Video "Leftovertures"...snippets from the interview series which didn't fit neatly into an individual theme, but too enjoyable not to share....
As you'll soon discover, I'm not a professional interviewer. As a lover of history, it was important that Kerry's legacy not be lost to the elements of time, and wanted to document his stories and recollections for his family...we thought it good enough to share with the general public.

What a down-to-earth guy, who really has a good head on his shoulders. It's refreshing to see that there are people like Kerry. Too bad that there aren't more like him.

I am kind of late to RU-vid but when I found these interviews I couldn’t stop until I had seen all of them. Thank you so much for recording the legacy that Kerry is. I have been stuck at home with not much going on because of the pandemic, but the Lord graced me with all the wonderful music that I can revisit now. So glad to hear Kerry is improving. Glad the Lord has given him more time with his family and more music to create!

Thank you SO MUCH for these awsome interviews which allow us to catch a glimpse of the man behind the musician. I am impressed by his personal sense of self-mockery, his intelligence and how humble he is considering his outstanding contribution to the Pantheon of american music. Reverently Mr Livgren.

Great series of interviews! I always considered Kerry much more than just a talented song writer. To me a great composer who ranks with anyone in any time period. His style of symphonic rock has never been approached.

I listened to leftoverture and point of no return albums as a teen until they almost wore out. The music from Kansas was so different from other rock bands of the time. It was just wonderful to listen to. As a christian myself I remember thinking that many of their songs had what sounded to me, like faith based messages. It’s fantastic to see this interview and to know that Kerry gave his life to Jesus Christ!

From what I gather below, in the content, and to the right, this is the last of the group. Nicely done. It worked well in not always doing the segments chronologically and coming back to topics that spanned all the years. Also nicely done in that I understand the Christian perspective is prevalent here (and the host perhaps related to Kerry in this manner), you're very respectful to your audience who may have mixed views on the subject, but collectively love the band's work. Nice to hear the detail of how it all came to be and where it's been since.

thank you Tim...was originally made for Kerry heirs and the State Historical archives...wish some of the others commenters realized they are invited here as "guests"...all the best to you and yours.

John - I really enjoyed this entire series. Thanks so much. Kerry is a treasure no doubt. It seems he has improved quite a bit since this interview. I take it that his right hand has come a fair ways back now in 2018?? What a musical and spiritual legacy he will leave when he lays his "weary head to rest"!
@johnbowes

Thank you for your kind comments. So refreshing from some of the criticism. Folks don't realize how close they came to never seeing these clips as they were made for his heirs and the State's Historical archives. So when I get one that's a bit over the top with criticism, my first reaction is to just pull them down. Basically, they were private, but here at the courtesy of Kerry. As to your question, Yes, he does continue to improve. >What a musical and spiritual legacy he will leave when he lays his "weary head to rest"! "Here I lay, now turned to DUST... But I'll rise again, for in Christ I TRUST"... Warm blessings :-)

Great Interview! Well paced and detailed. Kansas was a very important band for me in Jr. High, the Leftoverture and Point of No Return era. But their story as well as Kerry's was always a mystery to me, never knew much about them besides the music. Only saw them once, on the Greatest Hits tour after Steve left. Was lucky enough to meet Dave and Kerry after the show. So cool to have the documentary available here on RU-vid. I might suggest that you create a playlist of these 14 vidz, which would make it easier to "like" the whole package and share it... Thanks to Kerry Livgren for his story and his music. Thanks to John Bowes for doing an outstanding interview and sharing it with the public!!

Serious Disrespect to a Rock Legend by bringing up his Baldness (bald as a Cueball, You said). You should've totally left that question on the cutting room floor. Kerry handled that stupid question with grace. That was a very pedestrian and juvenile Question where you are making fun of his appearance at his expense. Nobody loves you for this. This seems to be a recurrent thing with you as you did it live on stage in an Audience Q & A Video with Kerry where you trotted out a blonde wig also (very unfunny). In these videos, nobody needs to see your face, a 2 Cam shoot was totally unnecessary. This is about Kerry Livgren, not the interviewer. The only question I have is: What the Hell is wrong with you?
@johnbowes
@johnbowes 6 лет назад
Thanks for your note Charles...that indeed shows bad discretion on my part, and additionally speaks to the nature of my relationship with Kerry. I don't see him as a "Rock Legend"...he's as ordinary as any of my other friends I tease...he just happens to also be a musical genius. Obviously, you are correct sir, I am not a journalist, I'm not an interviewer (and indeed plead guilty to being a pedestrian)....Kerry jokes about his "lack of locks" himself given the contrast of his "rock persona" and now his "farmer persona". Please note, I love Kerry and respect him greatly...I indeed should have kept the context private, and not made these videos available to the public. Additionally, I did not have any control over the editing, that was done by another close friend.... Now, let me put some backdrop to your sharp comments...the two videos your reference were not done nor intended for public consumption...they are intended for Kerry's and my family, our collective friends and church family. You are invited here solely as my guest, on my channel, because I think the information Kerry shares is of some interest beyond our own circle of influence. The statements you make indicate you believe that these video packages are being presented for your sole appreciation. They were not done with that intent. In closing, I can't answer your last question, but it has given pause towards perhaps rethinking the "openess of my channel", making them private, or pulling them all together. If we ever revisit these interviews with Kerry, 1) I'll leave out the question; 2) not show my face; and, then send you your own personal copy or link to enjoy. John B. Thank you John for your thoughtful reply. Thanks also for putting your comments into context. I apologize for the terseness of my comments (being a huge Livgren fan, it was a knee-jerk reaction of having seen both videos that I mentioned). I should also add that I appreciate the fact that you took the time to share videos with the open public regardless of the context. There is a lot of important historical content contained within them and I sincerely hope that you continue to share them with the public at large for posterity's sake. It was not my intent to make you re-edit your videos. They are fine just the way they are. I was merely nitpicking, and aside from your baldness comments; you make a fine interviewer and it's clear that you had good rapport with Kerry. I DID enjoy your videos. So Let me add to my apology by saying 'Thank you'.
@johnbowes
@johnbowes 6 лет назад
Charles, I have no problem with you or your comments..."iron indeed sharpens iron"...Indeed, I need to do a better job of putting these "interviews" into a better "context" for the viewer...all to say, I love Kerry, I believe in time he will be viewed more as a midwestern progressive composer of our time, than just a "rock legend". It must be my love of history, but his legacy is important to me....the stories he shares with his close friends of life in "KANSAS" and on the road, seem to me to be of value beyond are own circle and time. I don't in anyway to upstage his persona but strive to promote and protect it with my limited means. In closing, you sir are welcomed at my table anytime. If you "do facebook"...consider looking me up. Warm blessings to you and yours, jb
