If you have severe depression, PTSD, or anxiety that just won’t go away despite therapy and medication you should know about Ketamine. 30-40% of people with depression have treatment resistant depression (that means that you’ve tried at least 2 types of medication and it isn't helping). And scientists and doctors are really excited about the potential for ketamine as a new and effective treatment for mood disorders, PTSD, and Chronic Pain.
Ketamine has been approved by the FDA for anesthetic for operations for decades. And in the 80's and 90's it became a party drug known as special K. But scientists in the late 90’s started to realize that glutamate, a neurotransmitter in the brain, may play a huge role in depression so they started to look for a medication that impacted glutamate- and voila- ketamine was the drug.
Ketamine is known to modulate the glutamate receptors in your brain, glutamate is an amino acid that the neurons in your brain use to communicate. Where SSRIs slow the reuptake of serotonin, ketamine targets a completely different system in the brain- glutamate and connectivity. SSRI’s usually take 3-8 weeks to see results.
But ketamine reduces the symptoms of depression, usually quite rapidly (within 24 hours) and the effects of one treatment can last weeks to months.
So ketamine reduces the symptoms, but we don’t know if it treats the underlying causes of depression. Obviously when depression is a normal response to challenging experiences, no drug is going to solve those problems, but it may give the brain enough of a leg up so that you can get functioning again to face those problems.
We still don’t have enough studies to know the effectiveness on a large scale, but initial outcomes appear to show effectiveness with 60-85% of people with severe depression. This is huge for a group of people who felt no meaningful improvement on antidepressants.

In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.

My dad was able to get ketamine treatment for his job-related ptsd from being a firefighter and paramedic and it’s really helped him to be more stable and improve so other interventions can help more. It’s been such a blessing for our family because he’s been fighting to get better for years and it’s been very difficult to see him struggle and his ptsd has affected all of us deeply. Slowly, I’m starting to see my dad come back and heal in ways I never would have thought possible and that wouldn’t have been possible without the ketamine treatment and the charity that funded his treatment.

@blueskiesmedia417I don't know where you're from, but please know that not all therapists are bad. Most of the ones I've had these 41 years have been great. I've had a grand total of one bad one and one strange one. I've also been on a ton of SSRIs and one SNRI with no success, but it's all about trial and error. You can't put all your eggs in one basket. Whatever you've been diagnosed with sounds severe. You seem very distrustful of people with authority. In this case, therapists and psychiatrists. Ketamine costs thousands if you're getting the infusion. If you have insurance, you may be able to get the nasal spray treatment at a lower cost. That's what I'm hoping for once my psychiatrist gives the all clear. You are not dead without ketamine, unless you're threatening to off yourself. If that's the case, you need to be monitored by professionals. I get where you're coming from when it comes to feeling hopeless and helpless. It fucking sucks, man. It sucks worse when nothing is working and you don't know why. Being drug resistant is fucking terrible. I'm absolutely terrified of doing the ketamine treatment, because I'm fearful I'll be part of the 20% that sees no improvement from it. I'm scared that this seems like my last resort at feeling some semblance of normalcy in my damn life. I'm telling you all this shit because you need to hear it. You need to know that you're not alone in this fucked up boat of depression millions of us are riding. You need to fucking know that your fucking life is worth every fucking moment people spend helping you. The reality is that you've given up on yourself and that's not okay. You're a human fucking being with feelings. You deserve to be listened to and helped. You deserve to finally have some fucking peace in your life. I don't know what you've been through, but I can assure you it doesn't have to be the thing that beats you into submission. I've had so many moments in my life where I've felt like giving up, but I keep going because I love my loved ones. It would kill them if I offed myself and that's not something I want. Every therapy session, every medication I try, every tool I learn, every baby step towards something better is mainly done because I want a better tomorrow with my fiance, friends, and family. Pick something outside of yourself to strive for. Something that moves you forward. It doesn't matter if it's a passion of yours, a friend, family member, or even your dog. Keep moving forward for that one thing. Living with autoimmunity, severe depression, and C-PTSD is fucking debilitating, but I refuse to give up. And neither should you. You are your own worst enemy right now, not the therapists and not the medication. You. It's a reality I had to learn the hard way. I am responsible for my life. You are responsible for yours. Give yourself permission to keep trying.

