Kerry is so lovely- you can practically see her glow, and she speaks with such power, conviction and eloquence. When I grow up I want to be her, please.
I really can't anymore with this election, I just can't. I can't believe trump has gotten this far. it's really an insult to all achievements of humanity.
I shudder with every new utterance from that man's pie hole. When Trump was first declaring his run....you remember how he rode down the escalator with the spokes model wife?.....I cringed and laughed. NOW I'm actually losing sleep. How the hell did this crap happen?
Well in fairness, how many high profile Republicans are saying Trump is perfect? I find it telling that Trump takes issue with illegal immigrants in the USA, and the Democrats lose their shit...but apparently they were okay with Hillary calling a pretty substantial number of AMERICAN CITIZENS "deplorables." I think it's pretty fucked up for a Presidential candidate to defend people who violate American laws to come in to the USA, while simultaneously shitting on about a quarter of the American population. And frankly, Hillary's fixation on the "alt-Right" represents a shift in insane rhetoric that people thought only Trump peddled in!
JK74 shes not wrong, about 1/4th of the country are "deplorable". just being american doesnt mean youre on a pedestal. goddamn id rather shoot trump voters than the drugged out nuts in afgahnistan
Really? More like Democrats: "I'm going to magnify all my candidate's flaws, I'm not voting for any candidate unless they're perfect!" From Democrats AND Republicans I'm hearing, "My vote is not influenced by policies or facts, I'm only interested in emotional narratives. They don't have to be based in facts, they just have to appeal to my pre-existing biases".
Kerry Washington for president year 2020!!!!!! I would so vote for her if she ever ran. She's such a delight, beautiful, intelligent, humble, and a hustler! 💯💯 I love her ❤️
love Kerry she is so charming and very intelligent..I met her years ago at my sisters wedding we sat at the same table..my sister and her starred in the same movie "Lift"
And I thought Maher was better than this... Of course Trump is garbage, but pretending that Clinton is less garbage is just disingenuous. Great job discounting a third party, it's that attitude that keeps us locked into this ridiculous two party system that has delivered the two worst presidential candidates in living memory.
The time to strengthen 3rd party is not during election cycle. The correct time is 365 days a year, with biggest emphasis on growing the number of people supporting your party on issues. The recent history of 3rd party has been to pick a candidate and hope that candidate increases their support. Both the Green Party and to some extent, the Libertarians depend on their candidate to grow the party. If they don't get out 365 days every year they will continue to play the roll of loud losers who do not do the work necessary on a daily basis---- whether it is election season or not. Outwardly it it seems their leadership has been satisfied with that potential spoiler roll. Bernie is the only personality I see who could grow the Green Party, and the Libertarians need to get in better contact with reality before they can move upward.
Listen, I don't like Hillary, but I prefer her way above Adolf Orange. I am a Libertarian, but I won't vote for Gary Johnson this year because a vote for him would mean a vote for the Orange One. And I won't help Adolf Orange in any way shape or form. Therefore, if you're sane, you vote for Hillary. Even if it's only for four years, it's still worth to keep the Orange One from taking office.
When you have die-hard Trump supporters, who call President Obama, Obozo, supporting your comment; I believe it's a good time to re-evaluate where you stand. Hillary is definitely less garbage than Trump. Yes, she has scars from a lifetime of public service... but remember that she didn't start with Politics, and she has always been on the right side of REAL SERVICE. Her mistakes were all political- and were all along party lines. But her heart and intentions, I can trust those 100%.
She is someone we need to pay attention to. Smart caring and intelligent.. Ive had the same responses and thoughts about this GOP candidate, right on !
76firedragon It didn't seem like a joke to me either. She played it as one but Bill seemed to think she really was a Millennial. But meh, i could be wrong and it doesn't really matter. But if it was a joke and some people didn't get it, that's no reason for someone else to be a douche. We all know who i'm talking about. (not you)
I've always tried to figure out the generation thing...Gen X'ers are supposedly those who hit the big 30 before the new millennium or something like that..and nobody is quite sure where millenials start..because i am not that much younger than Kerry Washington...
