Actually Malzahar support used to be meta dominant in early season 7 - in general i feel we are pretty close to the bot lane meta in early s7, but instead of zyra, malz, mf, karma we see heimer, ashe and so on. It is ranged/damage support+early game adc meta again and I am here for it xD
Lots of people forget that when Kalista ult a champ and the ulted player decide to "dash" in to collide with enemy team, they get bounced back and lands to their ATTACK range. TLDR: When Draven used Kalista's ult to go in he gets bounced back away from them.

Kalista does unironically offer a lot as a support, 0 CD and 0 mana slows on E that can also act as a second smite, similar to Renata %HP damage passive on W with an added vision active, an ult that can both engage and disengage your adc, and a lot of early damage, build options are the only real problem but it didn't feel that bad to play in my experience a little after preseason (I knew I was onto something lol)