I started my Spravato three sessions ago. This has been a game changer for me. First, it hasn't completely removed my depression or my anxiety. With that being said, there has been a DRAMATIC changes to my mood and thinking. There are still moments when I feel depressed, sad, or anxious. But the timing has shortened dramatically. The biggest shift is this openness to be kind to myself. I also have felt it easier to let go of past trauma and come to accept a lot of things that I haven't been able to let go of in therapy. I've suffered from major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder for 13 years now. Spravato feels like its saved my life and for the first time in over a decade, I have hope for living a better future.

I started ketamine recently. This video doesn’t include the way I take mine, which is via microdosing. I take approximately 4 mg every 4 hours. So understand this is also an option. You don’t go on a trip like the other treatment. With that said, it’s been a miracle for my me. I am/ was a 911 dispatcher. My symptoms are major cognitive issues where I couldn’t put my thoughts together in to words, memory issues, major pain from clenching and being hyper vigilant, major anxiety, depression and more… The ketamine costs me $50/ a month without insurance. I highly recommend. I get it from my pain doctor who is also a psychiatrist.

60yr old Female: I did off label treatment ...six infusions over a 4 week period. I can tell you honestly it was life-saving. It was over 2 years ago and I've been pretty stable since I am on 60 mg of cymbalta for fibromyalgia/depression currently. I still have bouts of depression but I'm able to pick myself up in a way that feels like healthy/dare I say "normal" people can. If you are on the fence about this treatment I say this: you can thank me later for running full tilt at you to knock you off the fence and into treatment!! Honestly the best part was the literal "lifting" effect within a day or two of the first treatment. This noticable lifting was the only reason I went back for the second. I won't lie to you or lie by omission... It scared the crap out of me!! I had a mix of good and really bad trips. But this was it for me... Do or die. If you or someone you love is anticipating this treatment I'll tell you what I told my administrator " it's almost counterproductive because the ego death you experience makes death less frightening". SO DON'T DO THIS WITHOUT PERSONS OF ACCOUNTABILITY IN PLACE FOR YOU/Your loved one!! However, the insidious thing about my depression which stems from severe childhood trauma and abuse is that the depression for me was like wearing a hair shirt (look up biblical meaning). The painful heaviness wore me down... tamped me down... Just wore me out from being who I really was. ...who I was really meant to be which is a happy positive person. After the second treatment color began to return to my life. ...literal color. I'm an artist and gardener...color is everything! It was when the color began to return that I realized that not only had I been weighed down but I was living in a black and white world. This next reawakening spurred even more determination and HOPE! full disclosure: I never did drugs or alcohol... My mother did enough of that for me and half the county... So admittedly I was beyond a light weight. I shook like the last leaf on the fall tree before every session I was so afraid. But I went... And I followed through... And it worked!! One of the scariest... not hardest... but scariest things I've ever done. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT TO DO AND FOLLOW THROUGH WITH!! If you have drug experience you may not be as frightened as I was... Great for you!!... I'm truly happy for you... but I feel the need to warn ...yet encourage... others like myself who may not have that experience. In one session the light and love of my life was taken from me... DISINTEGRATED from my clutching arms just before I fell into an abyss/ black hole of nothingness. EGO DEATH....It was the most terrifying experience of my life that became the most peaceful experience of my life. I could ramble on more than I already have here... but suffice it to say I don't regret it... I recommend it ...and I personally would do it again if necessary. I don't think I'd be here today had I not done it and my life definitely wouldn't be as intact as it is today without it. Do it! I wish you the very best!! 💔.............❤️!

The trips are intense and scary and beautiful too but it taxes your mind and body so much don’t expect to do anything productive on your treatment days just surround yourself with beauty and eat well. U have to devote a lot of energy to this ketamine options way more than I thought myself. Praying it helps my anxiety still is there but maybe I feel I’ve gained some positive insight to my life and life in general so far. Just know you have to still put in the work almost more with this because you’re essentially left raw and fresh ready to take in new input. Surround yourself with only good and live your best kindest life and put in the hard work with therapy and diet and meditation and good people like Eckart Tolle and like minded. Thank you for being honest about your less-than-positive experience. From what you describe, it sounds like since anxiety is the issue, hypnotherapy would've been a much better option. Less expensive, and less taxing. Of course, you have to find a provider that you trust, who is competent, and with whom you vibe with because, like therapy, it's the trust and connection that will enable you to go to the subconscious level and do the mental clean up work that needs to take place. Regardless, your comment is very helpful to let people know that they're a bit of a blank slate afterward and THAT is when the real work begins. Many people seem to want instant gratification, but so few things in life ever work that way.