The media is NOT pushing to vote for the loudest candidate--most media bashes Trump. Stop blaming it on miseducation and understand that there is an actual appeal to Trump that Hillary does not have. Trump voters like him BECAUSE of his policies.
Temporarily banning Muslim immigrants, yes. Supporters think this is better than Hillary's plan to increase refugee intake, which may enable terrorist activity and economic turmoil to occur here as it has in Europe.
i agree that most trump voters probably like trump because of his political ideas. But i posit that the reason they like his political ideas for the most part is due to them not understanding the far reaching consequences of those politics. Not that hillary supporters are any better at that. Trump is basically going on fear mongering while hillary is going on the whole SJ bullshit. Either way, the USA are screwed. By the way, i'd find it hilarious if a third-party candidate in the end makes the race. Not that this is likely, but the USA would be left with a president that either has little to no power due to both big parties jeopadizing him, or can rule pretty undisturbed because the big parties largely ignore him and focus on infighting.
Bill has bought (or more likely been bought) into the Trump is worse propaganda. Trump is incredibly bad, but Hillary is the epitome of corruption and insatiable pursuit of wealth and power
Not Voting or Voting for a third candidate is Voting against ourselves? Not fighting back is what's hurting us. Voting in this country needs to be overhauled from top to bottom.
Being so for Hillary and completely disregarding her shortcomings is starting to come off as really disingenuous. Voting for Trump is certainly not the answer, but saying that not voting or voting for a third party candidate is a vote for Trump is becoming a stale argument. Your girl has problems. Address them.
Thank you my British friend for stating perfectly what every one of us Yanks needs to hear and take to heart! "The lesser of two evils" unfortunately is the reality for U.S. voters. Bernie was our best hope for breaking down that system but of course he was shut down by the machine. I will begrudgingly vote Hillary.
I'm talking about all the people who are talking about Hillary as if she is some saint. I don't think it's helping their cause. It makes the Hillary camp seem dishonest about who she is. I think a better way to beat Trump is to face up to Hillary's shortcomings. That way it can honestly be held up next to Trump's shortcomings and the two can be compared. Hillary would come out on top. Imperfect, but a better choice. Simply acting like Trump is an idiot troll and Hillary is an angel is transparent denial. People need truth. Spin isn't working anymore.
Ralph Nader did not kill Al Gore's chances in 2000. Most of the voters that voted for Nader were registered Greens or Independents anyway and did not affect Gore's votes. Al Gore won the popular vote, but the Supreme Court gave it to Bush. Also, with how elections work in America, the only people who should not vote for a third or fourth parties for fear of affecting the election in Trumps favor are the voters in swing states (solid red or blue states will automatically go to the repub. or dem. candidate). Most people who are voting third or fourth party are voting as a protest vote, not because they think those people will actually win.
I agree with Kerry about the fact that we live in a culture of celebrity and personality. Many people seem to be attracted to the most outrageous, loudest mouth in the room. This idea that the one with the biggest mouth somehow will do the best job.
I hate when people say a 3rd party vote is a waste. We are continuously told that the only vote that counts is one that benefits the parties who hold a stranglehold on our democracy, and in fact, if you voted any other way you are a part of the problem. "You're not gonna vote for THAT person!" is the only thing that drives the voter in this country and has nothing to do with anything to do with any issue. Seems like an effective way to run our government... a popularity contest. Maybe that could be the reason our government has worked so well.
Elections are purely popularity contests, the general public votes on what name they recognize, maybe one or two issues and how they feel, which is why we have career politicians in congress that have been in the same position all their lives despite of how horrible and corrupt they are. History has proven that it takes decades, sometimes centuries, for the general population to finally realize change is good and as long as they remain tunnel visioned, 3rd parties wont work in this country, that and they have no proof their ideas can actually work. 3rd parties have to prove to the general public their ideas work in practice, not just on paper and in theory, by winning local and state positions where policies have more immediate effect and results, then maybe 3rd parties will have a realistic chance at winning the presedency.
