Genie, an imprinted Nankeen Kestrel, is being prepared for release to a new location after continually returning to her previous home. 3 - 4 weeks of letting her out for a feed and returning her to the aviary, hopefully, will be enough to leave the aviary door open!

I saw a whole bunch of these driving past all these farms. They hover in mid-air till they find a nice plump mouse for breakfast. Awesome birds.

the track into the gravel pit I am using has a fence line. it is regularly patrolled by one of these. Handsome bird. Yes even UP CLOSE and personal. I have had to brake firmly to avoid collisions. Vehicle is a prime mover and triaxle side tipper. Difficult to catch a photo of it though. At first i thought it was a Hobby. But thanks to you video I can say Kestrel. Cheers, great video and I love the music.

Hello friend, how long did it take you to train this beautiful kestrel, I have one of these and I have been with him for 2 days and I am watching videos about kestrel training. Congrats friend

This bird had been hand raised from a chick by some one else. I received her at 2 years of age and she was very well trained before I got her. She was a one in a million bird!

@@eleanorriver Good friend, well trained. It is to have a lot of patience and perseverance to these birds. congratulations!

They are so light on their wings. I had one for 6 months. My uncle found it injured in the mid north. It seemed to recover completely and eventually, Parks and Wildlife came and took it. I think it got euthanized by them (there was a story on Today Tonight or something a few weeks later). This reminds me exactly of how it used to fly onto my arm.

How did you train it to do that ?
@eleanorriver
@eleanorriver 7 лет назад
Joshua Rodriguez-Ruiz , Genie had been hand raised from a chick and she came into our care at about age 2. Like training any animal it's all about food. If she was over fed she would not be interested in coming in at all. She was very unique as a bird of prey. Because of her human contact it was thought that she would have problems surviving in the wild and it was to our great surprise that when she was eventually released that she mated with a wild kestrel and nested under our back verandah producing 2 gorgeous chicks. On her release she would always come in late in the afternoon for a feed and then sleep in our shed. Eventually after her 5th year with us she didn't return.

I shot few of these nasty birds, they kills songbirds which is not ok with me. I see them in the bush when I go hunting with my camera but the hunting is only for birds of prey, they tick me off because they are lazy, they do not bother with mice and rats, they go after songbirds.

Dont get caught or brag on social media bc it is against the law federally einstein
@maurits150

That is a very, VERY revolting thing to do.... They are not lazy- they are optimized to retrieve food in whatever manner is the easiest. A bird that catches easy prey will survive, and thus the trait gets re-enforced through evolution. There have been tons of song birds to go around as food for birds of prey for millions and millions and millions of years. What gives you the damn right to hand out a death sentence to falcons that are only doing, what they have evolved to do, for way longer than humans have even existed??? The only reason the song bird population is dwindling is because of humans (and their glorious pet Felidaes) destroying their habitat! You should be shooting those instead if you want to make a difference!!

If you're telling the truth then you're an idiot. First, for believing that they don't eat 10 times as many insects and small rodents as they do birds, and second, for violating a major international treaty and bragging about it online.
@davidronson8712
@davidronson8712 4 года назад
@@jasonpatterson8091 the us and israel keep breaching international treaties, so do I, I even waste every snake I see , they are pests. the numbers of small song birds is dropping fast for 2 reasons, predators are one of the reasons, your friends the birds of preys and the wireless garbage from cell phone to your everything that has a remote , they are killing the insects that baby birds need to grow, in early spring I have 15 suet feeders , birds come to get food for their babies , I spend $2000 in 2 months of breading season just on suets not counting the normal food such sunflower seeds and other grains. Do you expect me to leave them for the birds of prey to snack on? Shotgun shells number 4 will send them to their resting place fast.

You are wrong with regards the Nankeen kestrel. This birds diet is mainly mice, small lizards, crickets and other medium size insects. Your attitude is a perfect example of why humans are the main contributor to the mindless destruction of the worlds flora and fauna. Not all falcons attack smaller birds and those that do only do so in order to survive, which is nature doing what it does.
