighter and more red. I did not expect that.

I love you natural hair, I get what you mean though, my hair is 3b and I'm struggling, just to make it look descent with no effort what so ever, so definitely concidering keretin treatment...what's it like when it grows out, I don't want straight ends and curly roots 😵
@KeratinandCurls
@KeratinandCurls Год назад
It's hard! Curly hair is beautiful, but it can be hard work, especially when it's just going through that phase when it just doesn't want to co-operate. For me I didn't really have the issue with straight ends and curly roots as my curls are quite tight anyway. The only areas I had a slight risk or this was where I had loose curls at the bottom of my head, so I just used less heat here. I think for 3b hair you should be fine though providing you don't get heat damage! so just make sure the stylist doesn't use excess heat xx

Thanks for your comment! I've personally not used kerafill, and looking at the website it does seem to be a keratin treatment which shouldn't straighten the hair! @KeratinandCurls 6 месяцев назад
Hey, with how you described your daughter's hair on the other video I do think it could be a good one to try. It doesn't have to be Avlon's Texture Release, but a good keratin treatment that's formaldehyde free could work well. Just really try and reduce the amount of heat you use when doing it to make it's as non-damaging as possible! And also even if she loves it, try and not do repeated treatments close together- most of the time when there's damage it's after the 2nd or 3rd (that I've seen!) I did do a video on the negative side of these treatments also! Lastly, for me keratin treatments were a great stepping stone to me fully embracing my natural hair as I learnt to wear it out more- with keratin treatments or without!

So crazy expensive. However I found a website here looksmell.com/product/avlon-texture-release-kit/ where I could buy the kit directly to do at home for $114, but it will cover me for 3-4 treatments! The only downsides is 1. it is designed for professional use so need to be careful when using at home and no 2. it is a US based website so shipping was $35! For me it was worth it, but looking to find one that's better suited for home use to share on this channel. I'm working on it and hope to have a video on this soon!

It was £83, but I would say I've still got half the bottle left and I've already done 2 treatments so it works out £20 per treatment. I'm going to try some other ones soon I think though to see if there's any easier to get hold off! avlon texture release isn't a keratin treatment. this is misinformation :(
@KeratinandCurls
@KeratinandCurls 8 месяцев назад
There's been a more recent 'rebranding' of keratin treatments over the last few years to be 'smoothing treatments' as keratin treatments got a lot of bad press due to formaldehyde. Most of the time they've just replaced the formaldehyde with the ingredient 'glyoxylic acid' (which still releases formaldehyde at high heats), which is the case with Avlon's texture release. I actually found out about Avlon's texture release from a trichologist, who suggested it as a 'good keratin treatment for curly/afro hair'. Truthfully I think a lot of it is marketing, but it's a good point and might look to do a seperate video on this in the future and do some more research! (sorry for the delay)

@@graceo8080 If it does release formaldehyde it would be at very low levels though so I wouldn't worry about it too much! You've inspired me to do a video on this as just spent the past 2 hrs researching what they say is the actual difference, but still not convinced.. But you're right, I do think there's a lot of misleading info out there which can be frustrating