Okay, but how do any 3rd party candidates show that their ideas and policies work in practice, when we have decided that voting for a party outside Dem/Repub is a waste? This is exactly what I am insinuating is the problem. You can't show what you can do if you can't get in the game. It is within the best interest for both major parties to keep any other sort of options off the table, which is easily done by not allowing another voice into the political discussions and by telling us every election cycle that a 3rd party vote is a waste at best or a harmful vote at worst.
BuckLax3 as ive stated 3rd parties can start with local and state elections, i didnt say it was going to be easy but change never is. Once 3rd parties are able to grt their foot in the door then they will have a chance, even then it'll be hard work. 3rd parties are like workers with no experience trying to apply for ceo, shooting for the top without wanting to do the work required. This country has a long history of a two party system, D and R are just the current iterations. If they fade and the other two will grow and itll be the exact same problem by a different name. The problem isnt the parties, its the money behind the parties and the simplistic thinking of the general population. If the general population wants change it will happen but people are resistant to change because they are scared of anything different and unknown. For now 3rd parties have no chance as long as they only pop up every four years.
I understand what you are trying to say about local elections and sure, in an ideal world, change would be like a locomotive picking up speed with the support of a well educated and involved public... but that is not ever happening. The name doesn't really matter... Dem, Rep, Green, whatever the hell else you want to call yourself... what matters is, as you and I seem to agree, money and it's influence on government. It is at the heart of the problem. That is not what I am arguing. I am adding that there is a partnership between this money and the two parties themselves and that this partnership allows, if not causes, a perpetuation of the status quo; reducing choice and in doing so reducing the chance for meaningful change. There is a very blatant effort on the part of the two parties to keep any other choice off the table. The Commission is funded by the two parties themselves and they won't let anyone else play. The media will not cover any other candidates because they have a hand in funding the Dem/Rep campaigns who, in turn, pay for airtime. Could this also not be, at least, a part of the reason for an uninformed populace? One which does not even know what their other choices could be? Then add to that, the treatment received if you do voice a desire to support an alternative candidate... The "if you don't vote for one of two, you are just as bad"... Fear tactics rooted in shame. You're right, we do only every hear about 3rd parties every four years, but that is also the only time most people even think about elections. And even then, most just go into a booth and punch "ALL DEM" or "ALL REP". They know Trump and Hilary, the rest are mostly put into office solely based off their party affiliation. What's the name of that off-brand Cola at the store? The one without and global marketing campaign. Calling it "store-brand" doesn't count. I'll wait. But we sure as hell know Coke and Pepsi. Funny thing is that they all taste the same.
I agree with Babak G..... watching Maher for me is like watching a dear friend who's strayed to the dark side of honesty and reality. You keep checking back to see if things are like they used to be and aren't. I can live with him not liking Trump but his support of Clinton and contempt for the average person who doesn't agree with him is disgusting.
He doesn't have contempt for the average person, he has contempt for fucking idiots. Much like the example of the flint woman he was talking about. If you cannot be bothered to get off your ass and learn and research something that might or should affect you and you just allow yourself to be spoon fed shit, then you get what comes to you. So yeah it is not contempt for average people. Unless you believe the average person is dumb, then again you feed his point perfectly.
Something about selling out domestic production sectors with flamboyantly corrupt international trade agreements that sell out American workers? The problem with Trump is, we all know he's a flaming racist without ANY policy behind him. The problem with Clinton is, her track record is so bad, her only line of defence is that Trump will be worse..
Actually I don't think "we all know" Trump is a racist. I know that the media has happily portrayed him as a racist, and to the vast majority of people, the more you repeat something, the truer it appears...whether it's a fact or not.
