I believe this was what Flogging Molly's "Salty Dog" was based on. Love this one!

Great tune ! I learned this years ago from a Bothy Band Cassette; they run it into 'Give us a drink of water' (slip jig)and I always here it that way in my head. I love that I can pick up a mandolin and still play this...but can't remember what day it is or my mobile number 🙂.

Beautiful tone. I wish I could produce it when I play! I'm still a novice so hope to be able to in the future. Thank you for all of your wonderful tutorials too. ❤️

A little too gentrified for my liking, it looses it's wildnest, being played by a violinist, I'd rather it was played by a fiddler - but to each his own.

It's obviously someone who has learned the tune from a book and does not understand that they're only getting the bare bones (ie. an aide-memoire). People who have no real relationship with a folk music and dance culture often don't know how to play the tune as a dance tune; introduce rhythm, articulation, phrasing and variation to make the tune live.