Long post ahead: I'm in a pilot program where we're using daily, low-dose ketamine in sublingual troches that are compounded by a local pharmacy. It's both easier and way cheaper ($65 for a 3-month supply). The ideal window to take it is 9-12 months. My doctor started doing this to remove some of the barriers to receiving ketamine treatment - the cost, the need to take time off for infusions and how the effects don't always last past the 3 months. For me, it's been a gradual, gentle improvement. I've been on it full-time for 4 months, with a 20 day step-up period. It feels more like it's fertilizing and tilling the soil so my neurons can grow back, versus maybe a sudden jungle growth spurt from infusions. There's no trip - it just makes me sleepy. I'm also on medications for other stuff which were interacting, so we've had to work with adjusting their doses. I'm still on the baby starter dose - 25 mg daily. A lot of her other patients are on 50-75 mg daily. Our goal is to get to 50mg for improved results, but we're taking our time, given the other med adjustments. I wouldn't say it's a miracle turn-around, but at this dose, I don't think it's supposed to be. It's more like parts of me that have been walled off are integrating back in, if that makes sense. Like at this point, I'm back in my body. I definitely have WAY more resilience and things are so much more comfortable in my head. And I have more motivation to do the things that make me feel better. But it's not the "I'm connected to the universe" feeling I think the infusions give. Just wanted to share. She's doing work in the community to educate other doctors on using ketamine this way, as she has so many patients that have drastically turned around, but not enough hours in the day to accept new patients. I have hope that trying it this way will remove more barriers for people that could benefit, but can't afford it.

@@skfhdsjknldgfv Thanks for letting me know about this. I had no idea about Joyous, but when I just looked it up, yup, sounds exactly the same. I'll let my psychiatrist know about it too. Yeah, I really can't tolerate the higher doses at the moment. I just tried to go up to 50mg, and by day 4, I couldn't stop sleeping, lol. So I may need to do it every 3 days or something (25, 25, 50). I guess it affects all of us differently, especially when you add other meds into the mix. My doc has everyone go on a slow, slow taper, to make sure we're tolerating it. I figure that whatever dose helps and is well tolerated, that's the dose to be at. Just be aware, the club use of it, the K-Hole thing? That's at 200mg. I see Joyous is advertising their ketamine as very low-dose, but I don't think 100mg qualifies for the "very" part anymore? I may be talking out my ass, but even my doc is only letting patients go up to 75mg, and from what I understand, that's more to help with chronic pain on top of mental health affects.

One thing I think people should know is working things out in counseling before and after treatment is important. From my experience, Ketamine did wash out my depression but I went back to sever depression because I didn’t leave my negative lifestyle. Tomorrow will be 4th session 4 of 4 before deciding if/when to do 2 more. After my 2nd treatment I had life-ruining bombshell hit. I am managing it sososo much better. ALSO IMPORTANT: I was Rx'd 10mg beta blocker, propanalol. I truly believe these 2 things jumpstarted a 'reset' for me. Less self-discipline required. I feels much more natural and wise in my self-management. At 63 it's beyond incomprehensible to possibly know how many experiences we go thru that can end up being a huge pile of trauma we get stuck ruminating and weigh us down. Ketamine is awesome for a much needed reset after all we've been thru. Ruminating for me is now easier to put on the back burner. Yes, I have grief, but not going to waste time ruminating it unless I schedule it in to my day. Wow!! I'm slowed down mentally... adhd/neurodivergence has my brain racing thru thoughts in a negative way. Less now. I feel more patience with things/comments/etc., that bug me. Also nice. MJ is also helpful, but ketamine is great for us. Also also... nutrition dense diet is HUGE for me as well. I had no idea. Great info out there today. Dr Mark Hyman is my hero.