Yeah I'm with finisher3x. More specifically, "What did she do that Republicans didn't do and that Donald Trump won't do?" I'm going to make an assumption that this is about trade policies that sent the auto industry (and others?) to other countries. Democrats used to protect american workers but they moved to the right on that issue mostly because of the success Republicans had at destroying the unions. Workers didn't have nearly as much political power without the unions, so all politicians started courting the same rich industrialist by supporting free trade policies. I will be extremely surprised if there is any change on that front regardless of who is president and let's be clear, Jill Stein will never be president. Detroit and other industrial communities have been losing their factory jobs since the 80s. 30 years of presidents have pedaled BS to them about how their communities are going to be transformed. I hope they figure something out soon.
Wow. Trump is quite the philanthropist... giving other people's money to charities, and then taking credit for it. "Self-financing" his own campaign, then changing his mind and taking other peoples' donations to pay himself for using his own house, plane, and golf courses, and also paying his own family. What a guy !!!!
joshua G You missed the D-X reference. "You think you're a big man? (laughing) Treat you like you're a little man." That's part of the theme song. You've proven yourself to be nothing but a troll...not even a good one! Your D Generation-X membership has been revoked--And if you're not down with that, I got two words for ya: SUCK IT!!!!
Wow, seriously? Have you seen the Clinton Cash documentary? She has funded and pardoned African warlords, stole money from the Haiti relief fund and sold Russian nuclear power companies the uranium deposits in many states in America.
Yes, seriously. You know what she hasn't done? Advocate war crimes and call immigrants rapists/murderers. She hasn't failed in almost every single god damn investment she's ever made, either. She also has an iota of experience in office, so she's far less likely to burn the damn place down than Trump. I'm not saying she's my candidate of choice, I'm saying she's not Trump. She's evil, but at least she's not evil and STUPID.
Wow, how likely is it that a third party would actually win? We all know there's only two choices in America, despite all the bullshit rhetoric about freedom.
A) A vote for a third party at this point is as useful as not voting. I'm realistic, not idealistic. I'd much rather contribute my vote toward a party that stands a chance of winning against the worst party than throw my vote away on someone who won't even smell the oval office, and then watch as the majority of lunatics out there vote Trump into office because I didn't help put someone else there. B) I'm not a "dude", and you could stand to check your attitude. Grow up, while you're at it, and accept that the world doesn't run on feel-good idealism.
4:55, "voting for a 3rd party is against 'ourselves' " I call bullshit. For any state that isnt a swing state, chances are good that your vote in either party doesnt matter. So why not vote 3rd party & at least show numbers to a party that could use it. Wayyy better than the lesser of 2 evils.
negative , the same whiners said the same thing about Ronald Reagan and it never happened. Please speak with facts not ill placed and misguided emotions
, the racist, sexist, deplorableness isn't working. Trump has never been accused of being a racist until he ran for President and Hillary did. Let's look at facts Hillary paid her male workers more, Trump the first major company to have women in upper management positions. Trump has about 92% of Republican backing. Now Hillary on the other hand look at that SMALL crowd of kids yesterday in Philadelphia and they were bored out of their minds, why they know she full of shit. Last poll has Trump at 19% with African Americans, why? maybe because Hillary mentor was a former KKK Grand Dragon, or she called black men SUPER PREDATORS, maybe because hubby Bill only golfed at WHITES ONLY golf courses, or just maybe black people are saying they want better jobs, school choice and safer streets something the Democrats haven't delivered. Trump up in Ohio ,Florida, has flipped Nevada and Iowa let's see how the country feels after these last 3 terrorist attacks.
Harold Lee, please name 1 bill she sponsored (not co-sponsored) in the Senate. Two of her 3 bills were to rename rest stops, name the other 1.Harold can you tell me how many jobs she created while Senator, I can tell you from documentation while she was the NY Senator, NY lost jobs after she promised to create 200,000 of them. When you mentioned outsourcing didn't Bill Clinton sign NAFTA which Hillary as per video supported?
I'm sorry, but you should always vote for the person who represents your politics, regardless of if they are in the two major parties or not. Jill Stein has far better politics and doesn't have the "enthusiasm" issue that Clinton has. The problem for Stein is the media doesn't take her campaign seriously.
Oh look, it's well-known political philosopher Kerry Washington. I care deeply what she thinks and has to say. Another example of pandering to trash celebrity culture.
