My attempt to recreate Venera 9 in Kerbal Space Program, Real Solar System mod.
Venera 9, soviet unmanned mission to planet Venus. Venera 9 (4V-1 No. 660) consisted of an orbiter and a lander. It was launched on June 8, 1975 02:38:00 UTC and had a mass of 4,936 kg (10,884 lb).The orbiter was the first spacecraft to orbit Venus, while the lander was the first to return images from the surface of another planet.

parachutes were not actually used on venera 8 and 9.....only airbrakes were enough considering the density of Venus' atmosphere!

Comedians both. This thing had a heat shield, so if something went wrong before it left the parking orbit, it would have definitely landed on the Earth.

Hey, they truly deserve the credit for suffering through such short-lived and tedious but important science here. It can't have been much fun at all to have a lander that only lasts an hour while Viking and Mariner got the real exciting stuff done.

+Brainpop14 heatshield is from Lionshead with my own textures, lander with my decals is from Tantares, probe with my own decals is from procedural parts, panels and antenna from AIES, engine from FASA ( I've chosen Apollo SPS because it has almost the same stats as original one)

Excellent video, well done! May I ask, what are you flying over at about 2 minutes? What exact graphical mods are you using to replace the surface textures? I have not looked at graphical mods since 0.90 Your photo album is also excellent, as I love to see the numbers behind the craft.

youtubeuserxyz He is flying over the Iberian Peninsula and part of North Africa basically over Spain and Morocco. I don't know about the mods though.

Zeshadowbolt thanks. That is what it looked like, but I wanted to confirm. Those mods have come a long way since I last used them given how good the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa look here.

The mods he has used are easy to install, they just use a ton of ram and limit your game quite alot.

Thank you. Orbiter was made mostly from Procedural Parts + antenna from AIES. The lander was made with a mod created by user Beale form KSP forum but I have no idea what was the exact name of the mod. I no longer have this installation so I can't help you.

I used only stock parts, some of them tweakscaled and recoloured in KerbPaint.

I wonder the parachutes survived the conditions on Venus atmosphere. Were they made from nylon? Does anyone know about it? I thought they got to the ground using retrothrusters.

They were made from kevlar in-game, not sure about real life. Here is some info about chutes used in Pioneer Venus mission: solarsystem.nasa.gov/docs/07%20-%20Space%20parachute%20system%20design%20Lingard.pdf
