@@jamespell1138 its well documented that hanneman was the principle riff writer. ive seen various videos and documentaries and interviews that suggest so
out of the "Big 4", Slayer are the only ones who have truly stayed true to the origins. Awesome riffs in show no mercy and awesome riffs now in repentless, like he's demonstrating in this video with the easy riff. To kill!
I agree. Kerry is 1/4 the original slayer lineup. these guys stayed together forever as a unit. prima donnas need not apply. Kerry may not be the best technical player but I would rather have Kerry in the band then fkn Guthrie Govan or satch. listen to chicken foot and then tell me who sounds better?
@@ryliefranco3910 There are so many snobs in music and among music fans that thinks more technical means better. No doubt Satriani is a lot more technical and skilled guitar player than Kerry, but I don't think anyone would think that Satch would fit into Slayer. Kerry is good at doing what he does. Of course he would not fit into Yngwie Malmsteens band or something like that. That is fine. He does not need to be the greatest guitar player to make good music.
He plays a pretty simple riff here and still manages to screw it up. I don't hate him, but the fact he's famous doesn't make him a good guitarist (even an above average one).
Ajwad Murshed I know this is old but I’m gonna put it anyway cause I don’t give a fuck. But if you think Kerry King is a satanist.... Then that tells me how ignorant you are. He’s actually atheist. Doesn’t believe in any deity. Believes you are worm food when you die and that’s it. That’s why it’s so easy for him to write blasphemous songs that have Tom screaming “God Hates Us all” also if you think Slayer in general is a satanic band. Guess again. I highly doubt any devoted catholic would be in a serious satanic band. Tom Aroyo or Aroya or something like that is catholic. And has said many times that his involvement in slayer doesn’t effect his relationship with god.
I'm sure if he could sing, he probably would have done something with it. Don't know if he could sing and play at the same time though, that's a skill in itself.
Such a cool guy. Im just getting into Slayer through a friend, and learning guitar. I always thought he looked so menacing and scary. He seems like a cool, down to earth, level headed dude
Also, same friend, my neighbour just sold me an amp and guitar. He has a Kerry King V, HUUUGE Slayer fan, and awesome guy, like the ultimate Metal Dad to his troop of kids. Anyway his Kerry King V is his pride and joy. Once he pulled it outa the cupboard and proceeded to play something that melted my head, jaw on floor level shredding, guys so cool to talk to. Bought an old Ibanez Gio off him last week for £50 with a locking trem, badass guitar, then he wanted 100 for this BEAST of a Laney LV300t. 120 Watt Tube and SS hybrid, with the foot pedals, they go for 370 and upwards. And 70 for this other stunning Ibanez that looks like a Gibson Les Paul. Mahogany body, set through mahogany neck - not bolted, all white with black binding, active pickups. Previous owner tried to solder something and botched it. So he got it cheap. Asked for 70. My GF spoke to him and said do us a deal. He said £120 for the amp and guitar. Just got them home and he told me some easy Slayer tracks and riffs...then i got here. Love my GF for getting me that amp and guitar she rocks. Fucking love my amp too \m/
don't learn this shit starting off, itll teach you horrible habits like tremolo picking everything out of key. you'll ultimately sound like a blender playing the guitar
Kerry is an excellent rhythm player and has created some timeless riff/songs. Like Slayer or not, King and the band has earned legendary status. No one can take this away from them. Slayer is metal royalty.
People don't realise that Raining Blood had what would be considered the first breakdown in metal. Most popular metal sub genres that dominated the following 2 decades were built around heavy breakdowns. Slayer/Kerry King had a hand in the conception of metalcore, deathcore, djent and many other breakdown centric genres
Great run with Slayer, truly a legendary band. Slayers music is what got me into metal, shout out to Kerry for his great work and modest attitude. Cool guy.
He's consistent with his playing. He's been doing so since the 80s. As everyone from other bands he had filled in for such as Megadeth have said he is an amazing RHYTHM player. I'll admit Jeff's solos were much much better. Seasons is a good example of this.
I would agree with you back in the nineties. But in the last several years before his death, Jeff solos deteriorated in quality and Kerry's sounded much sharper and cleaner. Prime for Prime Hanneman's were better.
I remember when Reign in Blodd was first released. Also Hell Awaits picture disc. My 2 favorite by far. I still have all my Slayer albums from the early 80s.