Maybe Hillary should spend more time giving the policy speeches Bernie used to give to rooms full of tens of thousands of millennials, and less time collecting checks and drinking with her rich friends. Stop blaming the voter for your shitty candidate. Instead of trying to scare us with Trump, give me reason to vote for her, I'm desperate for one.
Hey Kerry Washington. Having kids is a choice. If people don't take into account maternity leave and child care cost, then maybe people should refrain from having kids. Don't you think? Why should people have to pay higher taxes to pay for child care? Why should companies have to pay for maternity leave?
Bill shoots blanks .... and still Bangs the Bimbos ...... according to Powell LOL .... Atta boy there Bill sorry that will not help Hilldabeast get votes though
Five kids, average 2.5 years each in diapers, average four diapers a day; probably 15-20k diaper changes. I'll vote for the Donald if he's changed 200 diapers in his life. Not a fucking chance.
In Bill Maher scenario , Hillary's corruption , wallstreet ties , warmongering , pro corporate , republican like voting record is the little spot ? How low will he go ?
I'm a generation X'er... I'm surrounded by millennials.... And EVERYONE in this panel, especially Maher, is missing the mark. The reason Why they aren't backing HILLARY is bcs THEY ARE INFORMED... YES, voting Trump is voting against your own interest.. I agree THAT MUCH. But the things Kerry listed as the reasons young ppl are turned off by her only shows that SHE IS the one WHO NEEDS TO DO A LITTLE MORE DIGGING and get more informed.
After listening to all sorts of voices say how mean Trump is, I finally just started watching his speeches. And OMG, he's a teddy bear! He's this loving father that's just so affable. Not quite as smooth as Reagan, but a really tender sweet guy. He'd be that neighbor who lives down the street that you'd want to talk to and listen to at bar b ques. If you vote for Hillary it means you don't think we have enough feminism. Which means you think it's cool what's happened to the American fam. You think it's just great that 60% of our inmates come from single parent families headed by women. Don't agree with me? Go check out all the anti-SJW videos here at RU-vid. SJWs and feminists are just about synonymous. Neither Trump nor Hillary can deliver on very many of their promises. But one thing Hillary will do is saddle us with a little more or a lot more feminism. Which should completely kill the American Fam.
deagleninja My comment wasn't hate it was astonishment. I was actually flabbergasted at the amount of ignorance and I guess gullibility? I just can't believe anyone could actually be so naive. I assumed it was some type of hero worship.
Pray tell, Ms Washington, just what has the democrat party done for the AA community over the past 50 years? Please tell us how much better off the black community is after nearly 8 years of the first black President. Are your people better off now than they were 8 years ago?
Claiming Trump is only running for the President for himself makes no sense. Why would a 70 year old billionaire want to run the country for 400,000 bucks a year if he didn't want to help the country he has seen falling apart. You may disagree with his policies but lets see who is really the candidate with their own self interests at the forefront
You're kidding, right? You don't get why a guy whose ego knows no bounds would want to add 'Leader of the Free World' to his resume? It's not the 400,000 bucks a year that gives this guy a hard on. It's the POWER of the Office, you numbnuts. Here's what'll happen if/when this guy wins the election. He'll do all the fun stuff like thumb his nose at world leaders he doesn't like, tell Congress to go fuck, start wars, practice his golf swing in the Rose Garden, sit with his feet up on the desk in the Oval Office smoking cigars...and all the rest of the really hard work it takes to run a country he'll sub out to his Cabinet, his kids and various underlings. He's a child's mentality in a man's body. Holy fuck, has this country's education system and news media failed miserably it's citizens.