It gave me a lot of hope that things will be fine, this is the one thing that I heard throughout the trip: Everything is alright. I’m definitely going to give this treatment a try (as soon as I apply for CareCredit or the like), but I’m on the fence about doing it at-home or in clinic. At-home is widely available, convenient and a much cheaper option (for example, $399/mo with WonderMed & includes 4 doses/mo + NAD) than in clinic (more like $1300-2000+ for 4 treatments). But I am a bit nervous doing it alone at home and I also have read that the in-clinic infusions are more bioavailable than the oral doses for at-home treatment. Any info from anyone here on this inquiry is greatly appreciated!

God bless you thanks for sharing that Your words touched me as I can relate to much of how you are feeling. I pray that the ketamine treatment greatly helps your symptoms to a point where you see yourself as well as your life in a positive and beautiful light and I pray the Lord Jesus take away any and all pain, physical and emotional, psychological and spiritual inflictions or ideation of self harm or suicide will be removed entirely from your thoughts and from every aspect of your life. I am not sure if you believe in God or not but I can tell you that personally, my connection to Almighty God and to His Son, our saviour Jesus Christ, has been my ketamine😉 It's difficult to stay happy though so I find that if I'm not constantly reading scripture or praying, the devil quickly turns my thought to more negative things so ketamine likely would be useful but as a single mother on a fixed disability income, it's really not affordable for me. Anyway, if you do or don't believe in God, just know that I do believe and have faith and in saying that, I have the ultimate faith that you and everyone here reading this message will ultimately be healed and the slate wiped clean for Ll of us. May the Lord give you the peace that comes from knowing Him and may He rebuke and destroy any and all demons including the spirit of depression, the spirit of self harm, the spirits of addiction and of failure, and every and all unclean and impure spirits sent by the devil and may He replace those demons with His righteous, healing and overwhelmingly perfect angels to watch over you and to protect you mind, heart, body, and soul! The psychiatrist I see for spravato is very interested in alternative treatments to the pharmacological options we have now, because our current medication options aren’t particularly effective. What he’s learned from the courses he’s taking on the subject is that it appears to be incredibly effective for people who have experienced trauma. He’s really excited about that because existing medication really isn’t very effective for trauma. Also, he said that the studies seem to show that it’s particularly effective when used during therapy sessions.

My dear friend just committed suicide. He was a VietNam vet who came back with PTSD and multiple problems that he just couldn't resolve. He was a war hero, but none of that mattered to him. He lived well, he was an amazing human being. The psych world was bad to him. He ended up in trouble with the law and they nearly killed him. If he could have gotten the help he NEEDED he would still be here. I feel so bad for all the vets (and everyone else dealing with PTSD and depression) that NEED help, but for one reason or another don't get it. The last time I went to see a counselor I was told to, "get over it". No one needs to hear that. What is wrong with these therapists? I’ve had ketamine treatments and I micro dose psilocybin every other day. I find that the two work very well in concert. Meanwhile I’m tapering off my SSRI (shrooms seem to help lessen side effects) and will next attempt to taper of my anticonvulsant mood stabilizer. I have bipolar 1 and CPTSD. My illness has been stubborn. I’ve been dealing actively with changing myself for the better since 1992. I’ve talked and cried and screamed most, if not all, my trauma out. Ketamine has made me feel better than I have in decades. My newfound thought connectivity helps me to understand and get the most benefit out of therapy. The mood elevation of both drugs helps me make healthy choices and want to put down destructive habits. Psychedelic medicine has already done more for my mood disorder and dysregulation than anything else. I highly recommend it. This video is highly informative and a potential lifeline for those who suffer intractable depression.

@@foodie4128 it’s pretty much up to you. I know a guy who takes 500 mg every other day(!). Tolerance does build up, which is why most folks don’t do it every day. I checked out some RU-vid vids before I started, and most are saying 100-150 mgs every other day or even every third day. Some protocols call for 4 days on, two off (that doesn’t work for me). 150 mgs is roughly 1/10th of a dose that brings on hallucinogenic effects. I don’t feel anything but a bit of mood elevation/regulation. Definitely feel both calmer and more energetic. I get it from a friend who grows. I grind them up, weigh out 150 mgs and put them in gel capsules.

