Talking Volumes host Kerri Miller and author John Irving talked about his new book, Avenue of Mysteries, and the life of a writer on November 6, 2015 at the Ted Mann Concert Hall at the University of Minnesota.
I appreciate that Mr. Irving takes time to express his beliefs, his experience, his thoughts. I suggest you slow down and just listen...rather than hear a bunch of "uh's" and "um's" and "er's"! Miller's outstanding interview skills bring out more deep thought in her interviews, too. What a treat!
John Irving is a master story teller. This interview finds him at home speaking his truth and The World According to what he believes without preaching what we should believe. In fact, he helps us understand that we are all a work in progress, if we are free to express ourselves.
Come on. He's a writer; he's careful with his words. The world is full of people who talk without thinking first, without choosing their words intentionally. Most are rather boring.
What on earth were those tedious, dreary songs? Almost as tedious and dreary to listen to as is Mr. Irving. Not to take anything away from Mr. Irving’s writing, which I admire, but he should stay away from public speaking.