WW3 has been on its way so lets not act like Trump is the one who is bringing the hate out of everyone across the world, secondly, so he is investing millions of dollars and putting all his time and effort into running for president just so he can smoke cigars (though he doesnt smoke or drink), start wars (with whom exactly), play golf (which our current president does much of), and tell congress to go fuck themselves (this i actually agree with because they are useless incompetent fucks so lets hope this happens), and if you think the president of the united states is a "fun" job then you would be mistaken. Yes I understand he isnt using all of his own money he has supporters now that are obviously funding him more than when he was making a big deal out of it, yes i understand that he is paying his kids with campaign money which i would understand to be paying the people campaigning for you with the money that is intended to do that, If we want to talk about people paying people in campaigns I would be more scared of the people donating and investing in Hilarys campaign because they are the ones who know that she will be better for our capitalist empire we have.
I wouldn't go so far, Liam, as to accuse Trump of 'bringing the hate out of everyone across the world,' but without a doubt he's bringing it out here at home--without a doubt. He knows where to trawl for votes; he knows his people; his base of support. Secondly, you seem to have missed the part where I cited Trump's enormous ego and the pursuit of power as Trump's reasons for investing time, money and effort into pursuing the Oval Office--not so he could smoke cigars, play golf, etc., as you've indicated I suggested, which I simply did not. Pay closer attention. Neither did I say the job of President of the United States was a 'fun job.' ...did not say that. Re-read what I wrote: "...the really hard work it takes to run a country." I wrote it was 'hard work,' not a 'fun job.' I suggested (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) that Trump would do the 'fun' stuff while others did the real work, the hard work, of governing. I think this is a fairly accurate portrayal of what a Trump presidency would look like. Trump is an owner of a company. He's used to having the last word. He gives a directive and it's carried out according to his wishes. If it's not..."You're fired." It doesn't work that way in Washington. He can't fire Congress. He has to work with them, like it or not, and there will be as many people telling him 'no' as there will be telling him 'yes...on one condition.' He's going to find out quickly what a pain in the ass that is, and then just as quickly become bored with a process that doesn't line up every morning just to kiss his ass. Then you'll have a president on your hands whose bored, hates his job, and has three and a half more years left in his term before he can leave office. God help us then. Hillary may not be a 'perfect' candidate, but she is the only serious one in this race. Trump is a circus act. He attracts his following by making promises he can't possibly deliver on (making Mexico pay for the wall??) by making outrageous, impossible claims (knows more about ISIS than the generals??) and by stirring up hatred and appealing to the baser instincts of simple-minded bigots (Muslim ban, illegal immigrant Mexican rapists, etc.) Clinton, on the other hand, is qualified up the wazoo for the job of president, having served in the Senate and as Secretary of State. She knows how things get done and don't get done in Washington, she knows the 'horse trading' it takes to get legislation passed; the deal-making involved. Talk about 'the art of the deal,' she knows it, she's done it. America's best chance for the next four years is Clinton gets elected, and Sanders and Warren hold her feet to the fire to get the big money and corporate influence out of politics and legislating.
Kerry Washington says she wants to vote for the candidate who takes accountability AKA the woman who wasn't charged for what any average civilian would be already in prison for.
I am a liberal but I don't get why we as tax payers should have to fund the choice of someone when they decide to have a kid. If you can't afford a child don't have one. And before you say that it isn't a choice, we don't live in the middle east, women are free today to make choices, and having a baby is a choice. People seem to put my thinking time into what colour car they will buy or which game console they will choose.
Here are some simple guidelines for listening to the talking heads. There is a basic rule in conducting interviews and interrogations: "Did he answer the question? No? Then he answered the question." In other words, if a simple direct question is asked, it should get a simple direct answer. If the answer is long and drawn out, the person being questioned is trying to buy time to figure out how to avoid answering the question and hoping they can bury the whole thing in an avalanche of words.
The American Government and the American People have already shit all over their best Candidate, Rand Paul. The only interest that Trump and Hillary give three shits about, is that of themselves and the corporations that are backing their candidacy. The last thing on their minds is The American People.
There is really no point in voting for a third-party candidate if you don't like Trump because if Trump gets in then you have no right to complain. It's a two horse race, just accept it.
So offering maternity leave is a bad thing when a Republican offers it? Of course everyone would like 6 weeks paid but the fact is maternity leave is to recovery from pregnancy and effectively bound with a newborn, which is very important.