Goodness gracious, Dustin... I am so sorry to hear how bad this treatment was for you. I have struggled with a crippling amount of depression, anxiety, addictions for the past 20 years - and I'd give anything to do Ket therapy and be one of the many success stories... But experiences like the one that you sadly had are just unacceptable, and my heart goes out to you more than I can put into words. I hope that you are able to heal from this treatment that has tragically failed you, and find the healing, happiness and true contentment that your soul needs and deserves. Best of luck to you.

I think that your information is very helpful, except for the advice to avoid home treatment options. I have been doing ketamine therapy this way, and find that it is a much better setting to have the type of transformative/psychedelic experience than in hospitals or doctor offices. I have a very professional support team, consisting of my clinician, guides, integration circles, and am monitored during sessions by someone I trust. Set and setting are both essential to getting long-lasting improvements from this type of therapy, as well as clearly defining intentions before heading out the door, so to speak. I don’t work for any of these places, but I probably should at this point. As someone who is filled with anxiety at the mere suggestion of being inside a clinic, home treatment was a game changer for me. There is no way that I would have been able to conjure the right mindset to do this inside of one, much less walk away with anything valuable. I will also note that my dosage is carefully controlled, and that the benefits and memorable effects of ketamine treatment are not present in higher dosages. There is not any real reason for people to do a bunch more of it when that actually detracts from the experience. The cost was less than 1000$ for my initial round of 6 total treatments, and less for my second round. Thats significantly less than spravato or intravenous treatments. It is also a lozenge, not a needle or nose thing, which I appreciate. Please reconsider your advice against home-based treatment options

@BRITTABURRITO
@BRITTABURRITO Год назад
@@partlysimpson5154 it is all about what you do for integration. Every session is a chance to re-wire the machine, so I find that I use my sessions for different things once I feel ready to take on something else. The changes I’ve made because of my integration work have stuck, but I’ve put in the work. That being said, ketamine is the key to making actual change possible because it allows me to see what actions I need to take, and then execute them. Regular therapy seems to only get me to the point of knowing about my problems- not why, not how they are interconnected, and certainly doesn’t give me the mojo to make more than a New Years resolution style jab at them. Ketamine does. And once the changes are wired in, they really do seem to stay. I don’t have the crippling anxiety, depression, panic attacks or frequent ptsd triggers that I did before. I now see fear as a signal, and not an alarm, which means that I can respond with consideration, and that really does make all the difference. I was literally too beat down to get back up on my own this time last year.

Ketamine was both a miracle and a disappointment for me. I’m no longer suicidal and my psychiatrist thinks it’s the best possible outcome but for 7k in costs out of pocket, I’m still depressed. For me, it saved me from in patient treatment and stopped my chronic suicidality. It didn’t make much of a difference in being depressed.

Ketamine compared to the “Hero Dose” of psilocybin for me was very different. The experiences do have some similarities, but for the most part, what my mind and body felt for each were two very different experiences. Ketamine also does not have as many physical side effects while “sobering” up as psilocybin does, which I really prefer. But I still use both and they aren’t the complete solution to my depression/anxiety/ptsd, but they are both very helpful tools in making hard days/weeks a little easier and allow me to work on applying the skills I learn in therapy.

I read about ketamine and psilocybin and yes, I believe it could very well be a great thing. I remember first reading about the psilocybin trials and reading about what patients described as a "cold reboot of a computer system" and having the effects last months. Now these patients chosen for the trial were drug resistant depression and bi-polar patients. Some even had the shock treatments and that didn't help much. After one treatment these patients had instant improvement. One thing nags at me and that's the "tripping" part of it. Now I'm going to be honest here and say that yes, I have had some experience with psychedelics. One thing a person should never do is use it if your head is in a bad place because of having a bad trip. How is it that there's such a low instance of bad trips in patients already in a very bad place in their heads? Or is that that these treatments' results are that immediate? Great video. I've shared this with a few family members who are suffering.

I have done IV Ketamine treatments. Going into the treatment it is important to have acceptance and a word of dedication for the trip such as "I am worthy, I am healing, I am letting go." Being prepared for the trip and meditating, etc. Beforehand really helps to have a better trip. The times I was not as prepared my trip was less enjoyable.
