Cancer. The word no one wants to hear. A terrifying diagnosis with treatments aptly named "toxic" therapies.
Dr. Angela Poff is a leading researcher investigating revolutionary, non-toxic metabolic therapies for cancer. Ketones are a leading candidate for that role.
How do different types of cancer respond to ketones? How do different types of ketones affect cancer cells? The answers to these questions could revolutionize the way we treat one of the most feared and deadly diseases.
Both ketogenic diets and exogenous ketone therapy show tremendous promise, but the science is still mostly in the pre-clinical stage, meaning non-human studies. Dr. Poff is on the front lines of this important research, helping us make progress toward evidence-based answers.

I’ve known two people who halted cancer by going on an all meat/animal diet. They took in zero carbs. Zero. The cancer stopped spreading and over time went away.

She’s so smart ! Great info ! But it was so frustrating when never answers the question about what cancers will it benefit or not . We already know about brain and covered melanoma before the question was asked but what about other common cancers ? Ovarian , breast , prostrate , colon ?

Preclinical evidence: as long as it does no harm to try a particular dietary recommendation, then I lean that way. For example, lowering blood sugar and insulin with keto diet and exogenous ketones for cancer.

Tremendous video. This is THE best description of why not ALL cancers respond well to the Ketogenic diet BUT great that even if other treatment is needed, the diet could provide a measure of quality of life. I live on the ketogenic diet so either way I am doing it!

Hx colon ca. Decided to cover my bases. Had conventional treatment (wish I knew about ketones then!) but, when I heard about the metabolic paradigm of cancer I embraced that too. Currently, disease free but will continue to follow a keto/carnivore way of eating as well as conventional treatment. Will also look further into this research. Thanks so much for presenting it.

@@weshendrikx9754 “No evidence of disease “ for the colon cancer; developed an adenocarcinoma in my lung which was surgically removed. It is my thinking that the lung Ca had its etiology in the traditional chemo/radiation treatment. I will never know for sure!! No follow up traditional treatment was suggested and, if it were, I would decline. I continue to maintain ketosis with some fasting and feel really well!! Thanks for asking.

@@dianelakata1308 So glad you answered. I'm in 4th stage invasive globular carcinoma, but I have had this for 15 years now. Diet and stress reduction were the most important things I focused on. Had much success at the beginning. My husband's illnesses and death threw me off my regimen, and my cancer came back and grew more rapidly after that.

@@dianelakata1308 Wow--good to hear that! I had a non cancerous colon polyp and piece of gut removed in 2010 but have relatives that died of it. So your story resonates with me and I figure if I do get it I will continue on the ketogenic diet also(have been on it for 2 years). So encouraging to hear of your progress. Do you mind me asking what kind of conventional treatment they used? I had heard colon cancer doesn't respond that well to chemotherapy so just wondering what you chose to do.

My mil had Alzheimer’s Disease and we had her on a ketogenic diet for five years. It never caused any weight loss at all. I watched her carefully, as her weight was fine and I wanted her to stay that way. We had her follow keto for health and ketone production only.

I have (had) Mucosal Melanoma with genetics that suggest controlling glucose and insulin are important. I had surgery and three rounds of ipi/nivo before my immune system over reacted and caused colitis. I had been on the keto diet for two years (to address my prediabetes/insulin resistance-success on this front). before a nasal polyp was found to be melanoma on April 1st 2021. I continue a ketogenic diet and added metformin. Currently NED. I haven’t been using exogenous ketones. I am not BRAF positive.

Dear Dr Brett, I am 63 and about to undergo a total hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries. I am already post menopausal for some 15 years but in the literature I have been sent pre-op I have read that the ovary removal can lead to increased lung cancer, coronary artery disease, stroke, (Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynaecology, vol 17, no.2, March/April2010). It suggests that prophylactic removal may result in more deaths from other causes than leaving them in place would risk. I have been keto for some 6 years and feel really well. I do not have family history of particular cancers, I have low/normal blood pressure, normal weight, never smoked. The hysterectomy is for damage incurred during the Keiland forceps delivery of my first child 40 years ago. I would like to ask if I will be able to reduce all of the scary possible increased risks associated with the ovary removal. I like the idea that I will be rid of a few possible seats of malignancy but I still want to die healthy. Please could you advise if possible? Maybe make a vid about these surgical procedures, their impact and steps that we can take to protect ourselves from harms. I am trusting that maintaining keto will help but I am not a doctor. Keep up your excellent work , thank you.x

My wife was diagnosed with MBC two years ago. I told her oncologist we were doing keto for cancer. The oncologist said eat anything you want in reason, diet is not important. My wife had a scan three months later showing regression. I reminded the oncologist we were doing keto. The oncologist now said, diet is very important. Two years in, my wife does not want to eat meat, fish or eggs. Maybe just a bite or two of steak. She's eating some toast and banana, and her latest scans have been terrible. Now we are starting to talk about chemo.

So keto for brain cancer has the best evidence that it may be effective (33m mark).. but Regarding ketone/acetoacetate signaling and renal cell carcinoma/Stauffer and melanoma (BRAF V600e).. Chad Macias talks about how keto may accelerate these (and other) cancer growth in the Sigma Nutrition podcast #169. Also would love to hear an episode on the medical field in general.. Dr. Bret Sher can interview any one of Russ Roberts' (EconTalk) previous guests.. Marty Makary, Azra Raza, Vinay Prasad, etc.. or see Katherine Eban on Peter Attia's the Drive.. or Robert Whitaker on STEM talk!

Why would someone want to take metabolic health advice from someone with a high waist to height ratio? If this woman is metabolically healthy and pregnant, why is this not disclosed? Would a junkie want to take rehab advice from someone with track marks? Wouldn't it be highly important to the discussion?
