First the stock doves wanting to nest, then a Buzzard attack, and now a Kestrel! Our Barn Owl pair are really having to defend their box!
Apologies for the dirty internal camera. They came back to full residence before we had a chance to clean it.
Many thanks for our lovely Moderators and Subscribers that time stamp these amazing events for us.

the mom went into the nest because the kestrel has little chance inside. 👏

When the Owl goes back inside, he tells his mate "Hide, I want the Kestrel to think I'm alone, then when he comes in, we'll jump him and have him for dinner"

@@remyogun8270 Yes, one of the least aggressive owl towards humans, but they are predators, I'm sure their prey would describe them as VERY AGGRESSIVE when ripping them apart.
@remyogun8270
@remyogun8270 25 дней назад
@@mikeef747 no. My point is that they are not keen on attacking nor killing other Raptors. In fact, they are more commonly preyed upon by more formidable raptors, and other owl species.

they fight each other a lot. it is like an ancient rivalry. the owls is clever, wanting to bring the fight inside, where its larger size and strength is to its advantage and the agility of the kestrel is nullified. very clever.

American Kestrels AKA sparrow hawks nest in hollow trees or abandoned woodpecker nests . This likely this was an attempt by a female sparrow hawk steal the nest site from the Owl that didn't end well . Female sparrow hawks are larger than the males .
@remyogun8270
@remyogun8270 26 дней назад
Calling a kestrel, a sparrowhawk is incorrect. Sparrowhawks are actually a species of accipiter. The term that you’re using, it’s quite dated, and antiquated
@kls2020
@kls2020 25 дней назад
@@remyogun8270 from Audubon website AMERICAN SPARROW-HAWK, Falco sparverius ( AKA American Kestral ) Video was an American Barn owl against an American Sparrow Hawk squabbling over a nesting site . I don't believe we have any Eurasian sparrow hawks (accipiter) residing in the US . The bird in the video fighting with the barn owl is clearly not an accipiter

What is with these Kestrels constantly trying to steal the nests of owls? I had no idea this was even a real thing but it is. I have seen so many videos of it and in everyone...the owls are literally whooping the kestrels. Spanking them over their knee...if they had them. When will they learn to just find an uninhabited spot?
