In this video I take a look at the technical data and use of the new for 2018 FDE Kershaw Camp 10. It is a new version of a camp blade that is a couple years old. Keep in mind that they wouldn't have given it a face lift if it wasn't already a solid performer for the camp line. A candid look at the 2018 Kershaw Camp 10, tan version FDE, Kukri style large camp workhorse. bring on the big chores!

That is one of the best, most concise reviews I have ever seen. You nailed every possible point I believe you could have covered...and thanks for showing a proper method for tying a lanyard. The simple basic loop, like a swing on the wrist, always seemed a bit unsafe for my liking! Excellent review.

Couple years ago my son wanted a kukri for christmas. But when I went to Cabella's a few days before Xmas (cause I suck at Chritmasing) they were all sold out. The only thing mildly resembling a kukri was the the camp 10 so I (with some disapointment) purchaded it for my son. In the months that followed, I was so completly blown away by sheer amout of abuse and punishment this thing could take, I bought one for every member of my family, and will probably continue to buy them for friends (btw, if you want to know how much punishment a knife can take - just give it to a 13yr old boy for a few months. Our little tests are bullshit by comparison lol). I wouldn't say that this is just the best knife for the money - but I'd go as far as to say it's one of the most solid knives out there period.

Cool, thanks for that information. I like it so far but I dont use it much because I have a few that I have made, that I prefer. This one is more of a "camp loaner" in my wall tent kit now.

I wouldn't buy a Chinese blade, but the review from Tac (Tactical Show) and his Small Machete Shoot Out convinced me into getting one. Never regretted it, bought the grey version for about 35 Dollars on Amazon and have been using it daily for several years now. Best knife for the money (okay okay, on par with the Skrama from Varuteleka :)). This thing chops, hacks, delimbs, batons and you can even use it for finer woodwork too. Buy one, you will love it! As a little tip I would like to advise to use some hockey tape on the handle, it will be the most comfortable handle you have ever felt, guaranteed!

MfG

My buddy and I just got back from a 3 day trip in the Great Smokey Mountains. Not a dry piece of wood anywhere. We carry a saw to cut logs. The Camp10 split Hemlock logs with ease. Performed great. Batons like a champ. Used a larger limb as a sledgehammer. I beat this thing into the ground and it kicked ass. I love this thing. Lost a little bit of the finish but there’s not a Knick or structural flaw to be found. Best tool I own. Packed easily. Light weight. Bad Mutha F er!! Good job Kershaw! Well done.

Thanks for a great review. I watch many reviews and you hit the sweet spot. Enough detail. Real world. Thoughtful. Something I would trust. BTW I do like this knife. A lot. Surprising to me that there are not more large recurves out there. Besides the sharpening thing and maybe sheath fit, there seem to be so many advantages to a curved edge. Again though, many thanks for this great contribution to knife knowledge online.

@MichaelTravis12c27
@MichaelTravis12c27 6 лет назад
I’ve considered that knife in the past but never went ahead and purchased one. I’ll pass on it since that role is filled by my Skrama bush knife. The Skrama runs about $30-40 more but it’s the best blade of its type that I’ve used to date. (Including some high end customs)
@MakersMovementDIY
@MakersMovementDIY 6 лет назад
Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors I have some really nice large customs, some I have made and some not, I also have some nice productions from Tops and the like. But there is a certain value in a tool that I can consider expendable as well. But I feel you bro. Some blade are just like old friends that can never be replaced.

The "rattle" in the sheath means, it is wide enough for putting it in an out while working safely like with a quiver. I found out you can stop the rattle entirely by just laying the snap strap back around the beltloop strap. That way there is more pressure on the knife.

I can't speak for Kershaw but that seems to be the case. I think both versions look good depending on what kit they are paired with....personally I would prefer one in olive. I think that would meet both standards and would look cool also.
@Tarsan97

Absolutely a cool looking knife. It is my experience that many people get a hugh knife when what they really needed was a good field axe. The knife has a sharp point for piercing, the axe not, but beside from that a good field axe can do everything a knife can and off course for chopping an axe is always better

Hi Dave, like your channel and since you asked for our thoughts and opinions I thought I'd share mine. I don't own the Kershaw but one of my friends do and left it with my for a couple weeks to play with so I do have some experience with it. In general I think it's a decent blade. It chops well and handles nicely. For the money it's a good deal. I'm into knives, axes, big choppers and machetes and have a pretty good sized collection. I live out in the sticks and have done a lot of wood cutting and machete work most of my life. That being said I thought I'd make a few suggestions as far as big blades and choppers in the price range of your Kershaw. Ontario makes the SP5 and SP10 that are really great choppers and work knives. Plus they are made in the USA which is great especially considering their cost. Cold Steel also makes some great choppers that are about half the price of the Kershaw. I've owned most of their machetes and while the two that come to mind are slightly larger. The magnum kukri and heavy machetes are the ones I'm talking about. Both are fairly lightweight and are extremely efficient choppers for under twenty dollars. I may end up adding that Kershaw to my kukri style blade collection. I used to think kukri blades were kinda ugly till I used one. Now they are some of my favorites.

It seems to be a very good tool. We wanted to get one for testing and own use but when we realised that it has a fake, plastic (rubber) pommel, which only looks as if it could be used for e.g. crushing the ice but is useless in reality - we decided to look for another camp machete/knife. We do not think that adding a functional tang pommel suitable for crushing the ice is extremely difficult and would significantly increase the costs yet if such feature would be present in this particular knife/machete it would add to it a new dimension of applications. The handle could also be made from micarta or wood instead of this cheap rubber/plastic.even if it would make this machenife or kifete a bit more expensive.

Could a person heat the sheath with a heat gun and place it under a weight to tighten up retention?
@MakersMovementDIY

DezDawg I suppose you could if you were brave enough. It is plastic not kydex so if it is overheated it will be ruined.

The cookery was made to the Hackett jungle and large bushes not chop wood yes it doesn't fairly decent because of its large size and heavy blade but additional knives in this country in America is been fixed blade by the American Indians which is between 5 and 6 in glass rock and if they used a metal it be no bigger 8in the most the largest bladed weapons Native Americans used was a spear and they ran between 8 and 12 in double sided blade and for centuries they had no reason to change a heavier blade

U just chopped a poor oak tree, Schrade makes one exactly the same kukri style same quality and even cheaper.

Make it in the US with American steel and I would be happy to pay three times the amount rather than a Chinese made knife 🔪 👍🏻🇦🇺

Great review. Made in China? Sorry , that's a deal breaker.
@MakersMovementDIY

Not always, sometimes you need a blade that is "expendable" but probably won't break.

@@MakersMovementDIY being a bladesmith, I don't consider any blade expendable. China makes some good steel. I just won't buy chinese products.
@MakersMovementDIY
@MakersMovementDIY 3 года назад
I get that. Buut buying from China is practically unavoidable these days. Especially for people living on a budget. I am also a bladesmith and maker of just about everything and I can't even avoid Chinese products. Even my American machines are made with Chinese parts. A noble pursuit that most of us cannot live up to. Never the less I wish you luck.

I don't like Chinese knives and I don't trust Chinese, I just spend a little more money and I choose Silky nata , that's the hatchet I tested for several times and it's never embarrassed me in hard times