Right on Kerry heavy metal Never Dies and you're living breathing proof of just that, hats off to Slayer! Of all the bands that are still left the big four are still jamming hard even though there's been some losses along the way sadly enough. You made the music and we listen to it so in reality we all live this history together.
Ahh wtf man?!... been playing that shit wrong for 20 years because the stupid Slayer tab book says 5320-6540-5320-6540 and I always thought that fingering was fucked up... now I know i was right! Thanks Kerry! Eff you tab book!!!
haha yeah me too (for 10 years), but not that part tho... . I loved it when he said "Let's hope I don't mess this one up". I mean he's played it for 30 years
It’s a common death metal style riff. Early Cannibal Corpse is full of those chromatic aberrations. Picking it cleanly with a Marshall is hard as fuck though. The recto plus pedal days make it much easier.
We all for sure miss Jeff but Kerry is still King in Slayer... 38 fkn' years is a career in guitar and music. 1 of the Big4 who packed Stadiums like noone do in Metal these days.🤘
Jumanism i dont understand it either it doesnt matter what song or even what genre i hear on youtube i will always find a comment comparing it to jb tf does he have to do with this shit just fuck outta here with that unoriginal shit. also the guitar is pretty fucking ugly
Kerry King gets a lot of bad rap, yet every time I've seen him he's cool af... respect to you Mr King, your riffs are some of the greatest ever put together.
In the professional noise sector Slayer was one of the best acts I have ever seen with an astounding guaranteed level of quality. Only Suicidal are an even better live party!!!
it's hilarious to see everyone talking trash about a member of slayer on his skills when u sit at home trying to act like u would ever achieve 1% of what he has. smh.. \m/
You all seem to forget something. Kerry King is a rhythm guitarist. Most rhythm sections play basic background chords while the lead guy does all the flashy shit. Ill take kerry as my rhythm section any day of the week. The same keyboard heroes that shit talk lars. These guys have been doing it 30+ years. Id love to hear some demo tapes of all the fart knockers that claim these guys suck. Because apparently you all are just a wasted talent that the world hasnt been blessed to hear yet
Lol no he's a very creative guitarist, because he uses basic skills but in creative ways just goes all in on exactly that and somehow... The guy simply goes by ear has no music theory... He's "yeah this sounds cool and rythm" you can imagine what nightmare it would be to nail down and write down their notebooks because it doesn't make no traditional sense in the world of music.
@@zyriuz2 and guess what clown, their music sells. Let me guess, you like Dream Theatre 😂😂 classic example of a technical band that doesn't understand what sounds good 🙄
Kerry is on the Mount Rushmore of Metal guitar. Death metal, Thrash metal, Speed metal, Heavy metal, whatever the fuck you want to call it, it doesn't matter. He is one of the top 2-3 metal guitarists ever, in one of the most influential and longest-lived metal bands in history. PERIOD, end of story. :)
if we’re talking about him as a rhythm guitarist then yes, but his solos are absolutely awful. Like seriously when he solos he sounds like a novice trying to play licks as fast as he can and then he’ll go and do a divebomb and that will be his solo. They’re ridiculously sloppy and I really don’t think it’s fair to call him one of the greatest metal guitarists when there’s so many other metal guitarists who actually have technical skill aswell as riff writing abilities
@@alexjackson8841 That's what their music requires. Slayer ain't Dream Theater. You can hear atonal solos in many metal bands, such as Sepultura, Possessed and Morbid Angel and nobody complains about that. Early thrash and death metal were all about chaos, not virtuosity like modern bands do.
@@robertoricci3393 I get that that’s what they require, I’m not expecting a super melodic solo from him or anything. I’m not complaining he can play what he wants, i’m just saying there’s a difference between purposely playing atonally but still being good(buckethead or shawn lane kinda style), and literally just being terrible at soloing. Kerry is terrible at soloing, I’m not being a hater just telling the truth. Granted, Slayers style of music isn’t my taste of music, but i’d still give credit where credits due for musical talent. The solos from a band like Sepultura aren’t awfully sloppy like Kerrys, besides no ones calling the guitarist from sepultura the “greatest”. Like i said i’m not hating on Kerry he can play what he wants and if people enjoy it then cool, i’m just saying it’s a bit unfair to call him one of the greatest metal guitarists when he’s far sloppier and worse technically than loads of others.
He's just an overrated sloppy old man who plays open E string just to make it easier to change chord to another. Dave Mustaine is the one who reinvented the genre and perfected it. You're clearly not a true metal fan if you don't agree.
